Answer the following questions in 100-200 words each: • What are the different ways in which we evaluate people? One way that we evaluate people is by their personality and appearance. A person’s appearance is the first thing that we see followed by their personality. Although I think that people’s appearances can sometimes lead to stereotyping people. A stereotype is a set of characteristics presumed to be shared by all members of a social category. Stereotyping people is not always correct and you may be surprised once you get to know the person. This is why you will hear people say to try and make a good first impression. Many people will draw their own conclusions based of the first impression of people. We evaluate people by many other ways as well such as gender, culture, and ethnicity. • How do these factors play a role in our expectations of other people? These factors can sometimes prevent us from getting to know a person or family based off the way they look or our preconceived thoughts. We may expect a person to be mean and hateful because they are dressed a certain way when they may be the nicest person you could ever get to know. We may look at a person and they way they are dressed and they way they act and think they may be uneducated while if we spoke with them we may find out that they are in fact very educated. Many people look at me and think I am “stuck up” or a “goody-goody” but once they get to know me they find out that I am one of the friendliest people and far from “stuck up”. • What are the disadvantages of these expectations? Disadvantages of having expectation is that we do not know the person yet and may not get to know the person based off of what we “think” about a person. Also we may think that a particular person would be perfect for a
