Bus101 Introduction to Marketing and Communications

...task requires you to address a short fictional case. In addressing the assignment topic you must draw explicitly on the chapters and articles noted on QMPlus. You do not need to do reading beyond the module reading list and you should not do any research into the industry, market, product, etc (just make any assumptions clear). Assignment Brief and Backstory You have been lucky enough to secure an internship at Once Dodgy Consultants LLP (ODC), the most prestigious and expensive of all strategic management consultancies, but also a very publicly spirited firm that spends most of its income from commercial activities helping charities and social enterprises reduce poverty and illness. One day, you are working in your cubicle and sense a disturbance in the office, your colleagues rapidly start to disappear muttering “CEO” and “MBC file”. You look up and are surprised to see the CEO of the consultancy leave the elevator and head to your divisional manager’s office, a red file marked “MBC BRIEF TOP SECRET” held distastefully at at arm’s length. The CEO leaves shortly afterwards. You see your divisional manager look forlornly around the office, note you as the only remaining member of staff on the floor and head your way with the file. The divisional manager gingerly puts the file on your desk, meekly mumbles “all yours” and “sorry” and then leaves. You open the file and start reading “Mega Bastard Corporation (MBC) is proposing to enter an exciting and innovative...

Leadership

...OB Case Study Analysis Name: Robert Butler Question 1: Describe the leadership styles that you see in the three caselets? The leadership style with Miller Brewing Company with the appointment of Norman Adami is an Affilliative style based upon the approach taken in “changing culture by engaging the hearts and minds of all of his employees”. This approach is a very effective way in building team from existing structures which at the time may be dysfunctional. There was a tolerance of mediocrity and underperformance was being rewarded, this needed to change. “Fred’s Pub” was a significant development in the implementation of the leadership style, leading to new culture development in an informal setting where all grade could mix and talk while developing a sense of pride in each of the workers. The approach develops harmony and develops emotional and personal bonds within the working environment. It also helps to motivate worker’s where company performance is poor by improving communications, developing empathy, emotional intelligence and taking a “People First” approach. (Harvard Business Review April 2000 P80 -83 Leadership that gets results) The leadership style with in JC Penney with the appointment of Myron E Ullman is a Coaching style, which develops & values people for the future. Case Study - Ibm

...Taleo Case Study IBM Taps Taleo to Provide Recruiting Technology for Global Outsourcing Clients In today’s challenging economy, now more than ever, strategic recruiting must adapt to the business cycle. There are fewer requisitions and more candidates clamoring to fill them. And in large global organizations, there are competing challenges as well – multiple ERP systems; regional applicant tracking systems; organizational complexity driven by M&A, divestures and legal compliance. In times like these, many companies simply trim headcount and hope to wait out the storm. IBM sees this as a time to transform talent management for business, clients, and the world. IBM sees a vision of a smarter planet, one that is instrumented, interconnected and intelligent. It is putting this vision into action with solutions such as smarter energy grids, smarter traffic management and a smarter healthcare infrastructure. IBM believes that now— when the going is the toughest— is the time to invest in the future. Why? Because the companies that focus on value, exploit opportunities and act with speed will come out of these tough times the strongest and the most capable of competing and winning in the marketplace. This is precisely why IBM turned to Taleo when it decided to invest in Recruitment Process Outsourcing (RPO) in 2008. In 2004, IBM launched its Human Resource Outsourcing (HRO) practice to enable Fortune 500 clients to make the most of globally integrated workforces and drive better...

Antimicrobial Susceptibility, Mic and Mbc

...------------------------------------------------- Antimicrobial Susceptibility, MIC and MBC ------------------------------------------------- Microbiology Lab Report 3 Carolina Toscanojara Antibiotic Sensitivity. Objective: Antibiotics are chemical compounds that selectively interfere with the growth of microorganisms while causing little or no damage to the animal or human host. The purpose of this lab was to determine the effectiveness antibiotics against any given bacterium by means of examining the zone of inhibition, the minimum inhibitory concentration, and the minimum bactericidal concentration. Introduction: Chemical antimicrobial agents are chemical compounds that are capable of either preventing the microorganisms for multiplying (bacteriostatic) in order for the immune system of the host to overcome them or killing them completely (bactericidal). Antibiotics taken to improve the symptoms from a disease are called chemotherapeutic drugs; they are produced by a microorganism such as bacterium or fungus and/or are derived from a chemical produced by one. The test carried out to determine which antibiotic will be most successful in treating certain bacteria is called Antibiotic Susceptibility Test (AST) and it is often done by the Kirby-Bauer method, which uses Muller Hinton agar and paper discs containing specific concentrations of antibiotics are placed on the agar surface after rubbed with bacterial specimen. Lung Cancer

...Ovarian Cancer Rosemary Jones MBC 120 June 20, 2012 You have been experiencing pelvic and abdominal pain. You feel like you are bloated all the time. You are having difficulty eating or you are not eating much because you feel full shortly after beginning. You have also noticed that your abdomen has increased in size. While any of these symptoms by themselves, is not necessarily concerning, if you have experience one of these symptoms at least 12 days a month for at least six months, further examination is warranted as it could be an indication of a more serious condition, in particular ovarian Cancer. Ovarian cancer only accounts for 3 percent of cancers in women, yet it is the fifth most common cause of cancer death behind lung, breast, colorectal, and pancreatic cancers. Out of every 100,000 women, 12.5 of them will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer. It does not discriminate against age. It can affect a newborn child just as easily as a woman in her in 50s or older. The target age, however, seems to be in women 50 or older. In 2008, according to the American Cancer Society, per 100,000 women between the ages of 65 to 74 years, there was a 48.6% incidence of ovarian cancer with a mortality of 36.1%. This increased to 55.6% for incidence and 55.2% for mortality in women 75 years and older. The chance that a woman would be diagnosed with invasive ovarian cancer in her lifetime is about 1 in 71. Her chance of dying from it is 1 in 95. The etiology of ovarian...
