Prior to the Grand Opening, there are countless tasks that must be accomplished by a business. The greatest item that must be completed is the planning. When a business spends a great deal of time and effort towards forming a strategic plan, their odds of surviving in the real world are hopeful. My fictional business idea is a Crossfit gym that provides a tremendous workout to people of all ages while focusing on younger kids and older adults. Crossfit is a fitness company founded in 2000 and is much different from most gyms. According to Thurmond (2009), “The prescription for CrossFit calls for three things: constant variation, high intensity and functional movement. By switching up your regular fitness routine, you keep your body constantly guessing the next move. In short, it's the cure for the common workout”. A Crossfit gym involves a great deal of cardio workouts and weight lifting, in a very competitive, yet friendly, atmosphere. Crossfit workouts can be extremely intense, but each workout can bea altered to fit the needs of each person. Whether it is starting at a low weight load, or using bands to be able to do certain workouts, Crossfit can be well-suited for any individual and does not discriminate against gender, age, or skin color.
The gym will be known as Crossfit for All and will focus on bringing families closer through Crossfit. Crossfit allows people to be the best they can be in terms of fitness. Different from a regular Crossfit gym, our audience is adults who are very young or older and have a not been introduced to an active lifestyle or have a hard time being active. The membership fee for a standard gym is around $30 a month. At most Crossfit gyms, the membership starts at about $100 a month and sky rockets from there. At Crossfit for All, we offer monthly memberships starting at $50 per person. However, we offer incentives for families to sign up together. Two people can join Crossfit for All for $75 a month and three people can come join the fun for $100 a month. The first person in each family is $50 and each additional person is only $25. The best part about the pricing is that it includes one family activity a month. These activities include going to the zoo, walking around a local museum, or going on an adventurous hike. While doing the activities mentioned may not seem like a strong workout, it is enough to get families on their feet and spend time with one another. We are able to offer low pricing because many businesses in our community have volunteered to make donations that support the effort.
Our Mission
A mission statement represents a business’s philosophy. At Crossfit for All, we aim to enhance the quality of living with the help from our inspirational Crossfit trainers at a reasonable price. Our mission is to introduce Crossfit into the lives of community members and help them see why Crossfit is not only a workout, but a lifestyle.
Our Future Vision
The vision statement answers the question, “Where do you want your business in the future”. AADE is a business that focuses on caring for people with diabetes and other chronic illnesses. Their vision is, “Optimal health and wellness for all people with diabetes and related chronic conditions” ("Mission statement," 2012). This statement is the overall goal for AADE and was essentially their purpose for creating a business. At Crossfit for All, our vision is to create a healthy lifestyle for community members. As people reach a certain part in their life, they are prone for certain illnesses or diseases. The likelihood of obtaining many of these ailments is highly increased when an individual is unhealthy. Likewise, when children have lived their life without sports or athletics, they can quickly be brought into an unhealthy lifestyle. When you are not introduced to something early on you are not familiar with it and do not see the need to later on. Being active is one of these things. Many children and teenagers in today’s culture would much rather spend an hour watching television than an hour riding bikes with friends. It is our social responsibility to increase the chance of people living a long, healthy, happy life. We want people in our community to choose to take part in a family activity instead of sitting in silence for hours while everyone plays on his or her personal tablets. We want to develop a healthy lifestyle for community members because when you feel healthy, you live better. A key value for many American’s is accomplishment and we aim to help people in our culture accomplish their fitness goals.
Crossfit for All takes pride in helping older adults gain back their back. As people get older, they are unable to do many of the things they were once able to do. There are many people in the 50s and 60s who have grandkids but are unable to do many activities together. As Crossfit for All, we want to help these people improve their strength and cardio so they can enjoy the simple pleasures of life like they once could. Our primary goal is to bring families together through fitness.
Company Values Our main value is to serve our community. The greatest part of a community is the families that exist within the community. We want to ensure our families are not being held back because of their health. Our customers’ needs are to live a healthy lifestyle and we formed our business because of the value we see in this need. Crossfit for All employees work for each customer. Our team demonstrates ethics that support the company’s values and work to uphold them daily. Crossfit for All can easily gain competitive advantage and be more profitable than competitors because of its strong belief in the values we have. Mak (2013) states, “CrossFit runs a web of thousands of loosely controlled affiliate gyms that are independently owned and operated. Affiliates are charged an annual fee, as opposed to paying a cut of their profits as traditional franchises do, but they also control how their operations run, like their hours and prices. Further, the organization's staff is scattered across the country, with offices in San Diego; Santa Cruz, Calif.; Arizona and Washington, D.C”. Each gym owner chooses the amount he or she charges, and business owners want to profit as much as possible. Making a huge profit is not our goal. Crossfit for All is less expensive than most Crossfit gyms, which will attract more customers. This gym also offers discounts for families who sign up together and monthly activities that bring families closer together. The unbeatable pricing and extraordinary family outings allow Crossfit for All to easily gain competitive advantage in the fitness business.
Conclusion
Before the business was started, we asked ourselves what our goal. We easily came to the conclusion that our goal was to better our community by promoting a healthy lifestyle while demonstrating the importance of family. Crossfit for all values the community it serves and aims for success. The future our Crossfit for All includes countless families in our community coming together at our gym. In addition to this, we strive to set younger adults on the track to live a healthy lifestyle and hope to provide older adults with the opportunity to not let their fitness hold them back.
