...Communication To Family Face-To-Face We regret to inform you that your family member is among 33 workers currently trapped due to cave-in. We want you to know that as we speak, we have rescue workers on site doing everything possible to bring every worker to safety as soon as possible. We will keep you informed as new information develops. • I this statement I don’t wont to give too much information about the events that possibly lead to the collapse because I don’t want to cause any more sorrow or panic than necessary • It is wise to keep the family informed of any developing information because it is best they here it from you instead of miss-information from the news. • Until the whereabouts of the miners have been confirmed, it is best to not mention that part to the family. Communication To The Company Via Meeting We have just been informed of a cave-in trapping 33 miners at one of our Northern Chile copper mining location. Rescuers are drilling holes to try and locate the works. But for now there has been no confirmation as to whether the 33 miners have survived the cave-in. They are approximately 300 meters down and there is limited food, oxygen and water. So rescuers are working around the clock. We have also learned that doing the rescue there was a second cave-in Saturday causing a delay in rescue efforts for several hours. We ask that you reframe from sharing any information with anyone outside the company, especially the media. It is important that we...

With 33 of your friends and colleagues now trapped after a major cave in. The company is working meticulously with rescue workers and government officials who were notified immediately following the accident to find and save the trapped employees. As of this moment, we have no official verification as to how much amenities the workers have in the way of water, food, ad breathable air due to being trapped at a depth of over 300 meters news coming to us has been slow but we are working as diligently as we can. This rescue mission will be like no other in the history of mining we are coordinating with many outside ventures and will be using the state of the art technology to do all we can to bring our friends home to their loving families. This will be a time consuming process drilling holes into the caved in mine in order to properly locate trapped miners. A second cave-in on Saturday postponed our aid efforts for hours. Our reputation has come into question regarding the safety practices of our mines and organization from past events, we as a company obey all safety measure practices and rules set forth by both the Federation of Chilean Mining Workers (FMC)...

Bcom/275 Week 4 Audiance Paper

...DeBrae Jones Week 4 Individual Assignment Knowing Your Audience Paper and Communication Release BCOM/275 Austin Matthews Introduction In 2010, 33 miners were trapped in a copper mine for a little over two months. The incident was covered through every world media outlet from televised news broadcast, radio stations, websites, to conventional newspapers. “On Aug. 5, 2010, a gold and copper mine near the northern city of Copiapó, Chile caved in, trapping 33 miners in a chamber about 2,300 feet below the surface. For 17 days, there was no word on their fate. As the days passed, Chileans grew increasingly skeptical that any of the miners had survived — let alone all of them. But when a small bore hole reached the miners’ refuge, they sent up a message telling rescuers they were still alive” (New York Times 2011, October 12). The method in which each news source or media outlet chose to cover and convey the information; can and will determine how the reader, viewer, or listener will translate the received information. Understanding the Audience When considering the different roles and people of the audience when transferring information in an informative method; we must begin to try and understand human emotion, religious beliefs/concepts and theories, ethnicity, region, and a host of other components that are key when appealing to the target audience. Knowing who the people are that the message is being conveyed to will ensure the effectiveness and audience appeal...

Communication

...Communication Process Kathy Kirsch BCOM/275 October 17, 2011 Donald M. Marrin The high cost of communication or the lack of, as the case maybe. When a veteran lead truck driver, of 30-plus years, faces a tour manager who has no idea of the transportation logistics of time travel for tractor trailers, the results are explosive as well as expensive. Concert tours consist of many elements that if there is just one hiccup, the domino effect cascades like a waterfall. The transportation logistics is just one piece of many within the structure. Traveling from point A to point B, safely, and on time, is the goal of the transportation element. When just one truck is late with equipment the domino effect starts, costing into the thousands of dollars. Herein sets the scene for lack of communication between sender, the lead truck driver and receiver, the tour manager. From Portland, Oregon, to Chico, California, it is 490 miles, nine hours of driving. That is an average speed of 54.4 miles per hour for nine hours non-stop. That is on flat, straight land. Between Portland and Chico, there are two mountain ranges to cross with an elevation of six to seven thousand feet. If a semi is loaded heavy, traveling speeds up the inclines can get down to 25 to 30 mph. There goes the average traveling speed needed to reach destination within that nine hours. Time needed would be 11 hours of driving for the semi. Another consideration that the speed limit throughout California...

Con-Side of Debate

...Con-Side of Debate Summary John Jones BCOM/275 10/19/14 Lynda Sohl Con-side of Team “A” Debate The first week of our discussion topic, there were many different and valuable point of views that were expressed. This week we were to only look at the Con-side of the discussion and see what the general consensus of our topic was. As a team we compared the facts of how bad war really is. War can cause bitterness and hatred to one another, but also divide people socially and economically. Being that this is the Con-side discussion our team made great points and really made war look the way it should, evil, miserable, and disgusting. In our pro-side discussion we mentioned that war brought certain things to a country such as money, power, and freedom. When a war is started certain things need to fall in place to maintain economic stability, the first being that the overall population stands behind you. This not only generates enough financial and political prowesses, but establishes the strength of the overall country. We have compared a few countries to one another and America is by far the greatest at achieving this goal of “Country Support”. On the other hand in this week’s discussion war can also be the demise of a country. For example when Nazi Germany seemed to expand across Europe they spread propaganda and fear in their own country. This caused their money to only go to military purposes...

Article Rebuttal

...Article Rebuttal xxxxxxxxxxx BCOM/275 – Business Communications and Critical Thinking March 4, 2013 Joel Maier Article Rebuttal A major question that is asked frequently every year is “Should I get a flu shot?” As the flu season gets closer, people start asking this question and wonder the same thing “Will I still get the flu even if I get the shot?” Can one assume that if you if an immunization is received, that there is no possibility of catching the flu? Because medical insurance is yet another controversial issue, what about those who do not have coverage? Is there an affordable plan for the shot for these individuals and if not will these individuals definitely be plagued by the flu? The Mayo Clinic states that “Flu shots are the most effective way to prevent influenza and its complications” (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2013, pg.1). After reading the entire article, it shows evidence that the shot has been effective anywhere between 60-70% of the time, not 100% of the time. The article is contradicting in stating that the most effective way of fighting the flu is getting the flu shot. What about those individuals who fall into the 30-40% ineffective? Research shows that the flu immunization needs to be administered annually to have the most effective results. One has to question how researchers can be certain what the next string of flu may look like. The Mayo Clinic states that the circulating strains of flu virus can be close but not always an identical match to the...

The sender of the misunderstanding was the Credentialing Department manager. Who was the receiver? The receivers were 4 Network Development Representatives. What was the message? The message was that if a Provider sent in a Sample Claim Form and if the form was missing information, they could confirm with the provider what the correct information was, then insert it into the form themselves. What Channel was used to send the message? The message was sent through an E-Mail message. What was the misunderstanding that occurred? In the E-mail that was sent the manager loosely worded the new exeception to the Sample Claim Form rules. In the explanation she did not site that we would need to provide written confirmation from the Provider that was missing information from their Sample Claim, that states the Network Development team has permission to add the missing information. Since this small detail was not added, when the representatives heard the information, they thought that they could gather the information needed from other documents submitted by the Provider, and insert it into the form without gathering a confirmation from the Provider that the information is correct. When the representatives began a large project, one of the...

Business Fallacies

...Fallacies Assignment BCOM/275 Two wrongs make a right is a type of fallacy when one person does something wrong to another, and the recipient, in turn, does something equally wrong back to the original deliverer. In doing so, the recipient doing the second wrong, believe they are justified in doing so because they are getting even or, making the situation right in their own mind. Obviously, in the end, this doesn't make anything right. Instead you would simply have two wrongs committed, often further escalating a situation. This fallacy happens often in my home. Children are a great example of this. There are numerous times where I will hear the words from one of my children, "Well he/she did (such-and-such) to me first." Hearing this statement I immediately know there have been two wrongs committed. The reasoning behind it is that my child is trying to justify to me why, what they did wrong, was justified. Of course, it was not. Once again, the two wrongs simply caused the two siblings to do something they shouldn’t have to one another and solved nothing. Neither was right. Another example that recently was in the local media was about a school shooting that made national headlines. In this case, the shooter was retaliating against other students that had done him wrong about a month ago. The incident one month ago was not only wrong, but illegal, in this case. Students had grabbed the boy in the bathroom and threatened him with a knife stealing drugs from him. Instead...

Knowing Your Audience

...Week 4 Assignment Knowing Your Audience BCOM/275 Knowing Your Audience August 5, 2010. A little copper mine situated in Chile experienced a cave-in that made thirty three (33) miners to be caught below the ground. The miners having been caught three hundred (300) meters beneath the ground with inadequate, water, oxygen and food, not a soul made out for certain whereby the miners will stay alive. With 4 (four) long days of being caught underground, there still was no suggestion that anyone of the workers were living. There is no precedence of this event in which miners survive being caught below the ground for a long time. (Yang, 2010). Luckily, On this situation, crying was replaced by astonishment as all thirty three (33) workers were found and saved with no loss of lives. No one actually on any occasion looks forward to come across a condition similar to this till it takes place. The company has to inform the family of everyone caught underground. The company has to say something to its workers. These are situations a lot of individuals have no preparations on themselves. This kind of communicating has to be treated carefully by means of the addressees to remember. There will some thoughtfulness to keep in mind specifying the diverse positions and persons in the addressees? This writing shall talk about a few of the possible requirements of the relatives of the workers on getting a communication regarding this event. Logical Falacies

...James Jackson BCOM/275 Week 2 Assignment Logical Fallacies Analysis 1. Personal attack ad hominem. An ad hominem compares the qualities of the person making a claim to the qualities of the actual claim. It is when it is argued that a claim cannot be true because there is a certain lack of quality in the person providing the claim. With this fallacy, it is not the claim itself being analyzed, but the person making the claim. A “personal attack” ad hominem does exactly that – it attacks the person making a claim in order to set them in a negative light. The thought is that a claim cannot possibly be true if the person making the claim is a “bad person”. We see this in the media all of the time with politics. Often pundits in the media will claim that a politician in the opposing party does not have the “moral authority” to claim something because the politician may have been accused of doing something that the media outlet is reporting as morally wrong. A good example of this was early in Barack Obama’s presidency, and even when he was campaigning. During that time some media outlets would dispute a patriotic statement he may have made. They claimed that he could not be patriotic because there was no proof he was even an American citizen since no one had ever seen his birth certificate. This could also be considered a circumstantial ad hominem, as the media was saying that his claimed circumstances refuted his patriotism. 2. Scare tactics. Scare tactics involve...

Demonstrative Communication

...Demonstrative Communication Marsha Cochrane BCom/275 Steven Johnson Demonstrative Communication The old adage which says ‘action speaks louder than words ‘was the first thought which came to my mind as I read the assignment. Communication is the bloodline of relationships, without which the world just would not be. The outcome of our relationships with each other as humans and with our environment is a direct corollary of our means and style of communication. It more often than not what we do and not what we say which bears the most effect with those whom we communicate. Non-verbal communication, demonstrates who we are as such shows how we feel about ourselves and others. It is therefore, critical that the effect of our communication be understood if we are to have meaningful relationships; home , work or play. The Effectiveness of Demonstrative Communication Maya Angelou wrote in her poem titled ‘Phenomenal Woman’; Pretty women wonder where my secret lies. I’m not cute or built to suit a fashion model’s size    But when I start to tell them, They think I’m telling lies. I say, It’s in the reach of my arms, The span of my hips,    The stride of my step,    The curl of my lips.    I’m a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman,    That’s me. Maya is clearly saying that her effectiveness is not in how she speaks but in her non-verbal communication. This is so effective that others are intrigued without a word spoken from her mouth. She goes further to say: ...
