Saks Fifth Avenue

...b. Yes. In my opinion, Saks’ zero-tolerance policy for employee theft was reasonable and effective way for internal control. Even though the case presented only one instance when Fierro was caught stealing, the fact that he was caught already tends to lead someone/management or gives the management a notion to believe that he had probably stole before or will probably do it in the future. The zero-tolerance policy might seem harsh, however it has its advantages that are hard to calculate. The policy might have resulted to the termination of a top performing employee but it sent a message to the rest of the employees exactly how serious the company is concerning employee theft. Forging signature and theft are both criminal offenses. Hence, even if the loss that Saks has suffered was relatively trivial/small ($9.85), Fierro should receive appropriate sanctions for his actions for he clearly violated some provisions of the company’s employee handbook. Such policy is also a way to maintain strict code of conduct among Saks’ employees and promote a sound control environment that advocates an honest culture of integrity and ethical values. The policy may not be cost-effective in the short-run since sales may decrease due to Fierro’s termination, as he was a top performing salesman. However, in the long-run, the policy can prevent future losses from employee theft. The long-run savings can outweigh the short-term losses.  In my opinion, the store’s zero-tolerance policy for...

...Ruby J. Burt 1434 Lawrence Avenue Muskegon, Michigan 49442 October 1, 2012 Honorable Timothy G. Hicks Michael E. Kobza Hall of Justice 990 Terrace Avenue Muskegon, Michigan Re: Christopher Lawrence Burt Dear Judge Hicks: My son, Chris, is scheduled to come before you on October 15th for sentencing. I thought that I would like you to know some things about Chris other than what may be in his past records. As it shows, he certainly had some behavior problems that plagued him as a teen and seemed to follow him into adulthood. In spite of the fact that his father and I did what we thought would help him become a productive human being, (stable home, caring parents, discipline, etc.) he still managed to have problems. During those years, we certainly was at our wits end and didn't know how to help him. We have kept in touch with him throughout his life and used every opportunity to encourage him to be a law abiding individual, not only for his good but his family's also. I've always told him that if and when he changed his attitude, we would be the first to know. I do believe that we are seeing that now! When he called to say that he wanted to take care of the problem that was hanging over him, I was elated, but skeptical. However, when he went directly down to sheriff's office on August 13th , and turned himself in, I knew that he had arrived. And you know what I did Judge Hicks?..I visited him at the jail and told him that I was proud of him! Can you imagine...

Toronto

...When I first came to Toronto (which is the southernmost city in Canada) from Middle East I found it quite different than my home country. As it was an entirely new place for me, which had to resemblance to Middle East it was quite difficult for me to roam around in the city. However, soon I realized that although there are a number of sites that one could visit in the world, but Toronto is one of the fastest, busiest, and advanced multicultural cities of the world. Apart from being Canada’s capital city, Toronto is the largest and well populated city in Canada. It is the ideal city for tourists to visit as over here one could find various quality shopping sites. All around Toronto, there are a number of dissimilar shopping malls. In the Ontario area of the city the Square mall is the biggest mall in which one could find drug stores, departmental stores, hobbies and crafts, children’s fashion stores, banks, automotive services and numerous other things. Apart from the Eaton centre mall there are several other malls like Yorkdale Shopping Centre, Centerpoint Mall, Cedarbrae Mall etc. If one plans to visit any one mall out of those mentioned above then it would surely keep him/her engaged for the whole day in discovering different things in that mall. For Toronto the tourist attractions are the key preeminence, which keeps it rich and fast. As far as places are concerned, there are a number of places that you could visit like the water kingdom where tourists could enjoy numerous...

Fifth Avenue Analysis

...The architectural critic Montgomery Schulyer wrote about the new St. Thomas as ‘one of the chief architectural ornaments of New York’. The ornament and detail within the church quickly made it into a recognizable monument in Manhattan. America springs to action during the spring of 1917 with resolute and celebratory emotion, while anticipating victory. The American, British, and French flags ran sequentially along the wide bustling street of Frederick Childe Hassam’s painted Allies Day, May, 1917. The painting is of an impressionistic style, which confronts the viewer with insistent images of identity and nationalism. Fifth Avenue thus became known as the Avenue of the Allies. The part of Fifth Avenue that was selected for the painting is...

Kissing was a favorite pose encouraged by media photographers of service personnel during the war, but Eisenstaedt was photographing a spontaneous event that occurred in Times Square as the announcement of the end of the war on Japan was made by U.S. President Harry S. Truman at seven o'clock. Similar jubilation spread quickly with the news. Because Eisenstaedt was photographing rapidly changing events during the celebrations he did not have an opportunity to get the names and details. The photograph does not clearly show the faces of either person involved in this embrace and several people have claimed to be the subjects. The photograph was shot just south of 45th Street looking north from a location where Broadway and Seventh Avenue converge. Soon afterward, throngs of people crowded into the square and it became a sea of...

Various Investment Avenues

...INTRODUCTION Different investment avenues are available to investors. Mutual funds also offer good investment opportunities to the investors. Like all investments, they also carry certain risks. The investors should compare the risks and expected yields after adjustment of tax on various instruments while taking investment decisions. The investors may seek advice from experts and consultants including agents and distributors of mutual funds schemes while making investment decisions. Types of investor In continuation of the lessons I’ve learned from Rich Dad Poor Dad author, Robert Kiyosaki, I will discuss today what he called “Types of Investors.” According to him, there are two main types of investors: Average Investors and Professional Investors. Average investors - buy packaged securities such as mutual funds, treasury bills, or real-estate-investment trusts. Professional investors - are more aggressive—they create investment opportunities or get in on the ground floor of new offerings, build businesses and marketing networks, assemble groups of financiers to fund deals too large for them to undertake alone, and pick the companies with the most promise for initial public offerings of stock. INVESTMENT AVENUES IN INDIA There are a large number of investment instruments available today. To make our lives easier we would classify or group them under 4 main types of investment avenues. We shall name and briefly describe them. ...
