Last Tuesday I attended the Big Band Concert in the Marshall Arts Center. Both the Weber Music Hall and the Marshal Arts Center have very different atmospheres. Unlike the small band, the big band songs seemed to be a lot shorter and were instructed by a conductor. For the first couple songs, there were big basses, drums, a piano, a marimba, saxophones, an electric guitar, trumpets and trombones. The first song was upbeat and had very loud, accented parts. All the instruments played while the symbols stood out the most. One of the trumpet players had a really good solo.
One of the next songs was very country club like. It was a lot slower and had a romantic vibe that would be good for dancing. The marimba was not used for this song and the

Rolling Stones: The Rolling Stones

...“Greatest Rock ‘n’ Roll Band in the World”, or the “Stones” are all names of which the influential bad boys of Rock ‘n’ Roll go by. The well deserved and hardly argued title of the “Greatest Rock ‘n’ Roll Band in the World” was first bestowed upon them in the 1960s. Although there were other Rock ‘n’ Roll bands rising to fame at this time, almost simultaneously, the Rolling Stones graciously accepted the title and carried it to the top along with them, taking no breaks from the spotlight. The Rolling Stones left a lasting impression on the music industry as well as on most, if not all, of the people that have had the pleasure of enjoying their music, including myself. I was first captivated by the Stones as a kid...

Rock Music and Culture of Th 1990's

...Culture Report There were many people and events that shaped my taste in music as a teenager in the 1990’s. My parents raised me in a household of strictly Country & Western music. Grunge music had exploded in the United States. The political atmosphere in the 90’s was going through a transition from a Republican President to a Democratic President that promised many changes. Although my parents raised me on country &western, and grunge was the predominant music style on the 90’s, and the country was going through big changes politically I have matured into my own eclectic taste in music today. When I was growing up my parents only listened to country& western music. They both grew up on farms, and that was the predominant music available to them. My dad was also a huge fan of Elvis Presley, and my mom listened to Willie Nelson, and Kenny Rogers. Around the age of 10 I remember my dad winning the Michael Jackson album Bad in a raffle, and he didn’t want it, so he gave it to me. This is my first memory of really getting to explore a type of music other than country& western. I was hooked on the upbeat dance tempo, and strong message of confidence. The first time my brother showed me the music video for “Bad” on MTV I became addicted to learning the moves of the urban street gang dancers. As a pre-teen my first musical “love” was The New Kids on the Block. I had my entire bedroom plastered with the posters I had ripped out of magazines such as Tiger Beat, and Big Bopper...

Cool Concert Report Sample

...This report will be describing the Birth of the Cool Concert. The Concert took place in the School’s auditorium. All the seating took place on the actual stage allowing the audience to get a closer experience. The some of those in the audience were dressed in a casual fashion while others were dressed in something a little more formal. The performers of the concert were dressed in nice attire. The attire included kakis and nice buttoned shirts. Both the audience and the performers were both respectful and polite. The concert played a few pieces from the album titled “Birth of the Cool”. I liked all the songs that were played. The song that I enjoyed the most was Moon Dreams. Moon Dreams was originally composed by Johnny Mercer and Chummy MacGregor. The song itself can be labeled under the category of cool jazz. The song has a slow and chill feel to the track. The song was played by a fairly small band consisting of five different instruments. The composition of instruments consisted of a trumpet, baritone sax, alto sax, trombone, and the drums. The song at the time sounded as it was in a minor scale. The song also...

If you want to communicate with teens and their pre-pubescent counterparts, otherwise known as tweens, you need an expert and that doesn't mean a parent. In order to connect with teens and tweens on their level, you need to play where they play. Teen and tween virtual worlds and the people who create, monitor and brand on them offer a direct, immersive channel for communicating with this unpredictable demographic. With 1.6 million apparel items "bought" on Zwinky and a million instances of Sears’s clothes being tried on and saved on Meez, the brand engagement exceeded expectations, says Dave Bazant, Sears' advertising manager for online and emerging media. "The effort was about learning as much as we can," Bazant says. "Working with a younger target that doesn't necessarily consider our brand, [the campaign] certainly drives up our name with this audience." "Engagement" is the operative word on virtual sites where brands can splash their name around the environment by opening boutiques in virtual malls or sponsoring lounges where users can congregate. To build up its back-to-school campaign, Sears did just that on the teen and tween sister sites Zwinky and Meez. In its Arrive Lounge on Zwinky, a Sears-created video featuring High School Musical 3 star Vanessa Hudgens played in the background. Users could...

Guinness was the group’s top- selling beverage after Smirnoff vodka, and the group’s third most profitable brand, with an estimated global value of US$ 1.2 billion. More than 10 million glasses of the world’s most popular stout were sold every day, predominantly in Guinness’ top markets: respectively, the UK, Ireland, Nigeria, the USA and Cameroon. However, the famous dark stout with the white, creamy head was causing some strategic concerns for Diageo. In 1999, for the first time in the 241-year history of Guinness, sales fell. In early 2002 Diageo CEO Paul Walsh announced to the group’s concerned shareholders that global volume growth of Guinness was down 4 per cent in the last six month of 2001 and, more alarmingly, sales were also down 4 per cent in its home markets, Ireland. How should Diageo address falling sales in the centuries- old brand shrouded in Irish mystique and tradition? The changing face of the Irish beer market The Irish were very fond of beer and even fonder of Guinness. With close to 200 liters per capita drunk each year- the...
