Beta club’s motto is, “Let Us Lead by Serving Others.” By being actively involved in Beta club I have learned how to be a leader, what truly serving others is, and how it affects people. Being a leader is a struggle for me. I am what most consider to be shy and quiet. Through beta club, I have learned that it is not necessary to be loud and outgoing to strive in a leadership role. I can set examples for other members, do one on one tasks, and provide feedback to help others succeed. I effectively learned and executed this in my officer roles as Sergeant at Arms my junior year and as a Senior Council member. Having these skills will help prepare me for short-term plans, like presentations in classes, and long-term goals such as: becoming a biology

New College Essay About My Future Goals

...As a lawyer, I would like to do pro bono work in poor areas. In that position, those who may not afford adequate representation in court and can receive the proper counsel. I have no interest in working for a big law firm because it will not allow me to work with poorer Americans. Many people pursue a career in law because of the potentially high salary, but I am passionate about serving the areas that makeup my community. Becoming a lawyer involves helping and leading others and throughout my high school career, I have lived by these qualities. My involvement in the Beta Club has taught me how to be an effective leader. Having been elected North Carolina and National Beta Club Secretary, many Betas from around the country have trusted me to lead. The four pillars of the Beta Club are: Achievement, Character, Leadership, and Service. I have been prepared to lead, wether it is in the community, or when I am practicing law in a courtroom. I have participated in Student Government since freshman year of high school, I have had the opportunity to represent my graduating class as their President for three years when...

...Persuasion is a procedure aimed at influencing someone’s or a group’s attitude, beliefs or behavior. This type of convincing could be done by expressing information, a message or feelings by using written or spoken words. Persuasion takes strategic planning. We have learned about the seven most popular persuasive strategies used in our daily lives. I never realize how much persuasion is used every day. We see it a lot in marketing and advertising daily. Everyday someone is trying to persuade us to buy an item on TV, radio or signs. Or vice versa we try to influence our peers to do something or feel some way. Many times in my life I have been in situations which involve the persuasion of Reciprocation. I’m going to show that we are always inclined to repay another person with a kind gesture. My part time job is babysitting for a family every day after school and occasionally when needed. One of my experience of reciprocation happen last year right before spring break. I was exhausted studying for midterms and working and trying to get my stuff ready for my trip. The last day before my trip the husband handed me my paycheck and a nice envelope with my name on it. I opened the envelope and to my surprise there was a gift card for $60 and a note wishing a safe trip. I was so excited that I gave him a big hug and thanked him several times. By the time I got home I was so overwhelm that I took time and wrote them a thank you note. As we can see in this situation I felt so...

Businesses have to face the challenge of too many competitors, partly originated by the globalisation, all competing for same objective of making highest profit. So, increasingly companies are not merely asking themselves the management question of ‘Are we doing the right?’ but are having to regularly ask ‘Are we still doing it right?’ They have been seeking a more holistic means of doing this than traditional means of delivering products and services to the customers. In a volatile world, decision makers need options on the future and the ability to change direction as strategic opportunities. Looking Into Wal-Mart

...Looking Into WAL-MART The Company Every week, 100 million customers visit Wal-Mart stores worldwide, making it the world’s largest retailers. A leader in the discount industry, Wal-Mart posted $218 billion in sales last year as it continued to specialize in selling discounted household goods. The company has 1.3 million employees working at 3,200 locations in the United States and 1,100 locations in Mexico, Puerto Rico, Canada, Argentina, Brazil, China, Korea, Germany, and the United Kingdom. Wal-Mart aims to instill its logo, “Everyday Day Low Prices” in each and every division. Currently the company is broken down into four divisions: Wal-Mart Supercenters, Discount Stores, Neighborhood Markets and SAM’S Club Warehouses. The magnitude and global presence of Wal-Mart allows it to be a dominant player in the retailing market place. It is essential that fundamental relationships within the industry and the company’s environment need to be analyzed in order to efficiently evaluate the correct market price for the company’s stock (WMT (NYSE)). Industry Outlook Household products, retail drugs stores, and personal care segments are expected to produce above-average revenue growth and increase market share in the coming months. The uncertainty between the U.S. and global economies should not affect the sector because many of the products are basic necessities. The retail sector is expected to perform in line with the overall market in the next 6-12 months...

...Patrick Davis Red Bull 11/1/2012 Executive Summary Red Bull makes a premium energy drink for students, drivers, clubbers, business people, and athletes around the world to revitalize their bodies and minds. Problem: Red Bull, the leader in the energy drink sector of the soft drinks market, has seen its market share drop from 75% in 1998 to 47% in 2005. For the first time in the young energy drink sector, competitors have developed a legitimate share of the market: Hansen Natural’s Monster with an18% share and Rock Star with a 16% share. What actions need to be taken in order for Red Bull to solidify its market leader position? Answer: Red Bull should create a line extension offering either a diet drink to appeal to the recent trend of health conscious consumers or a new flavor while also changing their price point to be more sensitive to the consumer. By doing this, it will allow Red Bull to fight its competition in a very similar fashion to how they began to lose their market share (competitive pricing and a variety of options). Rationale: Red Bull has the strongest brand awareness in the energy drink segment which provides instant credibility to any line extension they may come out with. Red Bull has the extensive distribution network to make sure the product reaches the consumer no matter where they are. Market trends are currently in Red Bull’s favor as they show the customer wants options; giving Red Bull the perfect opportunity to develop a new product. Red...

...Harvard Business School The Emergence of a Global PC Giant: Lenovo’s Acquisition of IBM’s PC Division A Final Paper Submitted to Professor Mihir Desai By John Ackerly Måns Larsson Cambridge, MA December 2005 The Emergence of a Chinese Global PC Giant: Lenovo’s Acquisition of IBM’s PC Division By John Ackerly & Måns Larsson 1/28 Introduction On May 1, 2005, the Lenovo Group acquired IBM’s personal computing division (IBM PC) for $1.25 billion, achieving the goal of its ambitious founder, Liu Chuanzhi, to create a global PC manufacturing powerhouse. By transforming itself from an upstart company focused on its domestic market, Lenovo joined an exclusive club of Chinese companies, such as Huawei and TCL, which compete head-to-head with leading multinational corporations. Without the involvement of western private equity firms – Texas Pacific Group (TPG), Newbridge Capital,1 and General Atlantic Partners (GA) – this transaction may never have been consummated. Each firm brought crucial expertise and credibility that helped mitigate the significant financial, operational and cultural risks inherent in a large scale, cross-border transaction. Many believe that these efforts opened a new chapter in the growth of China’s economy and its integration with the West. As Bill Grabe, GA’s representative on Lenovo’s board, stated: “Lenovo’s acquisition of IBM mark the start of something bigger. In the future, we will see more Chinese global giants emerging through cross-border M&A.”2...
