The variable, COLGPA will be used as the explanatory (or dependent) variable. This variable asks the student what their overall college grade point average is on a 4.00 grading scale.
We expect the coefficient of hsgrade to be positive. If your high school grade was higher, you will have a higher GPA, ceteris paribus. We think this is true because if you did well in high school, it projects good work ethic, which is likely for one to carry along with him or her over to college.
The happy variable asks the person how often you felt happy in past one week. We expect the coefficient of happy to be positive. This is because the more often of happy you have, the more motivated you will be and the less stress you have, helping you have a clear mind and more focus on studying, which ultimately will increase your GPA, ceteris paribus. The higher the value, the more frequently this person is happy.
The sex variable asks the person, “Are you currently sexually active (that is, have you had vaginal, anal, or oral sex with a partner at least once in the past 30 days)?” We expect the coefficient of sex to be positive. Our theory is that the more sexually active you are, the less stress you will experience, which will help clear your mind and focus on the task at hand. This will increase the likelihood of a higher GPA. The higher the value, the more sexually active the person is.
