Child Prostitution
Most of us girls at the age of 7 were thinking of having sleepovers, Barbie dolls, and coloring. Not many of us had a childhood like Syreypov Chan. She was sold to a brothel in Cambodia’s capital city, Phnom Penh to work as a sex slave. Her own mother was the one who made the sale of Syreypov. She was forced by pimps to have sex with 20 men a day, and if she didn’t meet her quota or even tried running away she’d be punished in ways you wouldn’t even think of going through. Chan would be burned with a hot poker & covered with biting insects. It may sound surprising, but Syreypov Chan is not the only person that’s gone through this. 12+ million people across the world are now victims of labor & forced prostitution at an earlier age than Syreypov.
Child prostitution is a problem in Cambodia, because Daylyn, 17 was a victim of it. She was one of the thousands in Cambodia that were among young child prostitution. Not one moment in her life would Daylyn think she would be put in a situation that she was put in. When she was 12 Daylyn agreed to work at a garment factory. Turns out she really agreed to being sold to an owner of a brothel in Phnom Penh. The price of Daylyn was $150, she heard. She was put into a room, & men came into her room to room telling her to get some clients. As clients would visit her, & she would refuse to do sexual acts with them she would get beat up by them & reported to the brothel owner. After she got reported the brothel would beat her too, & get the other girls to beat her some more. Locked in a cage, she was scared & wouldn’t be let out unless a client came. Finally, the brothel owner was arrested & they were rescued by the police & the AFESIP, an organization whose founder is Somaly
