In each trial we were shown a word that either said GREEN, RED or BLUE that was shown in either green, red or blue font color. And my job was to press the correct key button with the correct color on the screen as quickly as possible. During this trial my job was to press either the J, K or L button when the colors were presented. When going through the trial the first one I got incorrect I was confused because it said GREEN but the color was blue so I pressed the green button. While going through the trial I had to keep repeating to myself the colors and not get confused with what the word said. I experienced confusing at times and had to concentrating harder than I normally would. When the brain sees the word “green” you automatically hit the green button, but if the word says “green” with a blue font color your brain has to think a little harder and not get confused.
The expected results were that people would tend to be faster at identifying the color when the word and font color are the same and be slower when they are different. And that is exactly what happened to me. I was a lot slower when the font and word color were different and didn’t hesitate at all when they were the same. …show more content…
It can occur every time you go to the grocery store. A shopping list changes the focus of your attention from the items on the shelf to the list in your hand. Instead of wandering down each aisle with a lot of distractions, your focus can be on the list. Where can I find this specific item? How many of these do I need? What’s next on my list? Being focused on the list can make it much harder to be distracted by the items on the shelf. If you walk the aisle without a mission then you usually end up with a lot of items in your cart you don’t need or you can get pulled away from the task easily. I don’t think it can be influenced by other factors such as fatigue or

The Effects of Reading and Naming Colors on Reaction Time

...1 The Effects of Reading and Naming Colors on Reaction Time Eliza Chulyakova Queens College Abstract The purpose of this experiment was to examine and test the effect of varying levels of interference on one’s response time to name errors and font colors. This experiment is a modified version of an experiment conducted by Stroop in 1935 which tested the interference between incongruent word-color combinations. Seventeen Queens College students participated in this experiment. The independent variable of the experiment was interference, and it consisted of three levels; colored “XXX” symbols, congruent color-word combinations, and incongruent color-word combinations. The dependent variable within the experiment was the mean response time it took participants to accurately choose the color that represented the word set before them. Results have revealed that when different levels of interference were administered, a change in the overall mean response-time becomes evident; as the level of interference increases, so does the number of errors and the time it takes for participants to respond . The Effect of Word and Color Interference on Response Time Interference is categorized as the presentation of two or more stimuli at a given time. Ever since the 1800’s, the effects of interference in several serial verbal reactions have been studied. These studied intended to reveal the various effects that are a result from interfering stimuli that which would not...

...INTRODUCTION  How to Learn Photoshop A huge advantage of Photoshop is you have more ways to learn it, like this page here, than any other program. So many people know it it's easy to learn just about anywhere. The best way to learn Photoshop is to take a class at your local community college to learn the basics of Lightening Underexposed Images and Correcting Color Casts and White Balance Problems. These basic adjustments are covered in every introductory Photoshop class and book so I'll just cover them quickly below. You must be fluent in these to get anywhere with Photoshop for optimizing images. Photoshop also has built-in help as well as free tutorial usually included in the box. Apple

...APPLE VS. MICROSOFT – A WEBSITE USABILITY STUDY RESOURCES, USABILITY · MAY 29, 2009 Today we’re going to compare the websites of two monumental companies: Apple and Microsoft. The two giants pride themselves for producing cutting edge consumer and business products, and are leading the developments in software and hardware. But what about their websites? How do they both compare, and more important, which one is better and more usable? Well, in this article we’ll take a look at both websites for closer examination from a usability point of view. One important thing to note before we proceed to compare these two websites is that each company’s business revolves around different markets. Microsoft primarily makes its profits from business to business, which mainly consists of selling licenses to its operating system to computer manufacturers and office suites for enterprises. That’s not to say that they don’t sell to consumers — they do, and they have consumer only product lines as well, such as the Xbox gaming console, and of course home users also buy Windows and Office. This means that their business targets pretty much everyone, from home computer owners to developers and enterprises; which in turn stretches the purpose of their website to try and serve everyone. On the other hand, Apple is primarily a consumer company, and makes most of its profit selling hardware, like its iPod music players and Mac computers. This makes the target of Apple’s site much clearer — marketing...

Apple vs Microsoft

...MICROSOFT VS MACBOOK INTRODUCTION May 2006 marked a special moment in computer history. Apple introduced the MacBook: the first consumer Apple laptop that runs on an Intel chip. This is significant because Windows users now can truly compare Windows-based laptops to the MacBook family. The speed of the MacBook is on pace with the speed of PC laptops. Windows users have less and less reasons to remain Windows users. Running parallel to the increasing reasons to consider Mac over Windows is the fact that our world has evolved from a desktop world to a laptop world. Laptops are so fast and well-equipped nowadays that they serve the needs of not only consumer users, but also professional users such as graphic designers and high-end Photoshop users. There's now only two groups of users that should even consider buying desktops:1. mega-power users. This includes hardcore gamers, 3d animation users and professional video editors. These guys need the fastest machines available to make their processor-hogging routines running faster and faster.2. super-budget users. You can get a nice desktop for $500 nowadays. nice laptops go for about $1000+.That leaves the rest of us. And that's a large group. Laptops offer a freedom that no desktop (or even an iMac) can offer: Portability. Use the laptop on the couch while watching TV. Use it at your desk to get serious work done. Use it on the deck to enjoy the spring weather. Use it at the coffee shop or library to simply look cool. Plus, they...
