Explore the Ways in Which Shakespeare Presents Men in Power in the Tempest Showing How Your Understanding Is Illuminated by Your Study of the Presentation of Men in Dr Faustus

...The Tempest written during the 1600s by one of the most influential writers of his time, William Shakespeare, takes us deep in to the Renaissance, in which questions of religion and man’s place in the world were the cause of much conflict. There are many insinuations that the character of Prospero is a cover for Shakespeare himself and through the protagonist, Shakespeare voices some of his views about the world he was living in. Along with themes of power, men and control, colonization also seems to be a main focus of Shakespeare throughout The Tempest, as almost every character ponders upon how he would rule the island on which the play is set if he were its king. Dr Faustus was written during the reign of England’s Queen Elizabeth I by Christopher Marlowe. It focuses on the main character, Dr Faustus, selling his soul to the devil in exchange for all the luxuries the world has to offer “twenty-four years of all voluptuousness.” Both plays present men questing for power and have left their mark on the modern world of literature. Shakespeare highlights the dominant themes power and control through the characters of Prospero and Antonio. Throughout the play many of the characters are in constant battle for power and freedom sometimes resulting in them succumbing to malevolent deeds. Prospero personifies the imperialist omnipotent ruler as he enslaves Caliban son of Sycorax and rightful ruler of the island. He uses the informal pronoun and pejorative phrase “thou most lying...

Envionment of Business - Funding a Business Venture

...Environments of Business – Funding A Business Venture Susan Blanks AIU Online Abstract After Susan had made the decision to license her technology as a means of funding her business, she had to decide what type of licensing contract she wanted. She decided that she would negotiate a contract for a combination of an up-front fixed fee and a per unit output royalty. She made this decision based on the fact that she and the licensee would be competitors and the realization that the threat of imitation was credible and that the cost of imitation was positive. She knew that because her technology was going to improve the licensee’s profits that she would benefit financially as well. She chose to license her technology in the domestic market because she discovered that depending on the county, government policy might prevent competition in the licensee’s market. Susan knew that this was just the beginning and that she still had a lot to investigate and learn, but she felt up to the challenge. She was amazed to discover that there was so many avenues one could take when trying to fund a business. My preferred source of funding is to license the technology. Unit 2_Glossary.pdf, when a company develops a special, unique, technology it will frequently allow other firms to license that invention, in return for giving the firm, which developed it, a share of the revenues the second firm earns. I chose this source of funding because I didn’t want to borrow from a bank because...

: How Siemens Got Its Geist Back

...Siemens’ CEO, Peter Loscher, still recalls the blank stares when he asks about the company’s green strategy after his arrival three years ago. Loscher knew that Siemens had world-class researchers and lots of promising products in the pipeline. However, the company was traumatized by the bribery firestorm that it failed to see opportunities that could power Siemens’s growth in the years ahead. The transformation has given a boost to Siemens’s finance. Profits are at an all-time high, and shareholders are pocketing record dividends. Loscher, however, exhorts his team not to get cocky. Loscher wasted little time showing his tenure would be business as usual. A big mobile-phone business, once the company’s most prized unit, was given away and eventually shuttered. The state of crisis also allowed Loscher to chip away at Siemens’s inbred culture, adding to it some GE-style management discipline. Loscher has moved quickly to do away with the German company’s traditional fiefdoms. The transformation has positioned Siemens to go head-to-head against rival GE. The two companies compete in health care technology, power turbines, transportation, and eco-friendly energy generation. Loscher doesn't even need words to explain his progress since coming on board. Asked what he has achieved since taking over at Siemens, he silently holds up a chart showing his company's stock performance vs. competitors. Question1: Describe Peter Loscher’s two leadership styles. Leadership styles generally...
