To be good at a certain field the worker needs to have skills or abilities to be able to carry out their work in an efficient matter, and electricians are not the exception. Pam Moore, author of the article “Career Directions: Electrician”, gives a list of some of the skills that an electrician must have such as, being in good health, have at least average strength, be energetic, be a productive worker, have good critical thinking skills, be able to adapt to different situations, and must not be color blind (30). Are Too Much People Going to College

...Are Too Many People Going to College? By Charles MurrayFrom the Magazine: Monday, September 8, 2008 Filed under: Public Square America’s university system is creating a class-riven nation. There has to be a better way.To ask whether too many people are going to college requires us to think about the importance and nature of a liberal education. “Universities are not intended to teach the knowledge required to fit men for some special mode of gaining their livelihood,” John Stuart Mill told students at the University of St. Andrews in 1867. “Their object is not to make skillful lawyers, or physicians, or engineers, but capable and cultivated human beings.” If this is true (and I agree that it is), why say that too many people are going to college? Surely a mass democracy should encourage as many people as possible to become “capable and cultivated human beings” in Mill’s sense. We should not restrict the availability of a liberal education to a rarefied intellectual elite. More people should be going to college, not fewer.Yes and no. More people should be getting the basics of a liberal education. But for most students, the places to provide those basics are elementary and middle school. E. D. Hirsch Jr. is the indispensable thinker on this topic, beginning with his 1987 bookCultural Literacy: What Every American Needs to Know. Part of his argument involves the importance of a body of core knowledge in fostering reading speed and comprehension. With regard to a liberal education...

The Use of Electricity and Magnetism in Everyday Life

...Jamie Sivertsen Physics 2 Instructor Eugine De Silva March 25, 2012 Project #1 The Use of Electricity and Magnetism in Future Transportation The dependence of our society on electricity is extremely obvious, but
at the same time its easy to forget how dependent we actually are on it. Electricity plays a huge role in modern society that we do not even think about it. We take advantage of all the appliances at home and at the office, all the technologies we use to communicate, all heating, air-conditioning, lighting, and many modes of transportation that use electricity. But they would not if there was no electricity. Electricity plays a huge part in our everyday life and is going to change the future especially when it comes to transportation. The main idea of future of transportation is to reduce emissions and the amount of people in individual vehicles. A major concern is the use of our fossil fuels, and the damaging gasses that are released during the combustion of these fuels in our vehicles. Researchers for years have been coming up with ideas to reduce the carbon footprints of these things. Energy experts and historians of energy agree that as societies advance, they need more and more concentrated, intense forms of energy, like rocket fuel instead of gasoline. Transportation will be pollution-free and versatile. “of the several converging trends for getting around, “ultracapacitors” are being developed for electric cars to completely replace batteries...

...Issue No 59 FILM “Kia ora. My name is Boy and welcome to my interesting world.” With these words Boy invited audiences to watch Taika Waititi’s highly successful comedy/drama. Cinema opens windows into multiple worlds; the study of film provides the tools with which to explore and understand these worlds. For New Zealand actor Sam Neill, a long, lonely road was an essential image in the landscape of New Zealand filmmaking when he co-directed Cinema of Unease in 1996 with filmmaker Judy Rymer. Over the years talented scriptwriters, directors and producers have travelled this road. Today New Zealand cinema has moved far from its uneasy beginnings. It has become an international thoroughfare where the cinemas of the world, including Hollywood and Bollywood, come to tell stories using New Zealand’s production and post-production facilities, employing local actors, crew and other technical staff. The study of Film makes it possible to consider the diversity in New Zealand cinema and in all cinemas of the world. The disciplined approach to studying these cinemas allows students to better understand not only how cinema itself functions, but also how New Zealand cinema contributes to the global cinematic tapestry. play? How do filmmakers contribute to culture and influence societal attitudes? How can other disciplines, such as psychology, help us to better understand film? Middle Class

...I know I’m dating myself by writing this, but I remember the middle class. I grew up in an automaking town in the 1970s, when it was still possible for a high school graduate — or even a high school dropout — to get a job on an assembly line and earn more money than a high school teacher. “I had this student,” my history teacher once told me, “a real chucklehead. Just refused to study. Dropped out of school, a year or so later, he came back to see me. He pointed out the window at a brand-new Camaro and said, ‘That’s my car.’ Meanwhile, I was driving a beat-up station wagon. I think he was an electrician’s assistant or something. He handed light bulbs to an electrician.” In our neighbors’ driveways, in their living rooms, in their backyards, I saw the evidence of prosperity distributed equally among the social classes: speedboats, Corvette Stingrays, waterbeds, snowmobiles, motorcycles, hunting rifles, RVs, CB radios. I’ve always believed that the ’70s are remembered as the Decade That Taste Forgot because they were a time when people without culture or education had the money to not only indulge their passions, but flaunt them in front of the entire nation. It was an era, to use the title of a 1975 sociological study of a Wisconsin tavern, of blue-collar aristocrats. That all began to change in the 1980s. The recession at the beginning of that decade – America’s first Great Recession – was the beginning of the end for the bourgeois proletariat. Steelworkers showed...

Management and Planning

...organization attempts to realize. Goals are important because an organization exists for a purpose, and goals define and state that purpose. Goals specify future ends; plans specify today's means. The word planning incorporates both ideas: It means determining the organization's goals and defining the means for achieving them. Planning allows managers the opportunity to adjust to the environment instead of merely reacting to it. Planning increases the possibility of survival in business by actively anticipating and managing the risks that may occur in the future. In short, planning is preparing for tomorrow, today. It's the activity that allows managers to determine what they want and how they will achieve it. Not only does planning provide direction and a unity of purpose for organizations, it also answers six basic questions in regard to any activity: • • • • What needs to be accomplished? When is the deadline? Where will this be done? Who will be responsible for it? • • How will it get done? How much time, energy, and resources are required to accomplish this goal? 1.2 Planning Process The process of planning includes the determination of what course of actions related to the different aspects of the planning process that need to be taken. These future course of actions are: • why an action - reveals that action has to have objectives or the...
