The result of his first voyage. Cristopher Columbus wrote to the king and Queen telling them about the islands he founded throughout his journey, filled with people uncountable, and of them all he has taken possession for their highnesses, by proclamation made and with the royal standard unfolded, and no disagreement was offered to me. The first island which he founded he named it “San Salvador,” in remembrance of the Divine Majesty, the second, he named the island “Santa Maria de Concepcion,” the third, “Fernandina,” the fourth, “Isabella,” the fifth island, “Juana,” and so each received from me a new name.
