They are proteins inside the cell. One CDK called “mitosis promoting factor” and helps break apart the nucleus. Another CDK helps work on the microtubules to build the spindle.

They tell the cell to move to the next stage once enough have accumulated.
c. growth factors
They are coordination between cells and protein signals released by body cells that stimulate other cells to divide.
d. PDGF
The binding of PDGF to cell receptors stimulates cell division and connective tissue. They are made by platelets in blood clots.
e. MPF
It’s the mitosis promoting factor and it helps to break apart the nucleus. It is a type of CDK.
f. Describe a model for an external signal for growth.
Growth factors can create cancers. Proto-oncogenes (activate cell division) are growth factor genes that become oncogenes (cause cancer) when mutated. If switched on they can cause cancer. Tumor suppressor genes when turned off can cause cancer, because they inhibit cell division.

It is the anaphase promoting complex that helps work on the microtubules to build the spindle.

It is in the G1/S checkpoint and it stops cell division from continuing if it detects a mutation.
