In today’s society the economy is like a roller coaster for the United State of America. This has a lot to do with politics or the lack of. Our stock market has been dropping over the past few days and weeks on hand. This is due to the republicans not wanting to meet our president halfway by playing politics with the people it is supposed to govern. As we all know the United States is a republican state. Our family values as a whole has gotten out of control by the way we now define marriage. And it is harder for students graduating from High School to enter into college. This is in part due to cut backs with the spending for students who depend on government grants and loans (as the loans yield a high percentage for return). This society is broken and it has been for a while, before Obama became President.

If I was to do business in the United States I would be aware of social media such as Facebook, radio and television. This is one platform that I will utilize for my company when trying to promote my business as well as the internet such as paying for pop-up blockers ads. This is due to most households have a least one computer or laptop; if not someone in the household has access to one. Facebook is used to promote events and networking for different organizations. This will give me the opportunity to network in a bigger pool versus newspapers or magazines.

I would use the AUTHORITATIVE (Visionary) style because this give me the opportunity to state what direction I want to take the company in as well as what my long-term goals and vision are. But taking an authoritative approach I can encourage my employees on their performance, sit in when needed, delegate what needs to be done and how, and promote from within due to what I have observed. When dealing with the country now, you need someone who is not afraid to take control and evolve on their platform.

To overcome the barriers of communication I would have a diverse population for my employees. This is to ensure that I can keep pace in my industry when dealing with other cultures and countries. That is why the saying, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do” is so true. Meaning, I cannot send a woman to represent my company to promote business with China because she is not a man. And when doing business with China you must appear to be a type of father figure and look them in the eye when speaking. Therefore, I would do as they are custom to when trying to do business with China. Regardless of the sector in which you operate – finance, technology, or computers and consumer electronics –global cultural differences will directly impact on you and the profitability of your business (WBC, 2013)

American Understand About Vietnam Culture

...1 AMERICANS DOING BUSINESS IN VIETNAM: COMMUNICATION DIFFERENCES by Katrine Syppli Kohl COM 9656: International Business Communication Fall 2007 This paper focuses on differences that are likely to cause problems for U.S. American managers operating in Vietnam. At first, Hofstede’s cultural dimensions of power distance, individualism, and longterm orientation are used to pinpoint key differences in Vietnamese and American business culture (Hofstede, 2001). Second, stable and transitional concepts of culture are delineated as they apply to the topic. Finally, areas of communication are discussed that benefit from special attention because of differences between Vietnamese and American culture. Value Dimensions Hofstede’s original cultural dimensions were power distance (PDI), individualism (IDV), masculinity (MAS), and uncertainty avoidance (UAI); later, long-term orientation (LTO) was added as a fifth dimension (2001). When comparing the United States with Vietnam, the three dimensions of power distance, individualism, and long-term orientation differ most significantly (see Figure 1). Figure 1. Comparison of value orientations: United States versus Vietnam (ITIM International, 2003). Power-distance according to Adler and Gundersen (2008) “reflects the extend to which less powerful members of organizations accept an unequal distribution of power” (p. 54). In countries such as Vietnam where high power-distance are paired with a low uncertainty avoidance, employees view their ...
