MAN-MADE

8/8/2012

Global Warming Fact or Fiction
I. Theory of global warming
A. Is man-made global warming credible or not credible?
1) Evidence
2) Causes and effects

Global warming is a term used to describe an increase over time of the average temperature of the earth’s atmosphere and oceans. Over time it has been arguments of humans are contributing to global warming. It has also been a question if global warming is causing our earth’s climate to change.
Use of the term “global warming” generally implies a human influence. A more neutral term which is climate change is used for a change in climate with no human influence an example could be the “ice age.”
Natural causes are causes created by nature such as a release of methane gas from arctic tundra and the wetlands. Methane is a greenhouse gas and is known to trap heat in the earth’s atmosphere. Another natural cause is that the earth goes through a cycle of climate change and usually lasts about 40,000 years.
Man-made causes are said to do the most damage. There are many man-made causes pollution being the largest man-made problem. Burning fossil fuels is one thing that causes pollution, they are fuels made of organic matter such as coal or oil. When these fossil fuels are burned they give off a green house gas called CO2. Mining coal and oil also allows methane to escape, the methane is naturally in the ground and while mining coal or oil you are digging up this.
Population is also a major man-made cause of global warming. The more populated our earth becomes the more food, fuel and methods of transportation are needed, which in turn causes more pollution. Our modern car culture and appetite for globally sourced goods is responsible for about 33% of emissions in the U.S. The population increasing is increasing the amount of

Social Development

...Play is of an enormous importance in a young child’s life. Through play the child’s social and motor skills develop greatly. Three forms of social play have been identified as parallel play, associative play, and cooperative play (Belkin & Faw, 1980, p. 340). The child starts out at a young age enjoying their play with themselves rather than people (Gibson, J.T., 1978, p. 300). Toddlers then play house with their dolls and stuffed animals. When the child engages human peers instead of toy objects in play this is the start of social play (Gibson, J.T., 1978, p. 300). Through this development comes aspect of parallel play. Here this child may play alongside a fellow peer, but they may be engaging in two completely different activities (Belkin & Faw, 1980, p. 340). Side by side the children play, observing each other and enjoying the fact that they are present with that peer, while not directly interacting with them. At two years of age a child with participate in parallel play (Gibson, J.T., 1978, p. 300). Associative play proceeds parallel play starting at age three. The children play in groups with the same toys as their peers, but each child uses the materials in very different ways (Belkin & Faw, 1980, p. 340). When asking a child engaged in associative play to describe his activity, he often times describes a totally different activity then the other children (Belkin & Faw, 1980, p. 341). A major part of associative play is imitation. A younger...

A debate that global warming is in fact a fiction 2. A debate that global warming is a fact II. Argumentation A. The Melting Glaciers B. Weather that is Difficult to Follow Conclusion/Closing: Global Warming: Fact or Fiction For years the glaciers have been melting and catching people’s attention, this has resulted in the rise of over 6 in. in the sea level where as a hundred years ago it was much lower. This raises the question as to whether global warming is a fact or fiction. Literature on global warming is comprised mostly on intelligent discussion on having "too much caution on global warming" (Nature, 1991) or "global warming is real" (Kerr, 1989, p. 603) rather than fiction. Let me break this down for you people, society is using to much resources and energy in assuring ourselves that global warming is in fact an issue at all. The top debate in favor of global warming being fiction is the lack of scientific evidence connecting the emissions of greenhouse gases as a result of human activity with global warming (Brown, 2010, p. 26). First and for most any connection at all is completely uncertain and there is no proof. Then we also have, people in today’s that say global warming is a fact and say that society, "have caused a number of environment issues, such as global...

Theory of man-made global warming is credible a. Evidence b. Causes c. Effects of global warming 3. Theory of man-made global warming is not credible Global Warming Global warming is a hotly debated theory that states that there is an increase in the earth's average atmospheric temperature (Global Warming). The tedious bickering over if global warming is occurring has stopped with science showing that average temperatures have risen. The argument has now shifted to whether humans are contributing to the warming. Also at debate is whether or not global warming is causing Earth’s climate to change. Both sides of the debate attempt to use science and logic to support their viewpoints. Proponents to the belief that humans are causing global warming attribute the earth’s temperature rise to emissions/pollutants that collect in the atmosphere, trapping the sun's heat and causing the planet to warm up (Global Warming Basics). .The science behind global warming is simple. Global temperatures have shown a temperature increase over the last 100 years, with a very steep increase in the last three decades. Likewise, NASA has shown the average United States temperatures have increased steadily over the same time period. Other scientists and science organization...

...King Leonidus It was a warm August day in the year 480 B.C, when I went out to meet Xerxes' legion at Thermopylae. My force consisted of 7,000 Greek men, which was nothing at all compared to the 200,000 Persians that awaited us on our path. My Spartans and I marched on the front lines toward the fight hoping that we would spark the spirits of our Greek allies by knowing they had the battle-hardened Spartans leading them. As we marched into the pass, our eyes perceived the Persian immortals, these soldiers were Persia's exclusive fighting force and they feared nothing. They wore a type of formidable mask which was all white with obsidian indentations where their eyes were supposed to be. We formed a tenacious line with our spears pointed out in front of our shields and the rocky pass covering both of our sides. We sat there in our imperishable pack waiting for the immortals to start their advance, we knew if we broke our formation it would create an inadequate spot in our line which could be penetrated and eventually over ran by the immortals. Every man was ready for this day, our Spartans were bred for war, it's all they had ever known, and now they would get to show the true meaning of what it is to be a Spartan. The immortals grew impatient and started in a full sprint at our front lines, as they came closer I gave the order for my men to hold out their spears and stand their ground at all costs. The first wave of immortals were cut down by our lengthy spears without any...

300 Review

...Tyler Faldet Extra Credit: Film Review Assignment Professor Debauche 11/12/2012 300 Review Over the weekend I happened to rent a few movies to watch with friends at my home back in Iola Wisconsin. I also had hopes that one of them would give me a lot of information, along with motivation, to write a review on using the different concepts that we have talked about in class. So way back in 2007 the American film 300, directed by Zack Snyder, and staring popular film stars such as Gerald Butler, and Lena Headey, brought millions and millions of mainly young and old men to the theaters. I personally remembered when it came out because everyone at school was talking about how amazing it was and quoting some of the lines from the film. And even with its popularity, I never did get the opportunity to watch the film, until this weekend. The General Plot of the movie is narrated by a Spartan soldier Dillios, who narrates the story from king leonidas's boy hood through the sacrifice of the 300 Greek Spartan soldiers, which sparked the war against the advancing Persian "immortals". Previous knowledge of the movie from what I had heard from others who had seen it was that it is a war movie based on a true Greek story many hundreds of years ago. Soon into the movie I realized it was completely different from what I had envisioned it would be in my mind going in. This difference was definitely for the better and my expectations were completely blown away. The whole style of...

300 Summary

...I gave a four-star rating to "Sin City," the 2005 film based on a graphic novel by Frank Miller. Now, as I deserve, I get "300," based on another work by Miller. Of the earlier film, I wrote prophetically: "This isn't an adaptation of a comic book, it's like a comic book brought to life and pumped with steroids." They must have been buying steroids wholesale for "300." Every single male character, including the hunchback, has the muscles of a finalist for Mr. Universe. Both films are faithful to Miller's plots and drawings. "300," I learn, reflects the book almost panel-by-panel. They lean so heavily on CGI that many shots are entirely computer-created. Why did I like the first, and dislike the second? Perhaps because of the subject matter, always a good place to start. "Sin City," directed by Robert Rodriguez and Miller, is film noir, my favorite genre, taken to the extreme. "300," directed by Zack Snyder, is ancient carnage, my least favorite genre, taken beyond the extreme. "Sin City" has vividly- conceived characters and stylized dialogue. "300" has one-dimensional caricatures who talk like professional wrestlers plugging their next feud. The movie involves a legendary last stand by 300 death-obsessed Spartans against a teeming horde of Persians. So brave and strong are the Spartans that they skewer, eviscerate, behead and otherwise inconvenience tens of thousands of Persians before finally falling to the weight of overwhelming numbers. The lesson is that the Spartans...

300 Spartans Movie

...n light of Frank Miller's latest sensible novel, Xerxes and told in the staggering visual style of the blockbuster "300," this new section of the epic saga makes the move to another battle zone on the sea as Greek general Themistokles (Sullivan Stapleton) tries to unite all of Greece by driving the charge that will change the course of the war. It pits Themistokles against the monstrous striking Persian powers drove by mortal-turned-god Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro), and Artemisia (Eva Green), wild force of the Persian oceanic force. After its triumph over Leonidas' 300, the Persian Army beneath the command of Xerxes walks towards the major city-states of Greek. The Democratic city of Athens, first on the method for Xerxes' furnished power, manufactures its quality regarding its naval force, drove by maritime officer Themistocles. Themistocles is urged to an unwilling association together with the customary rival of Athens, oligarchic Sparta who may live with its overwhelming infantry troops. However Xerxes still guidelines overwhelming in numbers over sea and range. While coming to the historical accuracy of this movie, we be clear of one thing right from the saying go: this is not in any helpful sense an authentic film.
