1. Discuss the concept of corporate social responsibility. What role does it play in the relationship between a company and its host country? (Course objective 1)

International social responsibility is the expectation that MNCs concern themselves with the social and the economic effects of their decisions regarding activities in other countries. An MNC’s stance on international social responsibility determines how harmonious and productive its long-term relationships with host countries will be. By taking an open-systems perspective on CSR it is more likely that the MNC will be taking the right action relevant to all stakeholders.

2. Discuss the criticisms which have been levied against MNCs in the past regarding their activities in less-developed countries. What counter-arguments are there to those criticisms? (Course objectives 1, 2)

MNCs have been criticized for disrupting the social, technological, and political climates in host nations. Governments often have a “love-hate” relationship with MNCs because they want the economic advantages produced by the presence of MNCs, but they regret the negative impacts MNCs often have on the political and social environments. MNCs can defend themselves by pointing out that, without their presence, host nations would not have as many jobs or trade opportunities, as well as opportunities to appropriate technology. MNCs have also been accused of destroying local culture through globalization. Although MNCs have increased the degree of globalization, and in some cases made some aspects of local culture disappear, differences in culture remain strong and deep.

3. What does moral universalism mean? Discuss your perspective on this concept. Do you think the goal of moral universalism is possible? Is it advisable? (Course objective 4)

This means to address the need for a moral standard that is accepted by all

...Word Processing Learn to type. The ultimate limitation of any word processor is the speed at which you enter data; hence, the ability to type quickly is invaluable. Learning how to type is far from an insurmountable problem, especially with the availability of computer-based typing programs. As little as a half hour a day for a couple of weeks will have you up to speed, and if you do any significant amount of writing at all, the investment will pay off many times. ------------------------------------------------- Write now, but edit later. You write a sentence, then change it, and change it again, and one hour later, you have produced a single paragraph. It happens to the best of writers – you stare at a blank screen and flashing cursor and are unable to write. The best solution is to brainstorm and write down anything that pops into your head, and to keep on writing. Do not worry about typos or spelling errors because you can fix them later. Above all, resist the temptation to edit continually the few words you have written because over-editing will drain the life out of what you are writing. The important thing is to get your ideas on paper. Delete with caution. It’s all too easy to delete a paragraph, and then realize five minutes later that you need it back. Hence, instead of deleting a large block of text, move it to the end of a document or writing it to another file, so that you can restore the text if you change your mind. A related practice is to remain in the...

The Book Thief Analysis

...Liesel and her brother Werner were to be adopted by the Hubermanns for an unknown reason at that time. But unfortunately, Werner didn’t make it. He died on their way to Molching. The thievery of a nine year old Liesel Meminger started when she took the fallen book from a young gravedigger entitled A Gravedigger’s Handbook (Chap1 p17-21). When she arrived at the Himmel Street, she was welcomed by her new parents Rosa and Hans Hubermann. Rosa her Mama, is the one who serves as the breadwinner of the family who get paid for washing and ironing the clothes of the wealthy families in Molching (chap2 p28). She first seemed to be scary and rude because of her language that’s quite not pleasing, for she often uses insult words like Saumensch, Saukerl or Arschloch (chap2 p26). Rosa’s husband, Hans, a painter (chap2 p27) who had silver eyes (chap 10 p72) and who is fond of playing a piano accordion (chap2 p27), became really close to Liesel. Every time she had a nightmare about her little brother and mother, Hans would comfort her and play a song for her using his accordion. For Liesel to forget her nightmares, he read books for her and even taught her how to read and write (chap3 p32-33). Hans has a great heart. His advices to Liesel are indeed very meaningful. Despite his goodness, he had a deep conflict with his son, Hans Junior, because his son is a Nazi and he is not. (chap13 p88). Aside from Liesel’s foster parents, she also met a boy next door who soon became her best friend named...

Module 2 discussion When I took a humanity class in college, there were two male students who were friends with each other that sat behind me. They were quietly and actively involved during the class discussion and created a pleasant mood. However, during an exam, their voices were loud enough to be heard by me and other students. One female student, C, who sat next me had strongly adverse feelings about their cheating and she wanted us to go to the professor and talk about them together. However, I didn’t because I felt kind of embarrassed reporting the classmates to the professor and did not mind it since it would not have affected my grade anyway. In addition, their voice was loud enough for the whole class to hear, so I guessed that the professor already knew about them and might punish their behavior later. C reported them after the end of...

Compare the Models of Government Business Relations in Sweden and the United States

...Compare the models of government-business relations in two countries , focusing on one industry . Which model is best? Why? Compare the models of government business relations in Sweden and the United States This essay will compare the two models of government business relations operating in the banking sectors of Sweden and the United States (US). The main argument presented, is that the Swedish model provides a more effective outcome for both the citizens and businesses by offering greater economic stability within the internal economy and also the banking sector. This argument is supported by examples that demonstrate how the Swedish model enabled quick and effective implementation and has provided the Swedish banking sector stability since its inception in1992. Sweden has a socialist democratic system with a capitalist economy, a socialist embedded welfare system and a deregulated financial market which has benefited from constant economic growth (Central Intelligence Agency, 2010). Sweden’s growth continued till the 1990’s when it experienced the ‘1990 Bank Crisis’ similar to the American subprime mortgage crisis (Phillips, 2009). The United States has a liberal democracy with a market orientated economy which is one of the most powerful economies in the world with a GDP of $14.29 trillion (Central Intelligence Agency, 2010). However unlike Sweden the United states economy does suffer from insufficient economic infrastructure and medical and welfare systems (Central...
