Abstract
As I read chapter two, the explanation of teachers’ roles in children’s play stood out the most to me. I would take the message “teachers have six roles in supporting children’s play” with me in the profession of early childhood education. A teacher can be the observer, collaborator, planner, responder, role model, and mediator of play.

It’s also a great message to know because every child is different in their very own unique way. I would share what I learned from this message with someone else because a teacher can be the observer, collaborator, planner, responder, role model, and mediator. From my take away message, I’ll share what the authors explained about the roles of a teacher with play. As an observer of play, you will need to determine whether children need help with a problem; whether toys or materials are adequately stimulating; and whether play is contributing to children’s development and skills (Isenberg and Jalongo, 2018). As a collaborator of play, teachers can extend their play by adding a new toy or prop, by becoming a coplayer with a child, or by asking a question that elaborates on but does not change the theme (Isenberg and Jalongo, 2018). As a planner of play, play requires considerable planning to ensure that the space and materials facilitate children’s thinking and learning and that they have enough background knowledge to engage in meaningful, educational play (Isenberg and Jalongo, 2018).
