Tesco profits fall as supermarket pulls out of US article –
Tesco as we know it by in the UK had stores in the US with the name “Fresh and Easy” who are a chain of grocery stores in the US owned by Tesco. Fresh and easy is Private Limited Company and expanded into the US in 2007. They were already making a loss in 2009 of £142m, Tesco have decided because they are making a significant loss from the US stores that they are going to pull out. Tesco have said that the UK is the best market for them.
Tesco had a lot of Competitors in the US as they do in the UK including, Safeway, Target, Wal-Mart, Walgreen’s etc. These are all very popular stores in America, Fresh and easy was obviously just not one of them.
This is going to have a large effect on the Stakeholders of the business; Employees: Fresh and easy employed over 50,000 people which is a massive amount, it may be difficult for some to find another job and it will be difficult for families where there is only one job supporting the family. Because the number is so large it will have effect on the countries unemployment number. Customers: It will affect the customers because for those who only had a Fresh and easy as their local store it will mean that they will have to commute further so they will have to purchase more fuel to be able to commute to their next nearest store.
It will also have an effect on the Shareholders of the business, those who invested a lot of shares into the business will have lost everything after this which is great news for them.
There could be many reasons why they did not make a profit, for example; Marketing: it is possible that their marketing department did not do a good enough job such as advertising and research to attract customers in. Maybe they could not compete with the low prices of their competitors. Decision Making: The

Globalization

...Globalization in Business Donovan Chase PHL/320 12/22/2014 Bridget Peaco Globalization in Business Is globalization good or bad for your business? (1, premise) Globalization is viewed as either good or bad depending on your particular situation. For example, if you are an emerging growth industry, globalization represents a significant opportunity to access broader geographic markets, to accelerate growth and expand your business. (1, conclusion) However, if your business is an industry that has imploded due to the onslaught of global competition, or you have suffered a job loss due to downsizing or outsourcing you probably have a very negative view on globalization being good for business. Is Globalization “Good” Before we can decide what is good we need to have a definition of “good” as it relates to our topic. According to "Merriam Webster" (2014), Good is defined as something that is right or good. Something that has economic utility or satisfies an economic want. An example of good in the way we are defining it is the difference between good and bad. I personally feel that globalization is not good for the business of America. (2, premises) Globalization takes jobs away from people in the United States which raises the unemployment rate. (2, conclusion) Therefore, negatively impacting our economy. Workers can often be forced into accepting worsening...

Soy-Dri

...Should youth 11 years old and younger be exposed to competition, i,e, scoring? Competition can be good for children. It can help children develop healthy attitudes about winning and losing. Children are not born with the natural urge to compete. This is a learned skill and behavior. Competition usually starts at about five years old. Competition can encourage growth and push a child to excel. Competition can also be very rough for a young child. There must always be a winner and a loser, but young children sometimes just can’t deal with losing. The question is, can a young child handle defeat and at what point do you no how much a child can take? Losing is a serious business, especially for a child who really wants to win. Winning, losing, or playing against others has little or no meaning for children under the age of seven. They are more concerned about the rules of the game and how the games are played. They often break the rules, because they can’t remember .By the age of eight, children can follow rules and understand what it really means to win or lose. In 2001, a survey was conducted by Sports Illustrated for kids. The survey found that seventy percent of children quit organized sports by the tender age of thirteen. They said that they were no longer having fun. Often this happens because referees, coaches, and parents are continued more caught up in the competition than the children. The focus should not primarily be on winning or...

Moody, Sales Manager, Easy To Be Green To: Construction Manager, Greenfield Community College Date: 3 August 2015 Ref: Change in location of Venting Apparatus Sir and/or Ma’am, Here at Easy to Be Green, we pride ourselves on being the leader in installing energy efficient heating, cooling, and insulation systems. And since these systems are custom designed to meet you, the customer’s request, it involves a variety of Sub-contractors. And with this in mind there are time limits as to when we can make changes in the design. This morning one of my sales team, Chris, came to me with this problem, and I am writing to you so I can explain the reason as to why we will be unable to change the location of the venting apparatus, that you have requested. I understand that you had written to Chris requesting this change to accommodate a change in the campus’s overall design plan. There are two reasons as to why this Change cannot be accomplished; 1. There is a zoning restriction on this kind of Vent. I do understand that it is not widely enforced, but I feel as one of the leaders in this industry that it would not be beneficial for us to disregard this restriction. 2. Your request has come in late and there is only 1 month left before installation of the vents. This late addition was quoted to add $5000 dollars to the price of the contract. It is not practical for us to deviate from the written agreement. And therefore...

Greasy Lake Analysis

...“Greasy Lake” – Story Analysis “Greasy Lake” was published in 1985 along with other stories from the author, T. Corahessan Boyle. The story is a gripping tale of three teen boys ‘living on the edge’, in which the author presents himself and his friends as a group of dangerous individuals. One would think that the narrator has truth in his words, but all events in the story point to the contrary. T. Corahessan Boyle, or T. C. Boyle for short, is an unreliable narrator. The truth of this story is not in the text, but in the underlying meanings and subliminal nuances. This hidden reality really helps the reader make a direct judgment of the characters. After reading between the lines, one quickly finds out who the characters are, but more importantly, who they are not. Every 19 year old boy wants to be tough. Reputation is everything to a teenager and toughness is the cornerstone of that reputation. Even though most boys at 19 are far from being truly tough, they sure do play the part. “Greasy Lake” outlines the adventure of three wanna’ be tough dudes. Throughout the story the author, also the narrator, leaves hints for the reader to help determine the characters background. He refers to them as ‘mistakes’ but after a while the reader realizes that the one sole mistake was the boys fronting to be tough in the first place. The second line of the story immediately triggers a judgment call for the reader. The narrator comes outright and says, “We were all dangerous characters...

...me, the biggest problem is understands the lecture. If I can’t understand the lecture, then I won’t get a good grade. So I have to use one semester to fix it. When I faced this problem, first I should do is analysis, then find good solutions. Preview and review the class are the two best way to help me to solve this problem, even though it will cost some free time. Firstly, I will explain that why I meet this problem. As an international student, study by second language is too difficult, I can not understand the class clearly. For example the chemistry class, there have huge vocabulary in that class which I don’t know. So I couldn’t understand the lecture and I got a bad grade on the exam. And other class also has this problem. So it bring me a lot of trouble, I can’t finish my homework and getting a bad grade. Secondly, the problem has two worst parts, and one of them is I can not finish the homework. First, if I can not finish the homework, I can not study the knowledge of this course clearly. For instance, the homework includes a lot of main points of the class. If I can’t finish the homework, I won’t pick up the main points. Second, if I can not finish the homework, I will have some negative feeling of this class. For example, if I can’t finish my homework, I feel this class is too hard to study and, to get a good grade. So I will dislike this class. Thirdly, the other worst part is I can not get a good grade. First, if I don’t get a good grade, my GPA will reduce...

Bad Practices

...Bad Practices I wish I could say yes to this question. The sad truth is that I don’t have a big choice of retailers for the amount of money that I make. Sadly, one of the biggest retailers that I shop at is Walmart. From the lesson presentation, I was completely horrified at how much of the products that are produced for Walmart come from sweat shops. Of course I would love to be able to say I will not shop at Walmart again, but there are no alternatives that provide the pricing that is provided there. I think however, it would be beneficial for the companies to have accountability for their overseas factories. I know this would inevitably drive up the prices of the products being produced, but at least the people who are creating these goods would not have to deal with the harsh conditions of these plants. There are some products that I don’t buy from Walmart, such as jeans, because I can purchase them at a local retailer for a couple of dollars more. This particular company gets their merchandise from within the United States and the working conditions of those plants are safe and the people are not over worked. So, in a way I have already begun to switch my shopping locations. True, I just can’t get away from Walmart, but I am trying to be more conscience of what I buy and I really try to do as much research as I can on a given company. I have to mention that Walmart is not the only company that goes about getting their goods from overseas sweat shops though. I used...
