Universal Design is an important concept that moves beyond ADA regulations to emphasize ethics and values in attitudes, behaviors, and institutional structures. ADA compliancy is not enough, especially in one area of a building. Universal Design does not have to be expensive; some fixes are simple and easy. Additionally, an art museum can offer a blind person an equally rewarding experience that someone without a visual impairment may have; it just takes a little Universal Design. A lot of what the Americans with Disabilities Act accomplished is now taken for granted as the standard and it is forgotten that the world was, not that long ago, a very different place. There is a portable ramp that can be placed to make the bathroom accessible to those with assistive devices. I will now discuss the negatives and give my recommendations that I would offer Honsberger Estate to make it more accessible to persons with all abilities. Unfortunately, the Bistro menu would not be easy to read for those who are visually impaired or blind. The font is small, not available in larger print and also not available in brail. I understand that this is a privately owned small restaurant and it may not be able to afford/ create brail menu for its blind customers. However, a larger fonted menu could be easily typed and printed for those who cannot read small writing. Having both a large font or brail menu would be the ideal case. If neither of these options are possible, ensure that the staff know the menu well and be able to recite the menu to the customer with the visual impairment. In regards to the parking lot, at least one designated accessible parking spot should be implemented. Even though the parking lot is very spacious and parking spaces are available beside the entrance, another car could occupy the space who does not have an individual with an impairment. This movie directed by the Hughes Brothers, shows a clear and accurate depiction of the power of the Bible in broken times. The Book of Eli is not your average post-apocalyptic film. From the melodic soundtrack, to the astonishing performance delivered by Denzel Washington, “The Book of Eli” is certainly a must watch! The Plot of the movie is carefully crafted, and it is easy to tell that the directors and producers all took their time before putting together this intricate plot. “The Book of Eli” takes place several years after a nuclear holocaust. The lone man named Eli (played by Denzel Washington) wanders the desert nuclear wasteland, living on what he can find and disposing of any marauders who give him any problems.
