Chapter 1 Essay Questions:

1. Explain the relationships among the four functions of management.

The four basic management functions are planning, influencing, and controlling. a. Planning involves choosing tasks that must be performed to attain organizational goals, outlining how the tasks must be performed, and indicating when they should be performed. b. Organizing-can be thought of as assigning the tasks developed under the planning function to various individuals or groups within the organization. c. Influencing is referred to as motivating, leading, directing, or actuating. d. Controlling is the management function through which managers i. Gather information that measures recent performance within the organization ii. Compare present performance to pre-established performance standards. iii. From this comparison, determine whether the organization should be modified to meet pre-established standards.
These functions are interrelated because the performance of one depends on the performance of the others. For example, organizing is based on well thought out plans developed during the planning process, and influencing systems must be tailored to reflect both these plans and the organizational design used to implement them. The fourth function, controlling, involves possible modification to existing plans, organizational structure, or the motivation system used to develop a more successful effort.

2. How can controlling help a manger to become more efficient?

e. Managerial efficiency is the proportion of total organizational resources that contribute to productivity during the manufacturing process. The higher this proportion, the more efficient the manager. So if the manager is controlling properly like gathering information, comparing and contrasting pre-established standards

...most populous country, is an excellent "laboratory" for the social scientific study of political, economic and social behavior. The Twentieth Century alone has seen many changes in China's fundamental institutions: from imperial courts to military regimes and single-party police states, from rural households to international stock-holding companies, and from foot-binding and slavery to mass movements and democracy protests. The latest development in the last decade has led to the calling of the twenty-first century as “the Chinese Century,” which suggests the possibility that the 21st century will be dominated by China, similarly to how "the American Century" refers to the 20th century and "the British Century" refers to the 19th century.[1] The phrase is used particularly in the assertion that the economy of China will overtake the economy of the United States as the...

Apush Reflection

...I didn't really take notes, but now that I am planning on taking the SAT Subject Test for US History, I found the need to go through the book and take notes to better retain the information. Side note: The Subject Test questions (all multiple choice) are usually not accompanied by a relevant text or picture, but does test the same knowledge the AP Exam does. I am using a system that I really like and it begins by reading the chapter summary at the end, and writing down the main points in bullet form. Then I would read the individual section summaries behind the chapter summary, write down main points in bullet form, and flip to the corresponding section in the chapter to write down any bolded terms. For example, I would go through the chapter summary of 5, the 5.1 section summary, the 5.1 section of the chapter, 5.2 section summary, 5.2 section in chapter, and finally read the chapter, adding in important info as I find...

Discuss each aspect of these results. * The F-value suggests that there is a significant difference between the results of the control and treatment groups. The P-value of 0.005 is < the alpha of 0.05. This suggest that the groups are significantly different and the null hypothesis should be rejected. 2. State the null hypothesis for the Baird and Sands (2004) study that focuses on the effect of the GI with PMR treatment on patients’ mobility level. Should the null hypothesis be rejected for the difference between the two groups in change in mobility scores over 12 weeks? Provide a rationale for your answer. * Treatment group mean = control group mean * With the p-value being < the alpha, the null hypothesis would be rejected indicating the difference in the mean mobility scores. 3.
