Cellular respiration is a catabolic reaction that takes place cytosol and inside of both outer and inner membranes of mitochondria. Cellular respiration consists of multiple stages that aim to break down glucose into water and carbon dioxide to generate ATP for energy use. Glycolysis in the cytosol, Krebs cycle in the mitochondrial matrix, and oxidative phosphorylation on inner mitochondrial membrane take place in a consecutive order for cellular respiration. The glucose provides as the energy source when electrons mainly come from carbon and received by oxygen molecule in the end of chemiosmosis. The electrons are carried by NADH and FADH2 and finally transferred to the oxygen molecule. ATPs are made both in three stages of cellular respiration. And …show more content…
Ideally, photons, water, and carbon dioxide are used to produce ATP, glucose and oxygen. Photosynthesis consists two parts which are photophosphorylation and Calvin cycle (carbon fixation). Energy is provided by photons for photosynthesis in both PSII and PSI complexes and electrons come from oxygen in the breakdown of water molecular in PSII. For cyclic electron pathways electrons going back and forth from cyt to Fd along the thylakoid membranes, however, in noncyclic electron pathways, electrons are given to the NADP+ to form NADPH. Electron carrier NADPH will transfer electrons to the chloroplast stroma in Calvin cycle. Hydrogen ions get pumped from chloroplast stroma into the thylakoid membranes then moving along the gradient out into the chloroplast stroma again, and ATPs are made in the process that hydrogen ions moving along the gradient out to the chloroplast stroma during the light reactions. Significant environmental and economic benefits can be gained by making small changes in the way the landfills are operated. Bioreactor landfill is a promising biotechnological option for faster stabilization of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW). It changes the goal of landfilling from the storage of waste to the treatment of waste. In a bioreactor landfill environment, the solid waste actively decomposes rather than being simply buried in a dry tomb. This active decomposition is possible because over half the MSW is comprised of organic material (food, paper, etc.), which will decompose fairly rapidly under the right conditions. Rather than being kept dry, the solid waste is actively moistened by injecting leachate into the landfilled solid waste to accelerate decomposition. The anaerobic conditions in a conventional landfill can be replaced with aerobic conditions by introducing air into the solid waste and thus enhancing the biological process. Studies show that a bioreactor landfill transforms and stabilizes the readily and moderately decomposable organic waste constituents within five to ten years. This study has eight set-ups with four as the control variable and the other as the experimental. The set-ups are as follows: Set-up 1 and 2 with one unripe mango in each and ashes; 3 and 4 with four pieces of banana in each with ashes; 5 and 6 with just one mango in each; and 7 and 8 with just four bananas in each. The ripeness of the fruits was defined by the color of its exocarp and its growth rate. Results show that the set-ups containing banana and ash ripened faster compared to the ones without ash and that there was no significant difference in all set-ups of the mangoes. The researchers concluded that wood ashes are effective in hastening the ripeness of banana but not mangoes.
