What do you think of this research suggestion?
I believe that the research suggestion is a little vague. There could have been a lot of reasons as to why the sales of beef went down. Sale of beef could be down due to the fear of E coli which is one way of think, or maybe people in the area just wanted to eat better or healthier. That could have also affected the sale of beef. Sales could have also dwindled due cheaper prices in fish, chicken and tofu or waitress not recommending beef, which might have led people to cut down on their consumption of beef products. I think that the manager jumped to an early conclusion when there might have been several other factors that contributed to the reduction in sales. As it is stated in the text, business research is a systematic inquiry that provides information to guide managerial decisions (Cooper, & Schindler, 2011). More planning, acquiring, analyzing, and disseminating of data should have been done first.
How, if at all, could you improve on your boss’s formulating of the research question?
In order to improve my bosses’ formulation two things could have been done. One is to create a model and the second is to do a survey asking customers why they are buying less beer products. As stated in our text, a model purpose is to increase our understanding, prediction, and control of the complexities of the environment (Cooper &Schindler, 2011). With these in place, the manager would have been able to have a stronger and more accurate research questin.

...Discussion Questions Timothy Vallin BUS 642 Business Research Methods & Tools Instructor: Donald Platine August 19, 2012 Discussion Questions 1. What is business research? Business research is a systematic inquiry that provides information to guide managerial decisions. It is also a process of planning, acquiring, analyzing, and disseminating relevant data, information, and insights to decision makers in ways that mobilize the organization to take appropriate actions that, in turn, maximize performance (Cooper & Schindler, 2011). Why should there be any questions about the definition of research? There is a variety of a different type of research projects grouped under the label “business research”. The definition of research is not a simple standard that is the same for every individual. It is based on the person that is conducting the research. It has to be defined so that everyone understands what they are doing when they hear the word research. This is due to it having such a broad definition with many different meanings. 2. What is the difference between applied research and basic or pure research? Applied research has a practical problem-solving emphasis. Pure research or basic research aims to solve perplexing questions or obtain new knowledge of an experimental or theoretical nature that has little direct or immediate impact on action, performance, or policy decisions. Even though both forms of research are problem-solving based, applied...

In order to get a background which will help when developing the new system, your supervisor asked you to research the current Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS) currently used by the company. You must research the system components and report back to your supervisor , the Telecommunications Manager, within a week. 1. Describe a local land line phone system based on the following Landline Telephone Components: a. Local Loop a local loop is the wired connection from a telephone company's central office in a locality to its customers' telephones at homes and businesses. This connection is usually on a pair of copper wires called twisted pair. The system was originally designed for voice transmission only using analog transmission technology on a single voice channel. Today, your computer's modem makes the conversion between analog signals and digital signals. With Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) or Digital Subscriber Line (DSL), the local loop can carry digital signals directly and at a much higher bandwidth than they do for voice only. b. How would you run the percentages? a) Age and consumption of breakfast cereal. Here I would use cross tabulation because there are two variables and start by listing age in the left most column. Each row would represent every age concerned, and then the following columns would be the amount or type of cereal consumed depending on what the question desired. b) Family income and confidence about the family’s future. Again I would use cross tabulation here, I would list in the left-most columns different income ranges and each row would be realistic of different family incomes. From there, each subsequent column would list a percentage relating whether those in that income bracket felt confident from a scale of 1 to 5. c) Marital status and sports participation. Here I would use cross tabulation to list two rows, married and unmarried. Then each column would represent a sport and a percentage of how many people participated in that sport. The last column would be marked as no sports for those that do not play sports at all. d) Crime rate and unemployment rate. I would use cross tabulation here and list a number of crime rates or crime rate ranges on...

Jones February 11, 2013 BUS: 642 Thomas Hennefer Abstract Blockbuster video, the once dominant force behind consumers’ movie rental needs has suffered a significant loss in revenue to the rise of RedBox and Netflix. The competitive advantage offered by the two companies has tapped into Blockbuster’s market and cause a lack of blockbuster for the company. In 2010 the company filed bankruptcy and has since then implemented new services and products similar to its competitors, however, customer’s still prefer RedBox and/or Netflix. You come up on a big blue sign with yellow lettering, and think, “I’LL RUN TO BLOCKBUSTER!” Today, we’re looking for the nearest RedBox, or browsing Netflix for a good flick. There was time when families would take a trip to Blockbuster, order a pizza, and make it a movie night. After a routine run to Wal-Mart, Walgreens, or Kroger’s it has become second nature to browse the RedBox, especially since the cost is only $1. But what has happened to good ol’ Blockbuster? Sleep hygiene education, motivational interviewing and cognitive behaviour therapy for insomnia in an Australian high school setting Type Journal Article Author Neralie Cain Abstract Cognitive behaviour therapy for insomnia is well-regarded as an effective treatment for insomnia in adults. Previous studies also suggest that CBT-i can be successfully applied to adolescents experiencing insomnia and other sleep problems, which most commonly involve delayed sleep timing. The recommended treatment involves a combined program of morning bright light therapy, stimulus control therapy, and education about sleep hygiene. Improving sleep pattern regularity by getting up earlier on weekends (i.e., at a time closer to the weekday wake-up time) can play a particularly important role in increasing total sleep time during the week and decreasing daytime sleepiness.
