Over ten thousand years ago, men in the Stone Age discovered a new way of life. Bamber Gascoigne’s article from www.historyworld.net, “The Neolithic Revolution,” refers that the most significant single development in human history was when mankind discovered easier ways to provide for his family. According to many paleohistorians and historians, the most revolutionary event occurred when man went from hunter-gatherers, to farmers and domesticators. This drastic change affected the people politically, geographically, socially, and economically. In the beginning of time, people of the land roamed anywhere they could find food and water. Before the people discovered the cultivation of crops, the land was not being used and was not legally owned by any single tribe. The geographical change in history began with the forest land. It was expanded and claimed as agricultural land for farming and grazing. They learned that fertile land was appropriate to successfully grow crops. The people were used to being nomads, not having a steady home. Once they became educated farmers, they learned to settle on land. Living in the same spot aided them in planting crops and keeping a regular farming schedule. By staying in a single area, the people were able to raise animals, allowing them to travel by horses and wagons. Survival was more stable because they could rely on the nearby rivers for water. Animal hide, bricks, and mud were utilized for the people to construct a safe shelter. They used their natural resources to create homemade tools. In the beginning establishment, mankind had to hunt animals, plants, and insects for their family to survive. Once the hunter-gatherers learned to raise animals themselves and have them multiply, life became easier. Agriculture was all tribes’ main source of economy. Other people from other tribes wanted to begin trading animals and food to feed their own families. Trade and commerce was a great factor of economy also. This change was an economical advancement. According to the webpage “History for Kids” from www.historyforkids.net, “Agriculture provided a reliable food source. In fact, agriculture allowed farmers to grow more food than they needed. This extra amount could be traded for other resources the farmers needed or wanted.” Once the societies grew, so did its necessities.
