...PHARMACY CAREER 1 Pharmacy Careers Daniel F. Bohmer Saint Leo University PHARMACY CAREER 2 Finding a career within the pharmacy profession holds appeal for many reasons: a strong job market, high pay, work equality, divergent career opportunities and favorable working conditions in a profession that consistently ranks at the top in Gallup’s annual poll of most trusted professions. Careers all across the ever-evolving health care industry have seen consistent growth in demand over the last several years, with no projections for slowing down. Pharmacists can look forward to higher than average employment opportunities. The U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), projects a 25% growth in demand through 2020. This increase is attributed to an ageing population, advances in medicine, increased number of people with insurance coverage and the expanding role of pharmacists in patient care. Additionally, pharmacy students have the envious distinction of a nearly 100% job placement in their career field within a year of graduation. Another appealing aspect of the profession is pharmacists enjoy a relatively high median salary. In the most recent statistics published by the BLS, the median wage is nearly $115,000 per year. Earning potential is projected to continue to rise due to the predicted high growth in jobs, without a corresponding increase in the number of graduates entering the profession. When it comes to work equality, careers in pharmacy continue...

Personal Statement: A Career Analysis

My contact with pharmaceutics commenced early, which is because my family owns a non-profit pharmacy where I have worked and volunteered. However, growing up in Bangladesh, a pharmacist was a civilian without any formalized training who owned a pharmacy and sold medication. Hearing about a different concept to pharmacy in 2010, science fair at my university sparked my interest. After that I did a lot of research on this new career and attended open...

My mother is a pharmacist and at the time I looked up to her and she was (and still is) my hero and that was the reason why on the sheet of paper where we wrote what we were going to dress up as, I in my first grade chicken scratch handwriting wrote “farmasist” and showed up to school in a white coat and a bottle full of M&M candies resembling pills. Now so many years later I am hoping to accomplish my ultimate goal of becoming as pharmacist. Don't get me wrong, the path to deciding that Pharmacy is the career for me was not ultimately decided that day on career dress up day. As my senior year approached an ending I decided to take a leap of faith and go to a school 500 hundred miles from my friends and family on a full ride scholarship. Here I realized that if...

...about. The truth is it is never too early to think about your future. I, like many people, put little thought into my future career and now am lost in an unfortunate mix of indecision and anxiety. Not knowing where you want to be in the future is a hard burden to bear. Many of us tend to find out that we only know what we do not want, not what we actually do want. Do we want to be poor? Absolutely not. Do we want a boring job? Of course we don’t. We all want our nice big house, white picket fence, and dog in the backyard. We also want to be happy. These next few paths are ways I might be able to achieve both. I have many different possible interests when it comes to my future. I hope to attend a four year college, and after graduation attend graduate school. Having gone to small schools my entire life, I prefer a small school. I am looking for a school with a tuition under $30,000, but would not rule out schools that aren’t significantly over my budget. I am open to the thoughts of leaving home, yet I am not sure I would survive on my own. None of preferences are set in stone and I am willing to try and consider new possibilities. When it comes to careers and majors, I have considered becoming a pediatrician, orthodontist, pharmacist, or being an english major. After researching all of my options, I became even more interested in pharmacy. A pharmacist helps in the treatment of disease.
