Background Investigation and Reference Checking Background Investigation and reference checking are needed in order to verify the accuracy of the information that has been provided by a candidate on their resumes. Although most of the time the candidates lie about their qualifications, achievements and hiding negative information from future employers. According to studies it show that one third of the candidates practise such fraudulent activities. Unfortunately, many employers who conduct the hiring, does not check if the references are valid, which could create problems within an organization. Since there has been major incidents regarding false information, about 90% of Canadian organizations check or hires an external company to check the references of a candidate. It costs a small amount of money to the organizations to check the validity of the information, but it is an investment against possible long and money consuming trials. The candidates information has to be verified like criminal record check, educational qualifications, verification of previous employment and many more.
Final Steps in Selection
The final steps in selection consists of a supervisory interview and a realistic job interview, the hiring decision and the candidate notification. The supervisiory interview is designed for the top 3 candidates who will meet with the supervisior. Since a supervisior has the sufficient technical aspect of the job and is the most qualified to assess the applicants job knowledge and skills and can answer the questions from the candidate. Also when the applicant takes the job the supervisor is responsible of the new employees success. A realistic job interview should be implemented during the supervisory interview to create a realistic information about the job demands and the organizations expectations. The 2nd step of the final steps is the hiring decision
