He also said he would hold on the back the whole time, yet he didn’t. As soon as I started balancing myself, he let go. Boy what a mistake that was. I looked back and realized that he had let go. I was scared to death that I was going to fall. When I was scared, I mysteriously forgot how to use the brakes and crashed right into a fence. My dad kept encouraging me to get up and try again, and after about 15 minutes, I finally got up and tried to ride the bicycle. But I still failed to bike it. As a results, I falled in the drain. There was a scratch on my knee, my nose was bleeding and there was a small hurt at my elbow. The next morning I woke up bright and early, and very eager to try to ride my bike. My nose had felt better, so I wasn’t that afraid of falling anymore. This time I had knee pads, elbow pads, wrist pads, and of course my helmet. During a meeting Stumptown asked the Karaba what they needed. One of the answers was bikes to help transport the coffee from the hills to the processing centers. Thus, the Bikes to Rwanda Project non-profit organization was born. Bikes to Rwnada was started to help the developing communities achieve economic stability, sustainability, prosperity and even pride. With help from bicycle maker Tom Ritchey, founder of Ritchey Design, Bikes to Rwanda designed bikes with longer frames to be able to transport up to 350 lbs. Until Bikes to Rwanda started providing bikes, workers had to carry bags full of cherries up and down the steep muddy unpaved hills one bag at a time. Now, workers can carry up to two bags at a time and much quicker than before.
