An ergogenic aid is any substance or phenomenon that enhances performance. An ergo lytic agent is one that has a detrimental effect on performance. The ergogenic aid I would like to talk about is amino acids. Amino acids have been proposed to have special ergogenic properties. L-tryptophan, an essential amino acid, has been proposed to increase aerobic endurance performance through its effects on the CNS, acting as an analgesic and delaying fatigue (Kenney).
For my workouts I take a supplement called amino energy. It is made by optimum nutrition. Its slogan is “Amino Acid Powder for Increased Energy. Train Longer and Harder with Intense Energy and Focus.” I have been using it on and off for a few years now. It has an amino blend of the following: * Micronized Taurine, Micronized L-Glutamine, Micronized L-Arginine, Micronized L-Leucine, CarnoSyn® Beta-Alanine, Micronized Citrulline, Micronized L-Isoleucine, Micronized L-Valine, Micronized L-Tyrosine, Micronized L-Histidine, Micronzed L-Lysine, Micronized L-Phenylalanine, Micronzed L-Threonine, Micronized L-Methionine.
Of these, the three amino acids that we are concerned about are the valine, Leucine, and the isoleucine. These are our BCAA’s. Branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) have been postulated to work in combination with L-tryptophan to delay fatigue, primarily through CNS mechanisms. I can feel the difference between my motivation and longevity of my workouts when I take this product. It is doing everything that the book describes that it should do. Which is theoretically, increasing the BCAA would reduce the ratio and delay the onset of fatigue. I typically do not do a lot of running cardio such has treadmill, cycling, or Stairmaster, but I have used this when I boxed during college. During that time I was also able to train for longer periods of time. I did not experience any shortness of breath or over

Monster Amino 8: 1 BCAA Ratio

...Monster Amino is an ultra-concentrated BCAA formula that delivers an 8:1:1 ratio of Leucine to Isoleucine to Valine. Recent university research shows that Leucine enriched beverages consumed with exercise synergistically activate and prolong activity of the mTOR signaling pathway, which increases muscle anabolic potential (muscle growth). The mTOR pathway is the "trigger" that signals the very genesis of muscle protein synthesis. Monster Amino is able to achieve the anabolic 8:1:1 BCAA ratio by combining PepForm Leucine Peptides, and free-form L-Leucine, L-Isoleucine and L-Valine to help promote maximum muscle-building performance. Monster Amino offers full label transparency - No proprietary blends. With Monster Amino, you know exactly how much of each ingredient you are receiving per serving....

Amino Acids and How They Relate to Athletics ~Sci/241

...Acids and How They Relate to Athletics SCI/241~Nutrition July 8, 2010 Amino acids serve in many different ways in an athlete body. Typically amino acids were prescribed many years ago known as a “branched-chain amino acids (BCAA)” (Weider, 2003), characterized as supplement for body building. Muscles are generally made up of amino acids, athletes are encouraged to supplement with the loss. Another characteristic of BCAA is to generate energy. Amino acids taken before a workout will strengthen the athlete muscles. The intake of protein is encouraged before a workout also. Boost in the brain of an athlete mental capacity is consumed with the amino acids before a work out. However, an athlete must mentally stable their mind to do a tedious workout. Your immune system must functions at a healthy status at all times, in order to be an athlete. This is why amino acids help promote the building of a strong immune system. Sometimes the lack of a nutrient in the body can have an effect on the brain. Taking precautions is recommended to insure that supplemental intake of BCAA may not cause any problems to the brain; one should consult a physician before taking BCAA. ...Somanabolic Supplementation By: Kyle Leon Being a supplement sponsored athlete you might think I would be promoting supplements and making claims like all of the other supplement sponsored athletes get paid to do. Well, that’s not the case at all. I will cut through all the crap and tell it like it is. In fact, I only signed a contract with Blue Star Nutraceuticals with the mutual understanding that I will only talk about products that I have actually used with measurable results. If I take something and it does nothing, that’s exactly what I’ll say. I don’t want anyone to go through the frustrating cycle of wasting money on crap like I did. If the owner of Blue Star wasn’t the most straight up CEO in the industry with the quality of his products being the most important thing to him, I wouldn’t have signed because of how I feel about supplement companies. I’ll say this- It takes a hell of a confident, stand up guy to sign me to a contract knowing where I stand with my brutal honesty about the industry. Without further ado, here is my straight talking report for you. Enjoy, and make use of it. Supplements are used by millions of people every year in the hopes of losing fat, building muscle and improving overall health. For our purpose, we will be talking about supplements that are being marketed to guys looking to build lean muscle mass. Supplements are a multi-billion dollar industry that is highly unregulated in comparison to other industries....

...™ ™ ® ® ® ® ™ www.bodybuilding.com/shortcut2shred ™ ® ™ ® ™ WORKOUT PROGRAM Cardio acceleration is critical to Shortcut to Shred. It will fire up your fat-burning furnace like nothing else. Cardio acceleration is a technique that combines high-intensity cardio and resistance training into one fast-paced workout. Instead of resting between your lifts, you will do cardio between every single set. Simply put, you’ll lift one set of a prescribed exercise, such as bench press, and then immediately follow it with one minute of cardio. Cardio effectively replaces your rest periods. Now, I don’t mean you have to rack the barbell, run across the gym, and jump on a treadmill or stationary bike. Your cardio acceleration exercises can be as simple as running in place next to the bench. You can also jump rope, perform dumbbell cleans, step-ups, or any combination of full-body exercises. Whatever you do, the point is to move for an entire minute. Between each set, you’ll do one minute of a cardio acceleration exercise. If you’re new to fitness and find that one minute is too long, you can reduce the time to 30 seconds, or go at a slower pace. The goal is to gradually increase the time you spend doing high-intensity cardio. You want to keep each cardio acceleration minute as intense and demanding as possible. Prprotein and Amino Acid Supplementation in Sports

...The popularity of increasing the “performance-enhancing” supplements, Protein and amino acids, has flourished among all athletes. This increase is attributed to the belief by many of the athletes that it provides endurance, strength and speed enhancement. Amino Acids (AA) enhanced physical feats, improved energy and recovery sooner from fatigue. The three vital Amino Acids which were given a high focal point among athletes are leucine, isoleucine, and valine referred to as BCAA’s or branched-chain amino acids, which are generally given as a supplement to athletes. Those same BCAA’s are essential amino acids that can be employed in skeletal muscles as a source of energy (Nemet & Eliakim, 2007). It was shown in studies, while exercising, there was a larger breaking down of proteins to meet the increasing energy needs of the skeletal muscles. With long-lasting exercise the BCAA’s in the blood decline promoting tryptophan’s uptake across the blood-brain barrier which could increase serotonin formation. This might cause a sedated feeling in the brain, which would cause fatigue in the athlete. It was also suggested that Amino Acids supplements would increase the athlete’s stamina as the breakdown of the proteins and BCAA’s decline during exercise are slowed down (Nemet & Eliakim, 2007). The AA supplementation was found to improve recovery. Forms of muscle damage have been caused by exercise which indicators include increases in creatine kinase (CK) and Lactate Dehydrogenase...

Protein Article Research

...A person cannot survive without amino acids in their diet, which is why they are so important. They perform many metabolic functions that are vital to the body, and are the reason amino acids are so important for athletes. The usual intake of amino acids comes from foods like seafood, meat, and legumes. Some people, mainly athletes will use an amino acid supplement to further their intake. The amount intake of amino acids for a regular person is 1.2 grams whereas for an athlete or body builder, it is approximately 2.2 grams. Amino acids help with the building of muscles. Branch chain amino acids (BCAA) can help gain muscle tissue which in turn helps build bigger muscles. Amino acids also help in the building of stamina. Cross country runners for instance take a high amount of amino acids to prevent damage to muscle tissue since it is an extremely strenuous activity. Recovering from fatigue quicker by the intake of amino acids is another reason athletics take them. Amino acids actually slow the production of lactic acid, which causes fatigue. Besides physically fatigue, amino acids also help with mental fatigue. Serotonin in the brain can actually make a person lose willpower. When taking amino acids, it slows the production of serotonin. These are the many reasons why it is important for an athlete to take almost doubled the amount of amino acids of a non-athletic person. Fitness Builds Health. (2007). Resistance Training Component

...a) RESISTANCE TRAINING COMPONENT (1) Our client wanted to achieve both strength gains in the squat exercise and hypertrophy gains of their legs our client’s routine had to reflect both aspects of these different training techniques. Which is why we decided to break up the routine into two separate days with one focusing on strength and the other focusing on hypertrophy. Our program 1 was likely to achieve strength due to the number of sets, intensities and repetitions we prescribed. Rhea et al.1 and Marshall et al.2 concluded from a study that the optimal number of sets for trained individuals (those who had been regularly lifting weights for over a year) was 4 to help maximal gains in strength development. Rhea et al. also concluded that the best weights to elicit strength gain was around 80% of 1RM, with a repetition count of 4-6, which we prescribed at 5 repetitions. We allowed 3min rest intervals between sets and the beginning of new exercises to help recovery of the muscle and attain greater strength gains3. (2) Program 2 was this time designed to focus on hypertrophy of the client’s legs, the programs number of repetitions, sets, intensity, exercise selection and rest intervals reflected this. A meta-analysis of hypertrophy by Scheonfeld4 concluded that maximal hypertrophy gains can be achieved using at least 60% of 1RM, for 8-12 repetitions for 4 sets helping to achieve the basic principle of hypertrophy of higher volume, multiple set protocols...

Essay On Whey Protein

...Whey protein Whey protein is basically the protein contained in whey, the watery portion of milk generated as a result of producing cheese. Once considered a waste by-product, dairy companies now understand and recognize its benefits, resulting into its concentration and purification. Being an abundant source of branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs), it is used to stimulate protein synthesis. It includes these three amino acids: leucine, isoleucine, and valine. These three have been proven to be just what you need for muscle growth, as well as for energy when working out. What makes whey protein greater than other kinds of protein is its digestion rate as it can pretty much digest very quickly. In less than 30 minutes, its aminos can be absorbed by the muscles...

Maple Syrup Disease

...Maple Syrup Urine Disorder AaSHAE Singletary Maple Syrup Urine Disease (MSUD), a potentially life threatening and rare disorder, affects 1 in every 180,000 babies born annually. Caused by the inability to metabolize the amino acids leucine (leu), isoleucine, and valine in protein, the disease produces a maple syrup smell in the urine of diagnosed persons; thus, earning its name. (The smell is produced due to the build up of these chemicals in the blood) First discovered in 1954, by John Menkes, this recessive trait is produced by a gene defect passed down through various families. It consists of a classic form and several less common forms each varying in its strength and features. Although they differ, all forms of the disorder can be caused by mutations in any of the 6 genes used to build the branched-chain alpha-ketoacid dehydrogenase (BCKDHA) of Chromosome 19. Babies with MSUD often appear normal at birth but within 3-4 days can display other symptoms such as food avoidance, vomiting and fussiness. If left untreated, seizures occur and the baby will naturally slip into a coma shortly ending in death. Treatment of this disorder is managed by a strict diet free of the three harmful amino acids discussed earlier and must be performed early enough to avoid brain damage. Baby formula with these restrictions are available but as the child grows into adolescence, they must always monitor their diets, especially paying attention to avoidance of high proteins such as...

Vitamin and minerals IV. How many vegetarian are in the US V. Fames people History The term "vegetarian" was coined by the British Vegetarian Society in the mid-1800. (The Latin root of the word refers to the source of life.) However, vegetarianism itself dates back to a time before recorded history. Many anthropologists believe that most early humans ate mainly plant foods, being more like gatherers than hunters. This view is supported by the fact that the human digestive system resembles that of other plant-eaters rather than that of meat-eaters. The early "human as plant-eater" view is also supported by the fact that humans on meat-based diets contract receive major health problems such as heart disease and cancer much more frequently than people eating vegetarian diets. The Greek mathematician Pythagoras was a vegetarian, and vegetarians were often called Pythagoreans until a different word was created. You’ll ward off disease. Vegetarian diets are more healthful than the average American diet, particularly in preventing, treating or reversing heart disease and reducing the risk of cancer. You’ll keep your weight down. The standard American diet high in saturated fats and processed foods and low in plant-based foods and complex carbohydrates is making us...
