“The Best Years of Your Life”
It was a Wednesday morning, and was the first time in months my alarm clock was not set for 6:30 am. The month of June was finally here and as I laid in my bed, I suddenly flashbacked to the past four years of my life. Those cool fall Friday nights cheering from the stands at the football games. The wins and loses celebrated and suffered on the Basketball court and track. Getting ready and dancing the night away at Prom and the numerous amounts of stress from homework and tests, yet it was all worth the while in the end. As my day went on, the time approached to put on my fresh, crisp, orange robe and cap that I have been admiring for weeks. A tear suddenly fell down my face. This was it, tonight at 7:00pm; it was going to be the last time I would ever be with all 280 students of the class of 2011. It was a bittersweet feeling. I knew I had a bright and new future ahead of me, I knew things were never going to be the same, which petrified me.
My tears of uncertainly suddenly changed to tears of joy when my parents called me to come outside because they had a “surprise” for me. A million things were running through my mind however, once I opened my front door I nearly fainted. A brand new 2011 Navy Jeep was sitting in front of me. In an outburst I broke into tears and all I remember was my dad saying, “If you don’t like it, I will certainly keep it.” I was smiling from cheek to cheek. How could I be so lucky to be blessed with the greatest parents a girl could ask for? My night was suddenly turning into a fairytale and I was anxious to see how it was going to be played out. The commencement ceremony was unexpectedly coming to a close, and my fellow classmate and I were still taking in our valedictorian’s inspiring speech. I took a deep breathe in and realized that even though high school was over, and there was a new chapter of

The Best Years of Our Lives

...In the movie, The Best Years of Our Lives is about three soldiers adjusting to life after coming home from the war (WWII). In the film director William Wyler used an array of techniques to capture different feelings and emotions of each protagonist in the movie, as they adjust to life at home. In the bar scene where Al Stephenson and Fred Derry met to discuss Fred’s relationship with Al’s daughter, Peggy. In a wide shot view at the beginning of the scene when Fred walks into the bar, the viewer can see Al sitting in the booth at Butch’s bar then Fred walks in, into the bar in the background. Fred eventually takes a seat with Al in the booth, when Al’s Face comes into view finally He's background is dark as if he is coming from the shadows, this is different because throughout the film Al has this bright aura to him. In an over-the-shoulder shot the camera focuses on Al asking his friend if he loved his daughter Peggy, then the camera focused back onto Fred in another over-the-shoulder shot as Fred tries to process what Fred is asking of Al. When Fred answers Al with a Yes, that he did love Peggy, the view becomes a two shot view. Now both Al and Fred are in the shot, and the viewer can see both recations form each protagnoist. After a profound and heated discussion among both men, the camera as another close up Al asking Fred what was he going to do about his relationship with Peggy. Al then tells Fred that he no longer wants his friend to see his daughter and to end everything...

Heart Transplant Patient

...reviewing Ozzie’s chart, I felt as though he would not be a good recipient for this heart. I really appreciated the fact that he has been tutoring and mentoring to the youth, and he has signed a contract stating that if he got the transplant he would continue to tutor and stay clean for at least a year after the transplant. My concern is what happens after that year? The benefits to Ozzie getting the transplant would be he can continue to tutor the at risk youth that he has been helping and continue to make a difference in their lives. The harms of Ozzie getting this transplant would be him having a relapse and only waiting out that year before he began to use again. Even though this transplant would give him another 10 years or so to live Ozzie also has Recidivism which is sever with abuse and if he were to return to using again it would be a waste of the heart and he would die in a matter of months. Ozzie is a 38 year old man who has already wasted his life away on the choices that he has made with drugs, and I think he has been blessed to have found this shelter to help him live out the rest of his life clean. Before even reviewing Lisa’s chart the first thing I saw was a 12 year old little girl. I think anyone would take a look at her chart and automatically give the heart to Lisa, because she’s young and could live a long happy life. After reviewing Lisa’s chart her benefits of this transplant...

Hooter's Case Study

...Problem statement Hooter’s of America, a casual restaurant that serves wings and beers among other menu items, has been in operation across the country for over 30 years. It has successfully grown its business over the years, and currently operates and franchises more than 400 Hooter’s restaurants throughout America, Asia and other parts of the world. It thrives on attractive female waitresses with revealing uniforms. During the best years, it consistently saw sales of $1 billion per year. According to the Hooter’s company website, Hooter’s was the fastest-growing restaurant chain in the US in 1991 and 1992. Along with the success, Hooter’s also faced many legal issues with regards to sexual harassment and unfair work practices. Although most cases were settled out of court, it seems as though the brand image withered due to several bad press in relations to employees complaints, one of which a store manager in California videotaped female Hooter’s girls changing in the locker room. As a result, this “Breastaurant” saw its market share decrease due to new and successful competitors such as Kilted Tilts, Twin Peaks among others. In its parent holding company Chanticleer’s March 2014 10K financial statement, it states it is currently operating at a loss, citing “failure by Hooters to protect its intellectual property rights, including its brand image” as one of the reasons. In the following analysis, the Porter’s Five Forces Model will be applied to the restaurant sector...

Freshman Year: The Best Four Years Of My Life

...Looking back at my past fourteen-year old self is something I never wanted to have to do, but here goes anyway: They say high school’s supposed to be the best four years of your life. Freshman year held that idea alive in me for a short period of time. At first, I must admit that I was a pretentious, overly blatant asshole (still am) with no concern for others except for himself with an ounce of vulnerability wrapped up in that awkward looking, dark, wanna-be, “ghetto nerd” facade. I didn’t really understand what exactly I wanted to do with the time I had at Arroyo, so I just stuck with what I knew best: running and keeping my head in the clouds with the whole concept of having a significant other for the time being while attempting to maintain...

I remember my first college tour it was to University of South Carolina instantly I fell in love. Once I experienced the campus for the first time I knew it was a place I could call home. Getting my acceptance letter was one of the best days of my life before I knew it summer was over and it was move in day. Little did I know there were a lot of things I did not know about being a college student that I am gradually starting to figure out. There are a lot of changes that come with going to college and the way in which you deal with them all depends on you as a person. One of the hardest problems people tend to face coming to college is going to a new place where you really don’t know that many people and there are a ton of new faces. Through out my life I’ve always had to move a lot with my dad being in the military, I hated it at the time but now I am grateful for it because it made me who I am today. Always having to make new friends made me outgoing and not afraid to walk up to someone new and start talking to them. It made me not afraid to try new things and made me learn how to adapt to new places and new schools. Coming to college is such an exciting experience because it’s...

Netflix

...majority of people now-a-days having Netflix, so you will get a lot of feedback and different opinions. My opinions on your questions are followed: I do not think the increase in price is going to hurt Netflix. Like you mentioned, cable along with satellite are quite expensive. I became a Netflix customer earlier this year, and since then I have used Netflix more than our satellite TV. The $1 increase does not bother me, especially since it will not affect me until next year. Nor do I think new customers will be bothered with it. As long as they use that extra revenue to their advantage to be ahead of their competitors and provide more for their customers then their customers will not mind paying for it. It’s obvious that one best way Netflix can increase their revenue other than raising their prices is to add advertisement, however, I believe this would cause a down fall in customers. So possibly taking another route would be best for them. Maybe they can lock their customers in by providing contracts, or let their customers pay yearly rather than monthly. With contracts they can provide short ones of six months or one year, and longer ones for maybe three to five years. For myself, I rather just pay one big amount yearly than having to deal with paying it monthly. The can also provide a discount for paying it yearly. I do not think the market has saturated for Netflix. Netflix...

“the Teenage Years Are the Best Years of One’s Life.” Do You Agree?

...“The teenage years are the best years of one’s life.” Do you agree? “Life is 10 percent what you make it and 90 percent how you take it.” These were the words of the late Irving Berlin, one of America’s most prolific songwriters in history. Indeed, one’s perception on his or her best years of life would largely depend on how he or she regards life. In my perspective, the idea of the best years would be the years where one experiences the most happiness, where the years are filled with love and laughter, while teenage years refers to the age 13 to 19 period. To many, the teenage years are without doubt the best years of their life, however to that many number of people, there are many more out there who do not agree. In a general overview, there are many cases that supports or contradicts the statement, so let us go further into this issue and take a stand. The teenage years have often been considered as the carefree years, free of worries and responsibilities. Being carefree has also been cited as one of the reasons that made teenage years the best years of one’s life. However, to what extent is that true? In my opinion, the best indication of being carefree is stress levels. According to a survey by the American Psychological Association, American teenagers experience their highest level of stress on an average of 6.5days per month. This is considerably low compared to countries like China and Singapore, where the competitiveness resulted in teenagers experiencing...

...Telephone Analysis Report The telephone analysis was conducted with several telephone providers. These providers were AT&T, Earthlink, and Comcast. I received several quotes and information regarding 3 years contract terms. The findings are as follows: Current Service with AT&T: The audit of the AT&T bill revealed a monthly increase for several reasons. One reason the monthly increase arose over several months is that the promotional contract expired after a 24 month term. The price that was originally quoted was based on a 24 month term with the company entering into a new contract after the term was fulfilled, because we failed to renegotiate with AT&T, our bill increased by an average of $150 dollars at its highest price. I have enclosed an AT&T Monthly Analysis to show the increase over the past year. We also had a double increase in our long distance charges during the months of September, October, and November. The charges also made our monthly charges higher. The only consistent charges that we are paying are the internet charge. It was consistent at $54.95 per month. The areas of comparison were on set-up fees, local, long distance, internet, voicemail and installations. The findings are as follows: * AT&T- This term is for 2 years, the local service includes all of our current services plus the internet will be charged at a rate of $139.00 monthly. This includes 3 lines, long distance, internet, and voicemail. There are no setup fees...

Scheuling and Sequencing

...1. INTRODUCTION Title of the article is “Minimizing the sum of earliness/tardiness in multi-machine scheduling: a mixed integer programming approach”, and which at first defines the ET systems briefly. An early or late delivery will affect cost directly and objective of the ET problem fits perfectly. Assumptions in this problem are; • Due date assignments; being JIT is important to have maximum benefit from the sold product. • Penalty costs for being early or late; both situations cause penalty costs from warehouse or customer. • Sequence dependencies; machines setups are important in some cases and also the precedence may be required. • Machines; single or multiple machine systems are designed and N jobs are assigned to M machines. Moreover expectation is to reduce penalty costs by assigning in the right sequence. The author constructed a model by considering the above definitions and made a first draft, provided in the appendix 1. The objective function is about reducing the sum of earliness and tardiness costs with respect to the times of being early or tardy. First constraint claims the equality of the due date in terms of the time including the completion, earliness, tardiness, which restricts the values of being tardy or early because the due dates are appointed. Second constraint is a determination factor in binary system where if Z11 equals to 1 that job is held on machine 1 otherwise 0. Third and fourth constraints define the relation between precedence of jobs...

...sales information is also reported to the media and impacts the companies share price. 2. -Even with their issues, by analyzing yearly data it is clear that revenue has grown steadily. Sales revenue has grown yearly from 87,768,000 in 2004 to 228,305,000 in 2011. This can be linked to improvements in crop yield and irrigation causing an increase in demand. Mahindra likely would have grown even more if they were able to provide the proper tractors to dealers. In fact, by analyzing the data from months January 2004-Decemeber 2011 we see that the tractor industry as a whole experienced more growth compared to Mahindra. The slope of the industries trendline is 9.314 compared to 4.076 for Mahindra. -Revenue tends to be consistent throughout the year.
