Curriculum Vitae is Latin, literally meaning “the course of one’s life”. A CV sets out one’s personal details, education, qualification and working experience submitted against any advertised or announced vacancies along with a job application letter called ‘cover letter’ so that every details can be found at a glance.

Murphy & Hildebrandt defined “Curriculum Vitae is a document labeling one’s qualification and career path”.

Bovee, Thill & Schatznan “A resume is a structured, written summary of person’s educations, employment background and job qualification”.

So, CV or resumes literally is a specific written document that proxies an applicant to answer all queries sought by an employer.

Features / Characteristics / Qualities of a good CV
A successful Curriculum Vitae stimulates the employer to think positively about the competency of the applicant. The following are the major criteria’s for a CV to become a good CV:
1. Precise Format: The information presented in the CV must be arranged according to the announced vacancy. Otherwise the advocacy and the appeal can be down rated no matter whether it is written in chronological or functional format or combination of both. Ill formatted CV are left behind while scrutiny.
2. Honesty: Inclusion of exaggeration, fake or tailored information always acts against the applicants. Truthful presentation often overcomes other lacking.
3. Clear: A clearly composed CV indicates the applicant to be focused at him aim. Good CV possesses neat, clean and attractive writing or typing on quality paper with standard margins followed by exact format.
4. Updated information: The applicant must place himself with updated information. Out dated information is considered as major offense.
5. Trait Advocacy: CV advocates on behalf of the applicant equipped with all the professional qualities or traits, sought for the announced vacancy.
6. Full disclosure: Career objective, educational background, work experience, additional qualities, training, achievement, personal information, references should be in detailed for evaluating the competence of the applicant.
