2. How does the buying behavior of the tradesmen impact the situation?
3. What is Makita’s competitive strategy and what role does milwaukee play?
4. What action alternatives should B&D pursue? why?

Answer
1. Ans:
● Tradespeople viewed B&D as use at home rather than a professional/on the job kind of a product.
● Two-step channel is the most important distribution channel for Professional segment sales. Within this channel, Makita accounts for 55% of market shares, while B&D less than 10%. 25% of professional-Tradesmen tool are sold through home centers channel, within which B&D accounts for less than 10%, while Makita accounts for 45%. Makita’s rise to marketplace dominance was aided by the rapid development of this new type of distribution.
● High SG&A costs ( selling, general & administrative cost) -25%
● Customers perceive B&D as the third tier of brand quality, while Makita has the highest quality perception among customers.

2. Ans:
● Tradesmen usually bought when a replacement was needed spending up to 1000$ per year on an average and from retail stores such as the Home depot. Buyers bought most frequently in independently owned stores served by distributors, i.e. the Two-step channel: Within this channel, Makita accounts for 55% of market shares, while B&D less than 10%.
● Tradesmen are not brand conscious and are not looking for innovation. They just want something reliable and have been used by other tradesmen.
● Since tools and performance were a constant topic of conversation at the job site for tradespeople, they formed a slightly negative perception toward B&D products because they viewed these products as consumer products, not professional tools that they could make a living out of.
● The product color is not really a key attribute in purchase

Meditech Case Study - Answers

...Meditech case Q1. What are Meditech’s Problems in introducing new products? In manufacturing ALL products? New products face forecasting problems. So in the beginning, as they can see in the data (graph of Weekly Net Order for New Products) of previous years, the demand in the first few weeks is booming. They should adjust their production numbers to the higher demand, until it will ease after week 4-6. In the weeks after the introduction peak the business should keep production on a constant level without having too much inventory but still enough to keep a 1 2/3 weeks of demand. There is a lot of data available but it is scattered over different systems in different areas of the organization. Therefore the data is practically useless. No routine way to see incoming demand for a new product. Configuring one universal data sheet was difficult because of the use of different time spans in different systems. A week’s notice before production change is too long. Q2. What is driving these problems, both systemically and organizationally? The business is decentralized, which means that there different areas work with different standards and system. Therefore they cannot quickly respond to each other. Problems are recognized too late. Problems are known, but because of the different systems that are used, this information is not properly communicated throughout the different departments of the business which results in slow response to problems (i.e. changes...

What Factors Might Influence an Individual’s Defense Mechanisms? Use Examples from the Case Studies to Illustrate Your Answer

...factors might influence an individual’s defense mechanisms? Use examples from the case studies to illustrate your answer. Individuals who have experienced trauma develop their own defense mechanisms to cope with the intrusive recollections and increased physiological arousal. When people suffer trauma their choice of defense can be influenced by three factors, • Developmental stage • Temperamental factors • Contextual factors. Below I will use the case studies of Jane & Brendan to illustrate how these factors influenced their defense mechanisms to trauma. Jane experienced the death of her sister at age 7, her developmental stage influenced the type of defense mechanisms she used to cope with the trauma of witnessing her sister’s death. Jane blamed herself for the accident. Prior to the traumatic incident Jane was described as being a “happy – go – lucky child”, however during the following years she lost interest at school and acted out to receive attention, making up stories & fake accidents, including a fake suicide. Jane’s defense mechanism in this example is role playing through fantasy, this involves Jane creating an inner world when her world became too painful, difficult or stressful. Between the ages of 12 – 18 Jane began experimenting with alcohol and drugs, using them as a defense. Contextual factors primarily her friends, influenced Jane’s use of alcohol & drugs. The case study sites Jane began taking drugs at 13 with friends, at 14 she first tried heroin with...

Nutrobalance Case Study

...Case study for NutroBalance. Purpose The purpose of this case study is to get you used to incorporating Microsoft Project charts and reports into your project’s progress reports. By now you should be able to work through the mechanics of loading tasks, predecessors, resources, and costs into MS Project. But the real challenge facing project managers is how to interpret the data in MS Project and how to make it “useful” for you and your stakeholders. In this case study you will be given a scenario and asked to load the project information into Microsoft Project. However, the purpose of this case study is bigger than just properly loading the Microsoft Project file. This case study requires you to interpret the MS Project results and incorporate the issues and results in your communication with key stakeholders. Your output of this case study explores the “softer” side of project management, including how to communicate your results to your key stakeholders in a clear and concise manner. The point of the case study is to show you that projects experience change over time, which forces you, the project manager, to modify and adapt your project. This case study is broken into three sections, Sections 1, 2, and 3. In each section you will be given some information on your project and then asked to “respond” to some of your stakeholders. Even though there are three sections in the case study, you will only submit ONE document, due Week 6. This document will include your answers...
