With that Hevy picks one up and begins to return to his post by Sharp.
When Sharp yells to the squad, “Scanner’s picking a large mass moving toward us!” Rex, Hevy, and Rogue rush to the scanner.
“That’s got to be at least a battalion of troops," Rogue says.
Rex gave another order, “Gear up and get ready. Looks like we won’t be going without an easy fight. We got a couple minutes max before they’re here.” Hevy starts moving debris to use as cover from the wreckage, Rogue helps Sharp move to a location where he can shoot. Rex countdowns the minutes before their fate is right on top of them. He examines the terrain in front of him. Long, rolling dunes of sand.
“No major ridges or mountains, no one will have a geographical advantage," he thought to himself. Everything was almost in position when Sharp got sight of the enemy. …show more content…
They’re here!” Sharp shouts to Rex.
Rex gives a short yet inspiring speech to his squad “Battle positions! Delta Squad let us give them a fight they won’t forget!”
A “Hoorah!” is heard in reply and they take up position behind some overturned scrap from the wreck and then the first wave of IS troops start their advance on Delta Squad’s makeshift outpost. Once the troops are in range, Rex and Rogue open fire with their CR-100 Plasma rifles, while Sharp picks them off with with his LR20. If any weren’t shot yet, Hevy would hit them with a chaingun spewing out 200 bolts a minute. Quickly, but not easily, the first wave was killed.
“Second and third waves on their way now!” Sharp exclaimed as he saw them through his sniper scope, then proceeded by him picking off some troops from far away. Again Rex and Rogue held out despite numerous bolts of plasma flying just past their head. Hevy was standing strong still, as well as providing a large amount of bolts onto the battlefield hitting about half of the IS troops. The second wave was about almost decimated when a bolt of plasma hit Hevy in the shoulder. Hevy dropped to the dirt.
“Hevy!” Rogue

I wrote it between 1980 and 1984, while living in Berkeley, California. Since 1977, I had been active in the movement against nuclear power and weapons which, in California, focused its protests at the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Plant near San Luis Obispo, and at the University of California's Lawrence Livermore Labs where...

Introduction to Global Marketing

...PART 2 The Global Marketing Environment CHAPTER 2 The Global Economic Environment Case 2-1 The Global Economic Crisis I n his 1997 book One World, Ready or Not, William Greider described the United States as “the buyer of last resort.” Greider explained that, for many years, the United States was the only nation that was willing to absorb production surpluses exported by companies in Europe, Asia, and Latin America. Greider asked: “Who will buy the surpluses when the United States cannot?” The conventional wisdom has long held that strong spending by consumers in other nations would keep the world economy humming. However, by 2008, Greider’s question was taking on a new urgency and the conventional wisdom was being tested. An economic crisis that had its roots in lax subprime mortgage lending practices began to spread around the globe. In the United States, where the crisis began, economic misery was widespread: The housing market collapsed, real estate values plummeted, credit tightened, and job growth slowed (see Exhibit 2-1). As the price of oil passed the $100 per barrel benchmark, the average price of a gallon of gasoline rose to $4. American consumers were, indeed, less willing and less able to buy. However, the crisis was not confined to the United States alone. Consumer-goods exporters in Asia, which Exhibit 2-1: The bursting of the global real estate bubble was only one aspect of the worst recession in decades. The ripple effects from the economic...

The Last Leaf

...works of his maturity never got into the programmes. Kids cut their pianistic teeth on a Minuet in G which Beethoven composed only so that he could detest it. I have to go on living with A Clockwork Orange, and this means I have a sort of authorial duty to it. I have a very special duty to it in the United States, and I had better now explain what this duty is. Let me put the situation baldly. A Clockwork Orange has never been published entire in America. The book I wrote is divided into three sections of seven chapters each. Take out your pocket calculator and you will find that these add up to a total of twenty-one chapters. 21 is the symbol for human maturity, or used to be, since at 21 you got the vote and assumed adult responsibility. Whatever its symbology, the number 21 was the number I started out with. Novelists of my stamp are interested in what is called arithmology, meaning that number has to mean something in human terms when they handle it. The number of chapters is never entirely arbitrary. Just as a musical composer...
