Bubbly Fruit Water
On the first page of the ad, it shows a simple image of a model drinking from a Glacéau fruitwater bottle using a straw. On the second page of the ad, it shows a closer view of the bottle which explains the positive aspects of the product. It explains how the water contains no juice, has zero calories, is naturally flavored, is enhanced with nutrients, and has “billions of bubbles.” The bottle of the product itself is very sleek and thin. The ad is very simple and minimalistic overall with few words, and it makes references to how sparkly and “bubbly” the water is several times. The ad also has multiple unspoken messages. By using the repetition of “bubbliness” and beauty, it implies that if the consumer drinks the water, …show more content…
The ad says that the Fiji water has a “sleek new size,” which contains 700 mL of water. Therefore, the water bottle physically fits in smaller spaces and metaphorically fits into the consumer’s life, which displays convenience. The ad has few words, so it is minimalistic and looks simple. The water bottle is used as the letter “I” in the word “FIT.” The unspoken message in this ad is that the consumer will be fit and in excellent physical health if he or she drinks this water. Furthermore, the blue color scheme of the ad gives it a mellow mood, and blue is often used in advertising when referring to a product that is healthy to the body or mind. The simplicity of the ad indicates that the Fiji water is simple and convenient to use because of it “sleek size.” Finally, the flower, which has the only vibrant color in the ad, is used to represent the water’s properties that can create a flourishing, lively, and healthful individual. The company chose to use this type of advertisement for emotional appeal. By naming the product’s healthy properties, it makes the consumer think that Fiji water is the best and most healthy water for the consumer and his or her family. Moreover, the ad seems to be geared toward athletic individuals who want to stay fit. The ad makes Fiji water part of the word “fit,” and explains how the new Fiji bottle is thinner than before. Both of these attributes make the ad appeal to

The Last to See Them Alive The village of Holcomb stands on the high wheat plains of western Kansas, a lonesome area that other Kansans call "out there." Some seventy miles east of the Colorado border, the countryside, with its hard blue skies and desert-clear air, has an atmosphere that is rather more Far West than Middle West. The local accent is barbed with a prairie twang, a ranch-hand nasalness, and the men, many of them, wear narrow frontier trousers, Stetsons, and high-heeled boots with pointed toes. The land is flat, and the views are awesomely extensive; horses, herds of cattle, a white cluster of grain elevators rising as gracefully as Greek temples are visible long before a traveler reaches them. Holcomb, too, can be seen from great distances. Not that there's much to see - simply an aimless congregation of buildings divided in the center by the main-line tracks of the Santa Fe Rail-road, a haphazard hamlet bounded on the south by a brown stretch of the Arkansas (pronounced "Ar-kan-sas")...

...‘ THE BUSINESS OF MASS MEDIA Advertising and Commercial Culture 345 Early Developments in American Advertising 351 The Shape of U.S. Advertising Today 359 Persuasive Techniques in Contemporary Advertising 366 Commercial Speech and Regulating Advertising 374 Advertising, Politics, and Democracy Back in 1993, the trade magazine Adweek wrote about “The Ultimate Network”— something called the Internet: “Advertisers and agencies take note: It has the potential to become the next great mass/personal medium.”1 The prediction was correct, if not understated. The Internet has become a huge medium for advertisers, targeting audiences more precisely than any medium before it. Yet, none of the venerable ad agencies at that time could have guessed that an Internet start-up—Google— would become bigger than the leading multinational advertising holding companies like Omnicom, WPP, Interpublic, and Publicis. Nearly 99 percent of Google’s $16.6 billion revenue in 2007 came from advertising. THE BUSINESS OF MASS MEDIA B 343 ‘ ADVERTISING However, Google is different from the Madison Avenue agencies. It doesn’t design witty, slick ad campaigns. Instead, it facilitates the dull but effective text-based sponsored links that appear in Google searches or on affiliated sites. “We are in the really boring part of the business…the boring big business,” Google’s CEO Eric Schmidt says.2 What Google’s ads lack in creativity, they make up in precision. Google’s AdWords advertising...

Luffy

...Luffy left his village on a small boat. He then waited out upon the open sea for the Lord of the Coast. With a rubber fist, he punched the Sea King in the face. With plans to create his own Jolly Roger and to get at least ten crew members, he then decided to begin his journey as a pirate and sailed on. Luffy declared that he will become the Pirate King.[21] While sailing across the ocean, Luffy accidentally came across a whirlpool.[22] To escape from it, Luffy hid inside a barrel as the whirlpool sucked his boat in. He and his barrel were recovered some time later by some pirates who were in the service of Alvida. Luffy then came out from his barrel much to their surprise and met up with Coby. After defeating Alvida, Luffy was able to free Coby from his servitude and acquire a small boat. As he and Coby were sailing to the next island so that Coby could enlist in the Marines, Luffy decided to seek a bounty hunter who was imprisoned there. Luffy decided to ask the infamous pirate hunter, Roronoa Zoro, to become the first of his crew.[23] Luffy Asks Zoro to Join Crew Luffy asking the bounty hunter Zoro to become the first of his crew. Upon arriving in Shells Town, Luffy and Coby learn the truth about Zoro through Rika.[24] With this in mind, Luffy decided to free Zoro from Captain Morgan and Helmeppo.[25] With the promise of giving Zoro's swords back if he would join Luffy's crew,[26] Luffy went into the Marine Base and caught Morgan's wrath.[27] After witnessing Zoro's...

...Chapter 1 Case Study: Harmonix Embrace Your Inner Rock Star Little more than three years ago, you had probably never heard of Harmonix. In 2005, the video game design studio released Guitar Hero, which subsequently became the fastest video game in history to top $1 billion in North American sales. The game concept focuses around a plastic guitar-shaped controller. Players press colored buttons along the guitar neck to match a series of dots that scroll down the TV in time with music from a famous rock tune, such as the Ramones’ “I Wanna Be Sedated” and Deep Purple’s “Smoke on the Water.” Players score points based on their accuracy. In November 2007, Harmonix released Rock Band, adding drums, vocals, and bass guitar options to the game. Rock Band has sold over 3.5 million units with a $169 price tag (most video games retail at $50 to $60). In 2006, Harmonix’s founders sold the company to Viacom for $175 million, maintaining their operational autonomy while providing them greater budgets for product development and licensing music for their games. Harmonix’s success, however, did not come overnight. The company was originally founded by Alex Rigopulos and Eran Egozy in 1995, focused around some demo software they had created in grad school and a company vision of providing a way for people without much musical training or talent to experience the joy of playing and creating music. The founders believed that if people had the opportunity to create their own music, they would jump...

Manager

...Learning with Cases INTRODUCTION The case study method of teaching used in management education is quite different from most of the methods of teaching used at the school and undergraduate course levels. Unlike traditional lecture-based teaching where student participation in the classroom is minimal, the case method is an active learning method, which requires participation and involvement from the student in the classroom. For students who have been exposed only to the traditional teaching methods, this calls for a major change in their approach to learning. This introduction is intended to provide students with some basic information about the case method, and guidelines about what they must do to gain the maximum benefit from the method. We begin by taking a brief look at what case studies are, and how they are used in the classroom. Then we discuss what the student needs to do to prepare for a class, and what she can expect during the case discussion. We also explain how student performance is evaluated in a case study based course. Finally, we describe the benefits a student of management can expect to gain through the use of the case method. WHAT IS A CASE STUDY? There is no universally accepted definition for a case study, and the case method means different things to different people. Consequently, all case studies are not structured similarly, and variations abound in terms of style, structure and approach. Case material ranges from small caselets (a few paragraphs...
