Baylor University’s 2011 Softball Freshman catcher, Clare Hosack. Many young softball players look up to this player for different reasons. She is well known in the softball community as the freshman who hit a foul ball into her face. She was able to walk off the field while covering her eye. Many of the softball players have a lot of respect for her as an athlete. Clare Hosack made an impact immediately on Baylor’s campus. According to the Baylor Bears athletic website baylorbears.com it has her biography and information. It states that, her freshman season included 48 games. She also tied for second on the squad with six homeruns. In her sophomore year, she led the team with 20 RBI and six multi RBI games. During her junior year she was the Bear’s primary catcher and boasted a 366 on-base percentage. She posted 47 hits, including 11 homers, and a .533 slugging percentage. Her senior season she accomplished all three of these things even when she has a big injury, she didn’t let that affect her softball career. …show more content…
On the espn.com they have an article “Clare Hosack returns, earns respect”. In this article it has interviews with Hosack, other players on the team, and the Baylor Bear’s coach Moore. Moore wasn’t sure if she should let Hosack on the field, and this is the interview ESPN got with the coach. “"I wasn't sure she was quite ready to go back, but just look at the respect she has," Moore said. "Alabama didn't really want to test her, when they were running on one of the first two pitches on everybody with two of their runners, and they wouldn't send them on her. That's tremendous respect."” By Alabama doing this it shows that they respect her as a fellow softball athlete. I’m sure this meant a lot to Clare. In this game she may not have done as well as she hoped, but she performed well considering the injury she recently
