Title of Paper

Cartoon Violence Many forms of art exist all around the world, such as paintings, sculptures, music, and videos. Art influences people and communities in many ways including the types of legal and moral issues involving art and its targeted audience. One form of art in particular is cartoons. Many types of cartoons are available like animated people, animated animals, and cartoons just for children and even cartoons for adults, which are mostly referred to as anime. Adult cartoons are usually extremely violent or contain high sexual content. Many issues involving violence in cartoons are unnoticeable such as desensitizing children, increasing their aggressiveness, and decreasing their fear of becoming victims in real life. All children are influenced by what they see in their daily television shows and when these happen to be violent cartoons they become negatively affected. Cartoons are presented to children with colorful and goofy characters but many of these shows have a lot of violence portrayed in them. Young children do not understand the morals and ethical issues in these cartoons and are unable to depict what is reality and what is fantasy. Of course, it is fantasy but when children are unable to distinguish the difference between the two they may try to carry out an act they have seen while viewing the show because they found it humorous and entertaining. For example, a child being violent at school thinking it is okay to beat up a classmate over a girl when that child has been watching too much Popeye. This cartoon portrays violent acts between Popeye and Bruno often fighting over Olive Oil but also tries to influence children to eat spinach. The violent acts to the persuasion of children eating spinach does not measure out.

My Favorite Television Show 'Edd, N' Eddy

...As a child, I grew fond of watching television. I always had the channel set on cartoons, watching the colorful display of silly humor and adult jokes that went over my head. However, the younger me found one cartoon special. Three childhood friends in a slice-of-life show that would try their hardest to accommodate their desire for cheap candy. The show, named Ed, Edd, N’ Eddy was one of my favorite shows that still holds a place in my heart to this day. The cartoon revolves around three friends, aptly named Ed, Edd, and Eddy, who go around their neighborhood, named the Cul De Sac, and come up with wacky schemes to make enough money for their favorite treat, a jawbreaker. Each episode shows an idea crudely constructed with various materials,...

Andy Warhol's Subject Matter in the 1960s

...decided to experiment with pop art, a style of art that developed in England during the mid-1950s and produced realistic variations of well-known, everyday objects. He moved away from his technique of the blotted line and instead used canvas and paint. At first he had difficulty choosing what he was going to paint, but throughout the course of his pop art era he focused on four main subjects: product paintings, cartoon paintings, movie stars, and death. His first versions of pop art were called product paintings. These paintings showed popular consumer items that were familiar to the average American person, such as Brillo soap pads, Coca-Cola bottles, and the most famous of all, Campbell’s soup cans. He chose products such as these because they were top-selling products in the United States and they were considered important, useful, and economical by consumers. He drew his inspiration from the leftover Campbell’s soup cans and Coca-Cola bottles that he used at lunch. Andy Warhol’s second type of paintings was drawn from comic strips and comic books. Examples of these cartoon paintings include Dick Tracy (1961) and Superman (1960). Although he had begun to produce these before the product paintings, this phase lasted only a short period of time – once he discovered that Roy Lichtenstein was also painting characters from comic strips (seen in Castelli’s Gallery), he decided that he needed to find a different subject matter. After his attempts with American products and comic strips...

5 Fources

...ORTER’s Five Forces Analysis: Buying Power of Buyer’s: In Indian market the buying power of the consumer or the buyers is high. As there are a lot of other comic books available in the market, so the buyers can easily switch over to other comic publications. The cost factor of available comic publications makes it easy for the consumers to switch from one comic to the other. Generally comics with 40 to 50 pages are priced between Rs. 15 to Rs 20. As done by the major players like Raj comics & Virgin Comics . Buying Power of Suppliers: 1. Suppliers in the Indian market do not enjoy Bargaining power as the buyer does. There is limited no. of publication house that have license to publish comics of famous carton characters in India. So under such a condition the bargaining power of suppliers goes down. 2.The suppliers of comic publishing material in India loose bargaining power because of low switching costs as India is a price sensitive country. If they don’t provide competitive cost the publisher can easily switch over. Threat of New Entrants: 1. In the present scenario the Threat of new entrants is high in the Indian markets, Recently in June 2006 Virgin Comics entered Indian market by tying up with Gotham Comics. These comics are getting good response in the market and after seeing the market potential more comics & entertainment companies are likely to enter Indian markets. 2.At present the market potential of the Indian comics market is Rs. 100...

Popular Literature

...Popular Literature SOC/105 03/25/2012 Popular American Literature The comic book has been a source of entertainment for over sixty years, often called a funny book, comic paper, or comic magazine. It’s a magazine made up of comics, narrative artwork in the form of separate panels that represent individual scenes, often accompanied by dialog usually in word balloons, emblematic of the comic book art form as well as including brief descriptive prose. The first comic book appeared in the United States in 1930, reprinting the earlier newspaper comic strips, which established many of the story-telling devices used in comics. The term "comic book" arose because the first comic books reprinted humor comic strips. Despite their name, however, comic books do not necessarily only operate in humor, most modern comic books tell stories in a variety of genres from superhero to comedy. The comic book I’m focusing is on The Walking Dead By: Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore and Charlie Adlard. The Walking Dead tells the story of a small group of survivors living in the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse. Most of the story takes place in the Atlanta metropolitan area, as the survivors search for a safe haven away from the shuffling hordes of predatory zombies who devour and infect any living thing they catch. The plot is focused primarily on the dilemmas the group faces as they struggle to balance their humanity with their survival. Unlike the usual comic books The Walking is a horror story with...

Cartoons Impacts

...• Stevie talks about how cartoons have become violent and addictive to children and also how they have hidden adult subliminal messages to allow for parents to enjoy the cartoons along with their children. • Three major effects that have been proven by psychological research caused by children seeing violence on television are: the child may become less sensitive to the pain and suffering of others, children who watch violence do not fear violence nor are they bothered by violence in general, and the children are more likely to become aggressive or use harmful actions towards others. • "The April 2004 issue of the medical journal Pediatrics published a study done by Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center of Seattle, Washington. The study revealed that children who watched three to four hours of television daily had a 30 to 40 percent greater risk of developing attention deficit disorder than children who did not watch television." • cartoons set a false reality for children by cartoon characters being invincible. It talks about instances such as the how Wile E. Coyote in episodes of 'Loony Toons' can fall off a cliff and walk away without even a scratch. Incidents like this make children think that they too can do these things without being hurt, when in reality they can not. Having this false sense of reality increases the risk of child safety. “For every hour of TV viewed per day, the risk of injury rose by about 34% in the children studied.” • Wilcox talks about...

...World or other educational cartoons shows. The level of violence that they see on Cartoon Network is to violent and not educational or just plain fun entertainment like I use to watch. Morning programming is about 20 to 25 violent acts per hour. Are we just looking for ratings or popularity? At this rate, the average American child will see 8,000 murders before they finish elementary school! This has to stop our children will have no child hood not an innocent one. As a child sits in front of Television, with his or her eyes glued to the TV and not making a sound in being so in to a channel you have not selected, you may want to sit down and actually view what they watching. One day I sat with my children and let them navigate the channels and of course SpongeBob came on. At first it was ok then Patrick and SpongeBob began to curse but using words that grownups may use so children don’t know they are cursing, and my children began to laugh as if they knew what they were saying. I immediately got upset and changed the channel and banned it form in my house hold. We have to remember that the entertainment media plays an extremely powerful role in the formation of values and morals, to all youngsters' minds of all ages. These programs "play" with kids' minds; these programs have a tremendous negative effect on our children. We, as a society, must save about our children’s future and take a parenting role in protecting our children from the violence on our television. ...

Commentary

...“Ladies and Gentleman, Garfield and Friends. Friends are there to help you get started, to give you a push on your way. Friends are there turn you around, get your feet on the ground for a brand new dayyyyy….”, if your small tube television never sung this tune, or any other tune that opened up for an animated series, in the morning during breakfast, then I must say I’m quite sorry for you since you basically missed out on one of the best things of childhood: animated cartoons. Except for anything on PBS KIDS, the big and mean adults always criticized the early animated cartoons deeming them as “not educational” and that they “ruin the minds of kids” but that can be contradicted with today’s animations. When South Park was first broadcasted on television, I thought the running gag of the show was “ OMG (shortened for those know text language), they just killed Kenny!” Let me tell you how Lil’ Johnny corrected my thought when his incident became the number gossip in elementary school. It’s just one in the afternoon and everybody’s in their assigned seats acting like pure angels except for Johnny whose lately been given an attitude to everybody. The poor teacher’s frustrated face and expressions can be easily compared to my mom’s when I stayed up past twelve. Time out seemed like the most lenient punishment for this disobeying buckaroo. The problem being was Johnny didn’t cooperate so the only option left was the principal’s office. Johnny-once again- refused and called the teacher...

...and other media such as political cartoons, videos and medical statics that would enhance my argument. First off I started with Prezi, which is a “presentation tool that can be used as an alternative to traditional slide making programs such as PowerPoint. Instead of slides, Prezi makes use of one large canvas that allows you to pan and zoom to various parts of the canvas and emphasize the ideas presented there” (Prezi 2015). I thought the use of Prezi would help me better convey my argument while making it interesting to the audience. My next media to use in my remediation was Political cartoons (also known as editorial cartoons) which can be defined as “illustrations or comic strips containing a political or social message that usually relates to current events or personalities” (WW2). They can show Symbols, Caricatures, Stereotypes, Analogies, Juxtaposition, Irony, Captioning, and labels. By using political cartoons I can demonstrate tropes on both supporting and against, while persuading the audience. One such political cartoon depicts a women in a doctor’s examination table talking to her doctor after some testing. Her doctor is standing in front of her and he says “The bad news is your illness has no cure. However, the good news is we can manage your pain with medical marijuana. But the really bad news is I’ll be arrested if I prescribe pot. So…Take two aspirins a day and see me next month.” (Frank R). This particular political cartoon illiterates that medical marijuana...

The Chous: the Taiwanese Version of the Simpsons

...The Writing Team of Post-Modern Productions have been planning a revamped, Taiwanese version of the animated sitcom, The Simpsons. The Taiwanese version will center around a dysfunctional family as The Simpsons did, with the Chous’ and will also be animated. The family will include: Justin Chou, a 41-year old father; his wife Debra, 39; their children David and Angel Chou, 13 and 12. Secondary characters include 80 year-old Grandpa and 76 year-old Grandma Chou, and their dog, Stanley. Each character always finds him/herself in comedic situations despite itself being stuck in the exact opposite type of situation. The show will include elements present in the Simpsons, including stereotyping and it’s humor and satire. While The Simpsons has influenced other adult-orientated animated sitcoms, we want to produce one that would be able to reach a wider audience. What makes it particularly Taiwanese is that it includes well-known Taiwanese foods and traditions and their own phrases, which we think viewers will find amusing. It also parodies political issues and issues that viewers find relevant and it’s Taiwanese from a Western view. It exaggerates on typical Taiwanese day-to-day life, such as fretting about test results, homework, after-school lessons, Taiwanese media and intelligence. Typical Taiwanese are perceived as more intelligent than the average American and therefore sometimes we think of them being extremely smart and wearing glasses, especially for boys. <Show...

...Dr. P. A. Jones English 101 11 October 2013 Review of Family Guy “McStroke” "McStroke" is an interesting animated comedy, and it is a really funny animation. The animation is the eight episodes with six season comedy series. The “McStroke” is written by Wellesley Wild, and directed by Brian Iles. Wellesley is a famous American animation writer, whose famous writing is the episodes of the animated series Family Guy. The director Brian is a professional animated director, who is the co-executive producer. According to the episode we watched in the class, it is mainly introduced several stories, and all of them are funny story. One of the story showed that Peter suffer a stroke and he eats 30 hamburgers in the restaurant. As far as I’m concerned, this story is use the chronological order to introduce the story, and the role use the critical thinking to the story. Peter has a chance to eat free hamburgers because someone burned his mustache. Therefore he eats almost 30 hamburgers, then he fall down due to the stroke. I think this scene is seems like very funny, but it also express some other things. For example, he has a chance to eat 30 hamburgers because someone burned his mustache, and after his critical thinking, he accepts his apologize and choose to eat free hamburgers. He used the critical thinking to make choice. Then, he goes to the hospital, and his family members are going to hospital to visit him. In the animation, they might use very funny tone to talk, but...
