Bill Cosby’s Downfall from Fame Everyone has flaws in their lives, some are tragic that lead to a downfall. These flaws usually show in celebrities more than the average human being. Tragic flaws of a celebrity stand out to the public, and they are usually not forgotten. There is always high scrutiny when you are a celebrity and in the public eye. Bill Cosby was a celebrity who lost all of his credibility when he put lust as his number one priority. By putting lust at the top of his priorities, Bill Cosby’s career and life started on a downhill slide. Bill Cosby, started his successful career as a comedian in the 1960’s ("Bill Cosby." All of Bill Cosby’s past accusations started to resurface when a comedian named Hannibal Burress did a taped stand-up performance that referenced some of Bill Cosby’s past sexual harassment allegations ("Bill Cosby." Contemporary Black Biography. Vol. 125.). After that performance went viral on the internet, actress Barbara Bowman was inspired and wrote a piece for the Washington Post. This piece was titled “Bill Cosby Raped Me. Why Did It Take 30 Years for People to Believe My Story?” ("Bill Cosby." Contemporary Black Biography. Vol. 59.). All of these allegations that Cosby tried to keep under wraps were finally coming out and the new allegations were making the front page of newspapers and magazines everywhere. ("Bill Cosby." This definition relates to and describes Bill Cosby. Bill Cosby was respected nationally. People trusted Bill Cosby and they saw him as a role model, but then his life spiraled down because of bad decisions. Cosby’s whole career went sour because of a flaw he had. Bill Cosby’s tragic flaw undeniably falls under the category of lust. Some people including Beverly Johnson believed that Bill Cosby took power over the people he sexually assaulted(Webber). Cosby was able to hide this flaw for a while, but eventually it became evident to the public. After denying sexual assaults for decades, it's hard for people to forgive and forget This shows how one flaw can ruin everything.
Some people will argue that Cosby was never respected. If Cosby wasn’t respected, then he would not have been a pitchman for well know companies, including JELL O or a guest star on a children’s television show("Bill Cosby." Biography.com.). If people would have know the truth about him, he never would have been in such demand to be a spokesman for highly regarded products.
