...The central idea of marketing is of a matching a company’s capabilities and the wants of customers in order to achieve the objectives of both parties. Therefore, marketing is the process of planning and executing the conception, pricing, promotion, and distribution of ideas, goods and services in order to create exchanges that satisfy individual and organisational goals. When Adam Smith said that consumption is the sole end and purpose of production he was in fact describing what has in recent years become known as the marketing concept. The marketing concept implies that all the activities of an organisation are driven by a desire to satisfy customer needs. In order to satisfy customer needs it is essential for today’s businesses to create a marketing plan. Marketing planning is concerned with adapting the organisation to a changing environment. Long-term success in current competitive markets requires a co-ordinated approach to meet customer needs better than competitors. All companies have a set of capabilities in the form of resources and management skills, which are not necessarily capable of taking advantage of all market opportunities as effectively. Marketing planning is a logical sequence and a series of activities leading to the setting of objectives and the formulation of plans for achieving them. The marketing plan operates at two levels. The strategic marketing plan lays out the broad marketing objectives and strategy at the corporate level. It analyses the marketing...

A Ban Too Fast Analysis

...Obesity has been the main problem throughout the United States of America. Michelle Obama has a campaign called Let’s Move; essentially this is to get the younger generation of children to start making healthier choices for their future. Michael Bloomberg is the Mayor of New York City, and has been for the past eleven years. Instead of Bloomberg making a healthier choice for kids, he wants to make healthier choices for everybody that lives in New York City. Mayor Michael Bloomberg has already started generating methods to help improve the health of New York. In an article called A Ban Too Far by an anonymous editorial of the New York Times, mentions that Bloomberg has already made an outlaw on smoking in all restaurants, work environments, and bars. He also banned trans-fat in restaurants, and every chain food restaurant in New York is mandated to post calories of all the food on the menu. Mayor Bloomberg’s new plan is to ban the sale of all sugary drinks that are considered to be sixteen ounces or more. The only negative aspect to this is an individual could purchase multiple drinks to...

Team Ethics

...Team Ethics Paper July 27, 2013 MGTOP593 Section 3 Team 4 Normative Ethical Decision Making Frameworks 1. Utilitarian approach is an ethical theory stating that the rightness and wrongness of an act depends on the consequences the act produces not the act itself. There are four components of the utilitarian approach: 1) the act does not need to maximize benefits but rather focuses on utility, 2) when calculating benefits, utilitarian’s consider themselves equally with others in the equation, 3) utilitarian’s focus on long-term consequences in addition to the short-term benefit-harm ratio. According to utilitarianism an act is not moral only because its benefits outweighs its harm, instead one where utility i.e. satisfaction has been maximized. (Frederick, 1999, pp. 17-19) 2. Unlike the utilitarian approach, the Virtue ethics approach does not take into account the principles of the action, the action itself, or the consequences of the action, rather focusing on the values and moral character of the person performing the act. Characteristics are the personal virtues. (Frederick, p. 30) The shortcomings of virtue ethics are its inability to solve the problem of dilemma when a person has contradictory values. Second, the justification problem, because every culture has different virtues how do you justify which character traits are virtues. (Hursthouse, 2013) 3. Deontological ethics approach judges the morality of an action based on expectations from the person based...

...T HIS HOW NRA E A BIGGER, RICHER, MEANER GUN-CONTROL S IS T HE ENDS MOVEMENT HAS ARRIVED. BY ALEC MACGILLIS 18 JUNE 10, 2013 THE NEW REPUBLIC buyers failed in the Senate, and the fatalistic shrugs in Washington were so numerous they were nearly audible. The legislation had been a modest bipartisan compromise, supported by 90 percent of the public and lobbied for hard by the president. A group backed by Michael Bloomberg had spent $12 million on ads pressuring senators to vote “yes.” When the bill fell short—by just ve votes—it seemed to con rm a Beltway article of faith: There’s no point messing with the National Ri e Association (NRA). And that, many assumed, was the last we’d be hearing about gun reform. But then something unexpected happened. Some of the senators who’d voted “no” faced furious voters back home. Even before Erica La erty, the daughter of murdered Sandy Hook Elementary principal Dawn Hochsprung, confronted New Hampshire Republican Kelly Ayotte at a particularly tense town hall, Ayotte’s disapproval rating in the state had jumped from 35 to 46 percent—half the respondents said her “no” vote made them less likely to support her. In Pennsylvania, which has the second-highest concentration of NRA members in the country, the bill’s Republican co-sponsor, Pat Toomey, saw his approval reach a record high. One of the country’s best-known gun-rights advocates, Robert Levy, said the NRA’s “stonewalling of the background-check proposal was a mistake, both...

...globalization goes very wrong. These two studies reveal how marketer think they are giving a wonderful product and service in the case of Apple's the iPhone and Disney the Shark's Fin Soup. Understanding the consumer’s behavior and the customs and values of the culture impacted these two campaigns. Apologies good media press and changes in the strategy to get the approval of the consumers. Both case studies points out the impact of technology and how it at first affected the campaigns for bad with negative that changed the reputation of both companys. Apple's dilemma was very embarrassing for the company with negative reports and predictions of how the iPhone was going to sell in Japan. The propaganda was already put out to the media about the Japanese saying No Thanks to Apple concerning the iPhone 3. Apple thought that Japan would be ecstatic with the new product but supposedly the opposite occurred with reports of weak showing of the iPhone3. Of course with Apple being the cutting edge in technology and innovation in the western world Japan did not feel the same way about Apple's iPhone3. First Japan was a hard market to try to get into the for Apple and their competition Nokia, and Motorola, whose attempts to grab Japanese customers were futile. So this was going to be a difficult campaign for Apple. At the time Japan was hostile toward western brand including Nokia and Motorola which I thought were Japanese brands. What’s wrong with the iPhone, from a Japanese perspective? The...

Case1

...By Nicholas Comfort, Donal Griffin and Jeffrey Vögeli (Bloomberg) -- Deutsche Bank AG co-Chief Executive Officer John Cryan is losing market share in businesses he wants to expand, highlighting the risks he faces in scaling back costly debt trading. The German lender lost ground to competitors in the trading of stocks and in advising on mergers and acquisitions in the U.S. and Europe, both businesses that Cryan, 55, has singled out as core to the investment bank. Deutsche Bank’s equity- derivatives unit, which trades contracts tied to shares, fell “significantly” because of “challenging risk management,” the bank said. Cryan, who took over from former investment banker Anshu Jain in July, is seeking to reverse a slump in profitability by closing down parts of the bond-trading empire his predecessor built, shrinking the global footprint and selling a consumer banking business in Germany. Deutsche Bank’s 30 percent decline in fourth-quarter investment banking and trading revenue and first full-year loss since 2008 are adding to investor concerns over the firm’s ability to earn enough money to fund Cryan’s overhaul and boost profitability. “Performances like the fourth quarter do raise serious question marks about the franchise,” said Jonathan Fearon, who helps manage about 300 billion pounds ($429 billion) at Standard Life Plc and who doesn’t own Deutsche Bank shares. “We are definitely now in “show me” mode. That’s obviously going to be the question mark...

Persuasive Essay On Soda Ban

...The mayor of New York City has come up with an idea to combat an ever growing problem. Mayor Micheal Bloomberg has created a ban, a “soda ban” to be exact; his hopes are that it helps to decrease obesity rates. This may seem like a over step of a boundary but if you look at the statics you can see that it’s not. For example Americans now consume 200-300 more calories daily then 30 years ago due to the increase of sugary drinks, this is also the reason why a child’s odds of being obese are 60% greater. If you do the math this would mean that on average an American consumes 3 pounds of sugar each week, which equals 3,550 pounds in a lifetime; that is about 1,767,900 skittles and that is enough to fill a dumpster! If you don’t know what problem...

The median forecast of 41 economists surveyed by Bloomberg was for a 0.83 percent advance. Annual inflation accelerated to 6.15 percent, faster than the 4.5 percent midpoint of the central bank’s target range for a 29th month.
