It was announced from the beginning of the film that Dr. Fritz Haber received the Kaiser Wilhelm Medal because he saved millions of lives by making a fertilizer. I found it amazing that he didn’t take all the credit when his team congratulated him, but instead he credited his team for this honor; not many people would do this because of the pursuit of fame. I found it interesting that his Jewish father was living in Germany because of what would take place about 15 years later; however, Dr. Haber didn’t consider himself to be Jewish because he knew how the public would view him as a scientist.
Another interesting subject is that Dr. Haber’s wife, Clara Haber, was the first to receive a Ph.D. in chemistry in the early 1900s. Usually in those days, women would be the caretakers of the family; however, she sought out her dreams of a career in science. …show more content…
Dr. Haber went to a military hospital to observe the victims; what an overwhelming sight this must’ve been because many had trench foot from standing in the water and sewage filled trenches with no extra pairs of boots nor socks and bullet wounds from the machine guns. After observing the conditions of the soldiers, he must’ve been convinced that he needed to help Germany. This is an interesting subject for debate because of its battle with ethics. Many argue that it would save lives; however, with that comes with the cost of losing many lives. The lives of innocent civilians were lost when the atomic bombs were dropped on Japan in the 1940s. Along with the loss of innocent Jews from concentration camps and gas chambers. In fact, one of Haber’s team members resigned because he viewed that this conflicted with his morals.
