Even though pandas started out endangered they started to bounce back with the help of the nature preserves and breeding programs. In 1988 they estimated 1,114 would survive. But they were wrong because there are 1,800 pandas now due to the breeding program and the new preserves. Pandas are recovering mostly because of the Chinese government protection of their habitat. They established 67 nature preserves. Also, they are breeding pandas in captivity in America and China. The program relies on genetic diversity. Bao bao won't be lonely in the Chinese jungles because pandas are a solitary species. That means
