Running Head: EVALUATING THEORY 7
C-BaC Model Evaluation

The criterion-based critique model (C-BaC) was designed to assist in the identification of connections between nursing practice and various theories. The design of C-BaC is to utilize eight standards (or criteria) to help you make judgements about the value and use of a theory (Johnson & Webber, 2010).

This paper will view the theory of self-transcendence using the C-BaC model. Pamela Reed’s Theory of Self-Transcendence focuses on enhancing well-being of the whole person in the context of health experiences by means of self transcendence(Parker & Smith, 2010).

Phase One

The Meaning is Clear and Understandable: The theory of self-transcendence was originally aimed at addressing phenomena related to the aging process of the older adult and was later expanded to address well-being across the entire lifespan. Reed’s theory proposes that when people face life-threatening illness or undergo health related disruptions that illuminates one’s limitations the potential to expand (or transcend) self-boundaries becomes evident enhance well-being (Parker & Smith, 2010). The theory of self-transcendence aligns with contemporaries such as Martha Rogers because of the concept of human-beings being an open system requiring interaction with its environment. Reed’s theory is more difficult to understand due to the fact that it was originally proposed to address concerns of the aging and rests its foundation on the ambiguous achievement of passing one’s own self-boundary to improve well-being. My perception of the clarity and understanding is starting to lift.

Boundaries are Consistent with Nursing Practice: The assumption of self-transcendence to enhance one’s well being is a valid argument but fails to incorporate

...CECC Evaluation as We Care Foundation Board Member Susan Miller University Of Phoenix BSHS 451 Program Design and Proposal Writing Linda N. Latham, MFT October 26, 2010 CECC Evaluation as We Care Foundation Board Member We Care Foundation is in receipt of the grant request for the amount of $5,000. Whereas some of the guidelines for such a request have been followed, there are a few areas that need clarification before We Care can submit funds to the organization. The first item needed is a proof of tax-exempt status as a 501(c) (3) organization. According to the grant proposal policy set up by We Care Foundation for all funds proposals, requests cannot be accepted for capital expenditures, tuition, scholarships, fundraising drives, emergency relief, or endowments. In the budget breakdown section of the proposal, we request a more detailed breakdown in the areas of non-personal and educational equipment. As noted on our request guideline we do not fund any capital expenditures and, we need more clarification on these costs before we can accept the proposal. Credibility The credibility of CECC is also a question that needs to be answered with more clarification. CECC has been around for six years and that is quite an accomplishment. However, are there any other awards or recognitions that CECC may have received after the award from CDBG in 1994? The type of service provided by CECC correlates...

Training Needs

...employees are not performing up to a certain standard or at an expected level of performance. The difference between actual the actual level of job performance and the expected level of job performance indicates a need for training. A training analysis is conducted ultimately to identify what areas of knowledge or behaviors that training needs to accomplish with learners. The analysis considers what results the organization needs from the learner, what knowledge and skills the learner presently has and usually concludes with identifying what knowledge and skills the learner must gain. Usually this phase also includes identifying when training should occur and who should attend as learners. Ideally, criteria are established for the final evaluation of training to conclude if training goals were met or not. Depending on the resources and needs of the organization, a training analysis can range from a very detailed inventory of skills to a general review of performance results. The more complete the training analysis, the more likely that the employee's training will ultimately contribute results to the organization. Taking a Patients History

...Stephen Craig. In this article, Lloyd and Craig provide an overview of taking a patient’s history related to nursing. There are certain questions that should be asked and this article outlines what to ask and how to ask it. This article also provides a great overview of cardinal symptoms for each system in the body and several methods for taking a comprehensive history. Summary Taking a successful history includes preparing the environment and effective communication skills. This is “arguably the most important part of patient assessment” (Lloyd & Craig, 2007, p. 42). In the process, patients are able to present vital information about their problem in their own words. To explore a decline in a patient’s health requires a very careful evaluation of patient needs. Allowing adequate time is essential to complete the history and avoid receiving incomplete information. The environment should be assessed first for the safety of both the patient and nurse, have no distractions, be quiet, have the right equipment and be conducted in a private setting in order to maintain patient confidentiality. Cultural consideration is important to taking the history. The assessment must be conducted with respect for the patient, an approach that requires that the patient’s beliefs and values be considered, the nurse avoid being judgmental, and remain professional. It is also very important to assess health beliefs and practices since a person’s perceptions about health and illness are greatly...

Let Task 4

...LET Task 4 A: The evaluation criteria used by the firm is fundamentally flawed in several regards. Among these are the fact that the rating scales focus on traits that have very little to do with the pertinent job skills. A quality evaluation should be able to offer specific and meaningful feedback. When a person being evaluated is being overseen by a person with little to no personal expertise in that employees field challenges and perceived inability to properly evaluate can arise. In a situation like this a supervisor would be well advised to involve the employee in setting specific measurable benchmarks that a supervisor outside of that skill set can effectively monitor. While it can be beneficial to get input from an employee’s colleagues this can be a double edged sword. Due to the fact that supervisors are often removed from the day to day goings on colleague input can be a valuable insight and also provide a wider range to develop an unbiased opinion from. This is of course assuming that the information being gathered is accurate. This can be problematic in cases where due to factors such as personality conflict a perfectly competent and productive employee might be unfairly categorized by their fellow co-workers. Great care must be taken in these cases to ferret out bias. B: The benefits of providing common sets of evaluation criteria are fairly straightforward. If the benchmarks against which employees are being measured change frequently or are applied...

Steps to Writing a Grant Proposal

...Steps to Writing a Grant Proposal HSM/270 September 3, 2012 Steps to Writing a Grant Proposal Writing a grant proposal is an important aspect of the human service field. Grant proposals enable new programs to find funding. Grants provide funding to organizations and programs which does not need to be paid back. The money is provided for a specific project and for a certain time frame. In order for an agency to receive funding through a grant they must submit a grant proposal. The first step to writing a grant proposal is to find an organization which has the same mission. The grantor must have a request for funding opportunities published. The organization seeking the funding should then submit an application for a grant proposal. Once the application to submit a grant proposal is submitted and approved the agency will be notified of the deadline in which the grant proposal must be turned in by. The first part of a grant proposal is the abstract. The abstract may range in lengths depending on what information the grantor requires. The abstract provides a summary of the grant proposal and should include a description of the problem or need, target population, the cost of the program, and how the program will be evaluated. This is also where the organization will be introduced and state how the program meets the requirements set by the funding organization. The abstract should be carefully written and contain any key information needed. Many times the abstract is the...
