Case Brief

...Case brief of Malaysia case To make the case brief it is necessary to divide our analysis in 5 phases: • Situation • Questions • Hypothesis • Proof and action • Alternatives 1) Situation Government of Malaysia is in front of big challenges, prime-minister is going to have very important meeting, where will be held discussion about future of the country. Malaysia developed its economy by exporting timber, and this caused destruction of local nature, which was a serious threaten for global world. So government should decide how to respond to the western environmentalists, as they were threatening they would make an important restrictions against Malaysia. 2) Questions The important questions which may appear around this case are following: 1) What is the basic motive for western environmentalists? (Are they really interested with condition of the world or just lobbing their countries?) 2) Are there other substitutes for Malaysia, which can replace the export of timber? And also important question is, that how the restrictions of environmentalists will hurt the economy of Malaysia? 3) Hypothesis By foreseeing socio-economical situation of Malaysia, we can make an appropriate hypothesis. Export is very important for every country, especially for the developing countries. And in Malaysia the export of timber is the greatest part of whole export. In spite of this, Malaysia is trying to shorten the export of timber as raw materials, and they try to encourage local industries...

The Brief Wondrous Life Summary

...In Juanto Diaz book The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao the story of the book jumped from different country's to different time lines. Oscar Wao and his family line lives is what the book is manly centered about. It took place in either Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic or in Paterson, New Jersey which have different effects on the story and how it's going. In Paterson, New Jersey it has a more of  laid back type of feel to it compared to a more scary and violent Santo Domingo. In Santo Domingo it was a time where Rafael Trujillo was the dictator that would have you killed if said anything about him. People lived in fear and constantly watching who they interacted with because if you were see with the wrong crowd its night night for you. Oscars mother grew up...

The Brief Wondrous Life Of Oscar Wao Summary

...Jessie Sisavat Professor Duarte Hispanic USA 04/13/15 Book Review The novel of The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao was about a Dominican child who is addicted with pretend fictions, imaginary stories, romance and curses that have been hunting his family for many generations. The book is based upon the story-telling of identity, governmental oppression and being able to handle the masculinity pressure as a Dominican. The statement that Diaz made about “You can’t tell the history of the U.S without the history of the Dominican Republic” gives a sense of pride being a Dominican. The reason for this is based on the experiences of the crucial reality of being controlled by a dictator. In the early years of Trujillo, he was trained in the United States marine and was elevated to commander or general. I think Diaz sees it has a disgrace how the United States trained a monster such as Trujillo that it is considered a disgrace in his eyes. It looks like Diaz does follow the Americanization aspect however he doesn’t want to admit he is portrayed as a Dominican- American....

Summary: The Brief Wondrous Life Of Oscar Wao

...The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz is about a coming of age Dominican boy who often struggles with his own identity. Throughout the novel, he begins to realize what he needs in order to be happy with himself. This also goes with his sister who manages to escape the traditions and learn to live on her own. Yunior being the narrator of the novel, shows how much can be interpreted by knowing each and everyone's story, including his. His daily struggles increase more as he gets older and moves away from home. Culture hybridity and gender roles are shown within the characters of Oscar, Yunior, and Lola. This novel bounces back and forth from the Dominican Republic and New Jersey which establishes a Dominican American culture. It is shown within each character how being in a Dominican American culture affects them both mentally and physically. Oscar, an overweight nerd does not have the option to feel as Dominican as he wants, when he is at school, he constantly gets bullied for not fitting the stereotypical Dominican man, “The white kids looked at his black skin and his afro and treated him with inhuman cheeriness. The kids of color, upon hearing him speak and seeing him move his body, shook their heads. You’re not Dominican. And he said, over and over again, But I am. Soy dominicano. Dominicano soy.”(p. 49) When his...

but the urge to serve others at whatever cost”

(Arthur Ashe). In Junot Díaz’s novel The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, Oscar de León, the novel’s tragic hero and helpless romantic, trudges through life as an atypical Dominican—“he wasn’t no home-run hitter or a fly bachatero, not a playboy with a million hots on his jock” (Díaz 11)—until he, contentiously, is the first to beat Rafael Leónidas Trujillo Molina’s fukú americanus. Two distinctly different caricatures of the true hero have been drawn by society, each sanctified by Hollywood films in its own right: the “superhero” who retains esoteric powers and uses these for the...

Underwear Tort Case

...Unreasonably Dangerous Underwear Dangerous product? A large guy (280-90 pounds) ironically won a one-week trip to Hawaii as a reward for selling more than $20,000 in diet products. But in a lawsuit against Hanes, the underwear maker, he alleged his “dream trip” went awry due to allegedly defective briefs which “gaped open and acted like a sand belt on my privates,” causing injury. We’ll let the court elaborate on this interesting products liability case: Plaintiff testified that by the second day in Hawaii he was in debilitating pain. However, … he ignored the pain until he returned to Pensacola two weeks later. He explained he was able to ignore the pain because he was enjoying himself so much on this long anticipated vacation that he did not dwell on or focus on the pain to any degree. Plaintiff testified he believed sand that he picked up in his swim trunks while enjoying the Hawaiian surf had irritated his penis. Over the next few days he and his wife “walked all over the place” until his condition worsened to the point that he “could hardly walk.” Plaintiff testified his inability to walk was caused by defendant’s defective manufacturing of his underwear which caused his “fly” to gap open. The gap resulted in his penis protruding from his underwear, whereupon the edges of the opening abraded his penis like “sandpaper belts.” … Under cross examination plaintiff admitted he never examined his penis to assess the problem and/or treat the problem. He testified he is a...
