Adam Wilson Mrs. Tillman 3rd Period 11-14-11 Cain When Adam’s wife Eve conceived, she bore a son. Eve said, “I have received a man from the Lord.” So she named him Cain. He was the first born of Adam and Eve. Then she bore another child, a boy called Abel. Abel followed the pursuits of pastoral life. “Cain was a sullen, self-willed, haughty, vindictive man; wanting the religious element in his character and defiant even in his attitude towards God”, (www.christiananswers.com). Cain was the first human child to be born in the Bible, and the first to follow after his father's line of work, cultivating the soil and becoming a farmer. At a time appointed by God, Cain brought his harvest from the field as an offering unto the Lord, but Abel brought a lamb. The Lord showed respect toward Abel and his offering, but He did not honor Cain and his offering. Cain was furious, so the Lord asked, Cain, why are you so frustrated and angry? God then reminded Cain that the death of an animal was required for sacrifice. Just as fig leaves did not cover Adam and Eve’s sin, a gift of bloodless plants and vegetables could never cover sin either. Cain became very angry and cherished feelings of murderous hatred against his brother. His desperate outrage led him to kill his brother (1 John 3:12). “For this crime, from that day on he led the life of an exile, bearing upon him some mark which God had gave him in answer to his cry for mercy”, (www.christian.about.com). This may have served as a protection from the wrath of his fellow-men, or it may be that God only gave him some sign to assure him that he would not be slain (Gen. 4:15). Doomed to be a wanderer and a fugitive in the earth, he went forth into the land of “exile”, which is said to have been in the “east of Eden,” and there he built a city, the first we read of, and called it

Bible Survey Method Paper

...Bible Survey Method Paper God gave us a great gift by leaving us His Living Word for us to read, study, know, and apply, so we may love and know Him better. However, in today’s world, the number of Christians who actually do these things are few. I am excited because I love God’s Word. I love how my God draws me to it, prepares me for what is next, and equips me through things I do not always know. At first glance, I thought the survey was like my Kay Arther Bible study, but as I read Jensen’s Survey of the New Testament by Irving L. Jensen, I am unsure. The survey is when you read the Bible as a whole and you highlight items that take place or that standout. You might even identify what you would title a certain chapter. But for the most part,...

Bible in an Hour Summary Paper

...Bible in an Hour Summary The Bible in an Hour by Wade Butler splits the Bible up with four different charts. They all cover different parts of the bible. The first chart depicts the whole Bible from beginning to end. Charts two and three covers the themes of the Old Testament. Chart four covers the New Testament. In chart one, the narrator starts off with talking about the infinity sign. It is very important when talking about the Bible and God. Infinity means that God creates time and all who inhabits time out of infinity. The infinity image is there before the creation of the world. There is also three interlocking circles on the chart. They represent the three symbols of God; the father, the son, and the Holy Spirit. The narrator covers the creation of earth. God created the Heavens and earth and all the living creatures found here. He then created humankind in his image. God put the man in charge of all the creatures. Man got to name all the animals and he was named Adam. Man wanted a companion so God created a partner for Adam and her name was Eve. God told Adam and Eve that they are not to eat the fruit on the tree of knowledge in the garden in Eden. A serpent, who is perceived as the devil, convinced Eve that the fruit will allow them to live forever and be as great as God. Adam and Eve ate from the tree and the world became cursed. Sin was created and plagued the earth. Cain and Abel were the sons of Adam and Eve. They made offerings to God and only Abel’s was acceptable...

There have been many changes, additions, and improvements during this time. Adventurer Ministry has shown huge growth as well. Youngsters in this age group are full of energy and get excited about being a part of an organization that is designed to expand their view of their world and strengthen their relationship with God, Mom, and Dad through ways that are so much fun. The roof over Adventurer Ministry is supported by several strong pillars. You hold in your hands one of them: the latest updated manual covering all 83 currently accepted Awards for use around the world. There is of course, one small problem: This area of Adventurer fun is not a static field of possibilities, it is a constantly growing—maybe almost exploding—source of activity. Therefore even at the time of this edition’s printing, there are already more Awards being...

Poisonwood Bible Reflection

...The Poisonwood Bible essay was a stylistic essay, and we had to choose the stylistic moves we believed what moves Barbara Kingsolver made throughout the book. I wrote my essay based on how Kingsolver expresses feminist ideologies throughout her book. This essay uncovers my skills of analyzing moves of an author and shows my improvement on my punctuation and the way I lay out my commas. I chose this essay, because it’s an essay that gave me a chance to convey my passion for feminism through Kingsolver’s work. On the other hand, there are still improvements...

Should Ebooks Take over?

...Yelyzaveta Tymchenko Dale Williams English 1020-101 July 4, 2013 Should e-books Take Over? In the current world, it is hard to see people with paper books in their hands. But people with smart phones, PC’s and other technological innovations can be seen in every place. Is it true that nobody is reading paper books in the world anymore? Some people say that e-books are more ecological and useful because there is no need to waste paper. However, others have a different opinion, and think that nothing can replace traditional books. Some people argue that there is no need in paper books anymore, while others people argue that there is need in paper books, and that it is more beneficial than e-books. There are two main words that need to be defined: traditional books and e-books. Today, most of the people are familiar with the term book. On a daily basis humans are using books for information, studying, researching or just for reading during their leisure time. A book is defined by Oxford dictionary as “a written or printed work consisting of pages glued or sewn together on one edge and bound in covers”. On Independence Day Americans put up flyers advertising firework shows using a combination of paper and printing. In order to arrive at the firework show a person may use a compass to help find the way. At the firework show a person may observeb a card game using playing cards. There may be food at the show for sale that may upset a person’s stomach and they may have to use the rest room. Using the restroom includes using toilet paper. While the firework show is very entertaining and festive, some Americans have their own traditions. Some may shoot at the sky with a gun using gunpowder. All these different things that can happen on any given Fourth of July in the United States are made possible by the Chinese. The Chinese innovative and creative inventions make the festive of any given Fourth of July possible. The inventions include Paper,Printing,Gunpowder, and theCompass, theCalendar year 365, Fireworks, Playing cards and Toilet paper. The Compass was originally designed to point the “true south”, but had since been used to point to the North. The first Compasses were made of magnetic iron ore, called lodestone. Reflection Paper

...Reflection Paper Shannon B. Payton Liberty University Introduction This paper is about reflecting on what was covered in Theology 104. There are many Christians who understand that God loves us and wants the best for His children. There are many subjects, videos, and extracted material that has been read or discussed over the span of four weeks which has given me a better understanding of the Bible and Christianity. My reflection for this paper I have chosen two topics that I have chosen to address for this paper. First, topic I have chosen will be Grace and secondly I will be focusing on Love. Grace Theological definition of “grace” as many scholar s of the bible will define this word as the unmerited favor of God toward man. Grace can also be defined as like forgiveness, repentance, regeneration and salvation to mean something as broad as describing the whole of God’s activity towards man or as narrow as describing one segment of activity (Baker’s Evangelical Bible Dictionary). Often times many would attribute grace toward s how women carry themselves and even in the bible grace can be defined through many scripture as action of one who are in high position. Biblical Foundation The first time Grace has been in mentioned was in Genesis chapter 8 because of Noah obedience to God and God was tired or as the bible scholar would state grieved by man’s wickedness and caused God to erase mankind. In all this, Noah found favor with God. Here the word favor and grace...

Theo104 Does the Bible Have Authority

...Seven Reflection Essay Michelle A. Woycitzky Liberty University THEO104: Module Seven Reflection Essay 2 I. Introduction To define yourself as a Christian is to believe in God, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, and the text of the Holy Bible. Many believers think that this is all it takes to be welcomed into Heaven and enjoy the afterlife in peaceful bliss with their maker. Much of what has been learned in this class these past two months has given me the opportunity to explore Christianity beyond face value, as it should be explored. The true model Christian delves into the inner workings of the scripture and promotes the promises made by God when one lives their life as a messenger of that scripture. Education is the only way to make a person aware of what it truly means to be a Christian. In reflecting on the concepts learned in this class, a series of questions were presented, three chosen, then answered on the basis of what I have learned. The first question I chose was, Does the Bible have authority? Through the Doctrine of the Bible and arguments that the Bible is the Word of God, this question will be answered along with the information in Towns book. Secondly, I chose, Why are personal testimonies important in sharing the gospel? This topic was of great interest to me because I am capable of explaining it from a personal viewpoint. Lastly I chose, If a person is a Christian, does...

...diligence in the research and understanding necessary to answer with confidence, vigor and enthusiasm. The first question that will be answered is simple in thought, but more complex in true understanding. Does the Bible have authority? Next, we will discuss the importance of personal testimonies in sharing the gospel. Finally, we will look at life as a Christian. If a person is a Christian, does it matter how they live their life? Throughout the following pages these questions will be explored and answered fully, truly and completely. II. Section One: Does the Bible have authority? Many people read the Bible with cynicism in their hearts and attempt to be overly critical as a result. This is true for both Christians and non-believers alike. In some ways it seems easier to look for a mistake or try to disprove scripture instead of having true faith. This poses the question. Does the Bible have authority? If so, where does its authority come from and how do we know? There are many arguments that show the Bible’s authority and confirm the scripture is the word of God. The most powerful to me personally is the convicting, convincing and converting power of the message. The power of the Bible made itself clear to me as I was reading an old Bible I found in my Grandfather’s things after he passed. I was going through some of his things and began to thumb through the dusty old tome. I found myself returning to the pages and eventually sitting in an attic...

Reflection Paper 2

...Reflection Paper Thomas Stevens Liberty University Theology 104 Prof. Scott Manor June 08, 2014 Reflection Paper 1. Introduction: This reflection paper that I am writing has given me pause as I had thought about the two topics that I would like to discuss. I have gained a better understanding about many of the topics, but I have chosen to write about Prayer and Sin Nature. Man is naturally a sinner and as we sin, we can use prayer to ask God for forgiveness. I believe these two topics relate to each other in so many ways that they would flow together easily as I write about them. The first topic I would like to discuss is Prayer. 2. Part One: Prayer The theological definition of prayer can be summarized as a conversation with God. Prayer may be oral or mental, occasional or constant, and informal or formal (Easton’s Bible Dictionary, Bible Gateway.com). The Bible gives a lot of leeway when it comes to how we pray or what we say to God in our prayers. The Biblical Foundation can be defined by how many times it is mentioned throughout the Bible and there are some very powerful examples of prayer represented. Samson prayed to God and God showed him a well to quench his burning thirst, and lived on to judge Israel (NKJV, Judges 15:18-20). Matthew: 6 gave us the Lord’s Prayer as a prayer to model ours after and give us a good foundation as to how to pray correctly. Practical application just means that prayer is a communication tool Christians use to communicate...
