Career Exploration Reflection Paper
I have learned a good deal about my communication skills throughout this course and by completing the Career Plan Building Activities. My career goal is to be in upper management, preferably in a field that deals with animals, such as an animal hospital manager, veterinary office manager; etcetera. I know I will use what I have learned in this course at some point in my career. Processing excellent communication skills will be vital to my success.
The Career Plan Building Activities made me realize I have strengths in the areas of coping with pressure, delivering result, following instructions, and adapting to change. These strengths will help me to be an excellent leader and encourage employees to do their best to deliver positive results for the company. I will be able to handle any circumstance and make beneficial and effective decisions. I will have to make sure I am thinking critically when evaluating arguments. I know how to recognize fallacies and can judge the validity and credibility of the source.
The activities also help me realize my strengths and weaknesses when it comes to communicating. Communication is the key to any successful business. I know how vital it is to have a clear understanding when communicating. When sending messages, I have to make sure they are able to be decoded and seek feedback to ensure both I, and my receiver are on the same level. I also have to listen and respond to messages sent back to me. By following these simple steps I can prevent valuable time from being wasted.
I know that with achieving my career goals I will have to do presentations. I am aware that this is not one of my strong points. From this course and the activities therein, I have learned several tips that will help me to master

...RESEARCH PAPER TOPICS – BA 453 HRM The primary objective of your paper is to do “research” in a specific area of HRM. Such research requires the formation of a “research question” with a narrow focus to facilitate in-depth exploration and often entails a blend of field and literary research. You can elect to do primarily field or literary research. Some suggested topics are below, but you are encouraged to find one which excites your intellect and/or is relevant to your future business career. FIELD RESEARCH – requires contacting a company or companies, identifying their current HR policy issues or HR concerns, selecting only one, developing a list of interview questions based on a brief review of research in that HR area, and then conducting an interview to explore the matter in depth. It is NOT merely a report of the conversational narrative of the interview. It is a thorough critique with recommendation for improvement. 1. Critique a current HR policy or issue in a specific company and make recommendations for improvement. Examples of policies are: recruiting, hiring, orientation, training, succession planning, career planning, team development, performance review, equal employment opportunity, pay incentives, a specific type of employee benefit or perk, corrective/disciplinary action, OSHA compliance, and safety recognition. 2. Describe a current HR strategy in a specific company and how it enhances their competitive advantage in business. Discuss strengths...

Chapter 3 Selecting and Using Assessments

...CHAPTER 3 SELECTING AND USING ASSESSMENTS Introduction This chapter will address three issues: (a) the institutional assessment needs of workforce development organizations, (b) the assessment needs of individual youth to help make informed choices about their careers, and (c) the practical needs of practitioners for information about how to select and use different assessment tools. At the end of this chapter, Exhibit 3.1 contains information that can be used to help with the selection and use of assessments, including a directory of commonly used published tests. Meeting Institutional Assessment Needs Agencies and organizations in the workforce system use assessments to meet institutional needs in two ways-to determine a youth's eligibility for services and to document achievement of program goals by assessing the progress of program participants. The number of participants served and achievement of program goals can impact the amount of funding an organization receives. Funding for the youth programs considered in this guide may come from the Department of Education, the Department of Labor, other federal agencies, states, local governmental agencies, or a combination of these. Table 1.2 in Chapter 1 summarizes the eligibility and assessment requirements of IDEA, WIA Title I, and the Rehabilitation Act. More specific information on assessments mandated or permitted by several federal funding sources may be found in Appendix A. (Mandated assessments are...

...The Relationship Between the Research Question, Hypotheses, Specific Aims, and Long-Term Goals of the Project Before you begin writing a grant proposal, take some time to map out your research strategy. A good first step is to formulate a research question. A Research Question is a statement that identifies the phenomenon to be studied. For example, “What resources are helpful to new and minority drug abuse researchers?” To develop a strong research question from your ideas, you should ask yourself these things: * Do I know the field and its literature well? * What are the important research questions in my field? * What areas need further exploration? * Could my study fill a gap? Lead to greater understanding? * Has a great deal of research already been conducted in this topic area? * Has this study been done before? If so, is there room for improvement? * Is the timing right for this question to be answered? Is it a hot topic, or is it becoming obsolete? * Would funding sources be interested? * If you are proposing a service program, is the target community interested? * Most importantly, will my study have a significant impact on the field? A strong research idea should pass the “so what” test. Think about the potential impact of the research you are proposing. What is the benefit of answering your research question? Who will it help (and how)? If you cannot make a definitive statement about the purpose of your research...

Nstp Cwts

...the three program components of the National Service Training Program (NSTP) established under Republic Act 9163. CWTS covers programs or activities that will add improvement to the common wellbeing for members of the community or its facilities. It aims to instill among the students: citizenship, volunteerism, and career exploration and development. All students of the University of the Philippines need to complete two semesters of CWTS as a requirement for graduation if the student selected this as his or her choice of NSTP component. The teacher has to inculcate to the students that, being scholars of the country, they have to volunteer their service not only to the people but also to the country. This is to show appreciation for the people’s support for their quality tertiary education. Thus, there is integration of civic and social values in the course. What makes teaching CWTS challenging and exciting is that the teacher incorporates statistics in the volunteer work that the students will do. Hence, the teacher prepares the students to do statistical work needed by the public and makes them aware of the different paths they can take in their respective careers. CWTS in the School of Statistics Each college in the University of the Philippines has a free hand in the implementation of a selected program component of NSTP as long as it follows its program concept. The three program components are Reserve Officer’s Training Corps, Civic Welfare Training Service, and Literacy...

Measuring Impact of Career Stagnation on Job Satisfaction and Turnover Intention.

...)Topic of the project: Measuring whether perceived career stagnation in early career may have impact on factors such as employee motivation, job satisfaction and turnover intention. b.)Scope of the project: In this project we plan to analyse whether professionals in the early stages of the career (work-experience less than 5 years) feel early career stagnation and how it impacts factors like their job motivation, turnover intention, etc. The group also identified following parameters which were possibly affected due to career stagnation: a. Motivation b. Job satisfaction c. Turnover Intention Some mediator factors identified by us which can affect the relationship between career stagnation and identified parameters are: 1. Gender 2. Educational Background 3. Age In the common pyramid-shaped organisations majority of the individuals face a point where hierarchical advancements seem unlikely. In such a situation we say that the employee has hit a career plateau or that his career has stagnated. In some situations although the employee has hit a plateau he/she still continues to do his/her job efficiently with no decrease in output. However , for some employees the career plateau may adversely impact job satisfaction, motivation, willingness to stay in the organisation ,etc. It is the latter case also known as the “deadwoods” who need extra attention from the management and our study focuses on analysing the effects of career stagnation on these three variables. In our research...

...GCSE English Language 2010 Studying Spoken Language The newest and potentially most exciting area of the new GCSE specifications is the Studying Spoken Language section of the Controlled Assessment for GCSE English Language. The focus of this unit is investigative, asking candidates to explore their own spoken language and/or that of others, including perhaps spoken language in media and technologies such as internet messaging services. Sample Controlled Assessment tasks are available online so that you can see the type of tasks that will be set. All of the tasks are fairly open-ended so that you can help individual students tailor their research to suit their interests and the type of data available to them. One of the teachers who has done a trial of the new unit said, ‘the tasks were greeted with enthusiasm and the ability to connect what we were exploring to the wider context. The tasks lead to independent study which meant there was a good deal of ownership for the students.’ 8 Teachers who have trialled the unit have given us some very useful feedback on which we can base further support. One important point is that giving enough time and thought to the initial data collection pays dividends in terms of the level of analysis which students can carry out. The script and commentary on the following pages are examples of the further resources you can see online at http://web.aqa.org.uk/englishLangA These are provided to demonstrate ways...
