Introduction Organized Crime can be categorized as a transnational, national or among local groupings, of enterprises or organizations highly centralized and run by criminals. They are themed by engagement of illegal activity with the purpose of making money and profit. Not all organized crime systems are monetarily motivated, some of these systems purely operate with a political purpose driving their mandate or their very existence. Terrorist organizations, for example fit this caliber. These criminal organizations force people to do business with them i.e. a gang extorting small businesses for money so as to offer them ‘protection’. ‘Organized’ would be the term to describe these syndicates for these gangs, mobs and organizations are mostly disciplined with high levels of professionalism and expertise. These systems cannot be categorized with your average crime operations. However, this paper is faced with the problem of undertaking a philosophical examination of the named group. This, the paper does, using the critical-evaluative method by considering their history, aims and activities. Upon this examination, this work discovers that, among other relevant theories, this rebel group seems to be operating on the Transcendental Idealism of Immanuel Kant which states that ‘only ideas in the mind exist,’ though one cannot absolutely arrive at it. This theory follows from the militants’ idea of Muhammad’s prophecy that ‘there will be a time when the whole world will be subjected under a ‘caliphate,’ with a ‘caliph’ as their head. Nevertheless, in the end, this treatise highlights that the solution to ISIS’s crisis is mental and intellectual re-formation. In such-wise, this work adequately recommends an urgent mental re-configuration founded on re-interpretation of the Quran among these Islamic extremists, which fundamentally, is the task of philosophy to rationally and critically accomplish. 2. ...The Role of Public Participation in Organic Waste Management A Case Study of Abuja, Nigeria ABSTRACT Environmental management issues continue to pose greater challenges to various regions across the globe. The municipality of Abuja suffers from low level of public participation in engaging in organic waste management as one of the main ways of achieving environmental sanitation. In a bid to identify ways of enhancing public participation in organic waste management, the study used qualitative primary research, which involved interviewing 57 members of the public through questionnaires. The participants were picked on a simple random basis. From the results the study established that there has been a low level participation amongst the members of the public in organic waste management. The low participation results from some specific obstacles or factors inhibiting the same. Amongst the obstacles identified include lack of adequate funding, insufficient resources, lack of information, ineffective policies and regulation framework, and lack of awareness as some of the obstacles that have inhibited public participation in organic waste management. As a result, the study provides specific recommendations on how to enhance public participation in organic waste management as one of the ways of promoting environmental sanitation.
