I am reading To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee and I am on page 43. This story is about a few kids trying to meet Boo Radley and get him to come out of his house. In this journal, I will be predicting and characterizing.
I predict the kids will not meet Boo Radley. Boo has been locked away for so long what would make him come out now? The door to the Radley household has been shut for 15 years and counting. After they closed their door to the public, Boo has not been seen or heard of. Some people think that Mr. Radley is using some type of intimidation on Boo to keep him quiet and locked away in the house. Jem guesses that his dad chains him to his bed and that’s where Boo spends most of his time locked in the house. In order for the kids to meet Boo Radley he has to come out of the house and the kids have to come face to face with him, but I think they will be too afraid to do that. For one thing, when Dill would go gaze and wonder about the Radley’s he would get drawn no closer than the light-pole at the corner of the road from the gate that leads to their house. Dill was fascinated by the Radley’s Place, the house was dark and dirty, and the yard dried and gray. The backyard of the Radley’s leads into the schoolyard, separated by a few pecan trees. As a school kid you don’t go anywhere near a Radley pecan because it will kill you. Along with, if you hit or throw a baseball into Boo’s backyard, you can count on not getting it back because nobody dares to go into that yard. Now, nobody would go into the yard to retrieve something but Dill dared Jem to go slap the house and try to get Boo to come out. Jem was afraid, pacing back and forth questioning if he should go through with this.
