Bach was born in Germany on March 21, 1685 into a family of many musicians that went way back in his family. Johann Ambrosius Bach and Elizabeth Lammerhirt Bach were the names of Johann Sebastian’s parents. During Bach’s childhood his father is the one who taught him how to play the violin. Along with playing the violin Bach could also sing very well. Bach and his family were Lutheran and whenever they went to their church Bach would sing in the church choir. Sadly, Bach’s parents passed away within a year of each other, shortly before Bach’s tenth birthday. Michael’s, Bach went on to play as an organist. Bach got the organist job at the St. Boniface church in Arnstadt Germany. While working as an organist Bach “got into trouble on several occasions, once for fighting with a fellow musician and once for being caught entertaining a "strange maiden" in the balcony while he was practicing the organ” (Johann Sebastian Bach Biography). Although Bach did get in trouble, while working as an organist he had time to perfect his music and technique. A few years later Bach decided to take a leave and said he would be gone for only a month. When he left from the church “he traveled to Lübeck to hear famed organist Dietrich Buxtehude and extended his stay without informing anyone back in Arnstadt” (Johann Sebastian Bach). Shockingly Bach stayed another four months before returning to Arnstadt. Finally Bach left Lubeck and went back to his job as an organist at St. Boniface. When Bach returned he started writing long preludes which the people did not like so he then started making them short.
