Week 4 Assignment 2

...Assignment 2: Scope and Time Management By: Joshua Roberts CIS 517: IT Project Management Dr. Reddy Urimindi February 2, 2014 Scope and Time Management Summarize how this activity improves the chances of your future IT project being a success. Given that the IT project in scope, i.e. installation of 10 wireless access points in the company is a complex undertaking that would impact a lot of stakeholders and also incur a lot of company resources, it is very essential that it is done in an effective and efficient manner. Also, given that the scope of this project spans across different departments, and would go on for about three months, there needs to be very high degree of coordinated efforts, aided by regular and effective communication that would ensure that the project is a success (Project Management Certification, n.d). The creation of a WBS allows the company both these points above, by bringing in structure to project planning and execution and providing very good visibility on what is to be performed and achieved in order to execute the project effectively. This essentially translates into the project teams and sponsors having a good view on the schedule estimates, and also to effectively manage the schedule to ensure that the project gets completed on time. The activity of creating a project plans ensures that the project team has given enough though to all the key areas, and is well prepared to execute the project, thus enabling complex tasks to be broken down...

Scope and Time Management

...Assignment 2: Scope and Time Management CIS 517 Dr J.F. Manning July 24, 2011 How can this activity improve the chances of your future IT project being a success? Project planning is often the most difficult and unappreciated process in project management. The main purpose of project plans, however, is to guide project execution. To guide execution plans must be realistic and useful, so a fair amount of time and effort must go into the planning process (Schwalbe, pg. 96, 2011). The work break down structure is a useful tool to help project managers become better organized and execute projects effectively while minimizing risks involved with the project process. This activity emphasized the importance for project managers to make strategic decisions, while staying observant and detail oriented throughout the project process. The insight obtained from the activity will aid in the success of any future IT project. Following the five main steps timely and effectively resulted in a more efficient management process. Setting the guidelines of the project and the added use of the work break down structure gave me a better view of how important it is to meet deadlines. Prioritizing the work packages and understanding the possibility that not all objectives would be completed helped minimize the stress associated with the project process. The activity shows how to diligently work together and communicate effectively in order to ensure a successful project outcome. Conducting...

It Project Management

...Natalie Bronson Prof. Brian Kraus Project Management – CIS 517 July 14, 2013 In the Denver suburb of approximately 309,000, Aurora faced a severe drought that lasted for several years. By 2003 the water supply in the city was at an all-time low. The decline in the water supply and a constant drought forced the water authority to enforce water restrictions and other incentives to encourage residence to conserve water. There was only enough water for the community for 9 months when there was a need for a 3 - 5 year supply. The Aurora city government and the Aurora water authority desperately needed a solution to the issue of dwindling water supply, after analyzing several possible resolutions to the problem; the Aurora city council approved the Prairie Water Project in 2010. The city sought a project to increase the city’s water supply by adding 10,000 acres of renewable water within a 5 year timeframe with a budget of $854 million. The Meridian Colorado project management team of CH2MHill was chosen to complete the plan. CH2MHill is a worldwide organization that is a leader in providing their clients who needed engineering or consulting resolutions. They also provided their clients with solutions by being technologically sound, creative, and inventiveness. They are known for delivering a quality product and sharing the benefits. The Prairie Water Project was a plan to provide the Aurora, Colorado community with a sustainable water source. The project would...

The Role of Preoperative Chlorhexidine as an Antiseptic Solution to Reduce the Risk of Postoperative Surgical Site Infection

...The role of preoperative Chlorhexidine as an antiseptic solution to reduce the risk of postoperative surgical site infection C1369366-MET319 Word count: 3546 Contents: Introduction: 3 Objective: 4 Methods: 4 Table 1: Search strategy 5 Critical appraisal of the literature: 5 Discussion: 17 Conclusion: 17 References: 18 Introduction: Surgical Site Infection (SSI) is a common complication in surgical practice. The incidence depends on multiple factors including the type and location of surgical procedure ranging from 2%-4% in simple skin lesions (Rogues et al., 2007) to 36% in cases of reversal of stoma (Liang et al., 2013). Incidence of SSI can be kept low by simple measures such as rescheduling elective procedures in presence of infection; e.g.: Urinary Tract Infection, Respiratory Tract Infection which can seed Bacteria to surgical wounds (Ollivere et al., 2009). Prophylactic Antibiotics given prior to elective surgery remains debatable and of questionable value considering the risk of side effects, emergence of Multi-drug resistant Pathogens and Anaphylaxis, and therefore should be used according to guidelines like in patients with higher risk for developing SSI (Wright et al., 2008, Dixon et al., 2006). Also, procedures at certain body sites and those involving surgical reconstruction are better covered with prophylactic Antimicrobial agent (Rosengren and Dixon, 2010). Use of antiseptic scrub has been...

...Academy of Management Journal 2013, Vol. 56, No. 5, 1465–1486. http://dx.doi.org/10.5465/amj.2011.0180 WHEN POWER MAKES OTHERS SPEECHLESS: THE NEGATIVE IMPACT OF LEADER POWER ON TEAM PERFORMANCE LEIGH PLUNKETT TOST University of Michigan FRANCESCA GINO Harvard University RICHARD P. LARRICK Duke University We examine the impact of the subjective experience of power on leadership dynamics and team performance and find that the psychological effect of power on formal leaders spills over to affect team performance. We argue that a formal leader’s experience of heightened power produces verbal dominance, which reduces team communication and consequently diminishes performance. Importantly, because these dynamics rely on the acquiescence of other team members to the leader’s dominant behavior, the effects only emerge when the leader holds a formal leadership position. Three studies offer consistent support for this argument. The implications for theory and practice are discussed. Organizations make extensive use of teams when structuring and allocating work projects. Given the increasing prevalence of teams in modern organizations and the complexities involved in group dynamics, questions about how to ensure high levels of collective learning and effective decision making, along with other key determinants of team performance, have captured extensive attention from researchers and practitioners alike (Martin & Bal, 2006). One important area of inquiry into team effectiveness...

The seroprevalence of HCV infection among HD ranged from 1.9% to 80% in reports published since 1999. The main risk factor for HCV acquisition in HD patients seems the length of time on HD. Phylogenetic analysis of HCV viral isolates has suggested nosocomial patient-to-patient transmission of HCV infection among HD patients. Lack of strict adherence to universal precautions by staff and sharing of articles such as multidose drugs might be the main mode of nosocomial HCV spread among HD patients. Currently, there are several dilemmas on the management of these patients: should HCV-RNA testing be included in the routine screening of HD population for HCV infection?; does periodic serum alanine aminotransferase testing have a role in screening HD patients for HCV infection?; can dialysis really 'save'...
