When I began this course, I had no idea what college writing would be like. All throughout my high school experience I was taught to write in a specific format, but all of that prior knowledge was extracted upon entering this class. I had never struggled with writing previously, but when this class began, I knew I was going to be challenged. I did not know what to expect from this course. I think I was just hoping that there would not be a drastic change. Even though there was a tremendous amount of change, this class had benefitted me the most out of all of my classes my senior year. Throughout this entire course I had learned many useful skills when it comes to writing a college level essay. I think one of the most helpful tools that I was introduced to during this semester was the website PaperRater. In previous years I just had to rely on peer editing which was not always the best method of editing. After using PaperRater I believe that my papers have advanced in vocabulary and sentence structure. Another useful tool that we were instructed to use was Noodletools. I had used this program during my freshman year, but I did not really understand how to properly use it. It has helped me keep my citations and information for my essays organized. The skill that I used most frequently was metacognition. The term metacognition refers to “the processes …show more content…
I will admit that I never put much effort into researching prior to this class. The extent of my research included a few sources from Google. I was introduced to EBSCO during my time in this class. This site is full of credible database resources for just about any topic. This website is truly a paper-saver. I have used EBSCO for every paper that I have written after learning about its existence. I also learned to use more database sources than Google searched websites, which has improved my research and writing

...This class has already taught me more in two weeks than I had expected to learn throughout the whole class. I was not sure how far behind I was due to being out of school for so long or how easy I could re-learn and retain the information. The basics provided in week one has helped build a stronger foundation of my writing skills which was built upon in week two. This class will have a large impact on not only my success throughout my time at Bethel University but also at work. I have also found some of the lessons to be very interesting. We were provided with important information in weeks one and two including tips for success, proper use of punctuations, and commonly misused grammar. This information was a great refresher for me and reminded...

...Oji Michael Chukwu MBA 6322, Leadership in Supply Chain, Management 29th October 2015 Reflective Essay on 22nd October 2015 Lecture. At the start of the semester when I registered for this class I thought it would just a walk in the park kind of experience, but I have come to understand that as the course goes on that the class will enable me to interact with other classmates, creating more confidence in me by improving my writing, social and leadership skills. The case study exercise exposed the art of mobilizing others to want to struggle for shared aspirations and also how one person makes a difference in a group. Writing about my personal goals and reflective essay, made me see how much I have improved in my writing and learning. Most of all this class helps me to know more about the role of leadership in supply chain management. The student leadership challenge as I was made to understand is to help me identify able set of skills and abilities that will enable me to effect a change in my present environment and also in the future. I learned that in group projects that each person is accountable for something in a group and if one person messes up than the whole group gets the consequence of the result. In view of this fact I feel more relaxed knowing that each person in my group knows what they were accountable for and would not let the group down on the job. This has increased my awareness of being accountable on what decisions I make as a future...

Reflective Essay: What I Learned In My Writing Class

...skills have gotten better in the aspect of morale, explaining, and focus. My last writing class was over a year ago and that was more of a research paper more than an actual focus on my writing skills. What I mean by that is I wasn’t just writing down just an explanation from a book but instead I was using this chance to experience a different in writing assignments. My first week back in writing wasn’t my best week due to my lack in practicing my skills but with just a week or two it came back to me. I started to remember to write out the end plan instead of writing what just comes to mind; which usually got me lost halfway through. The class was also a...

Reflective Essay: Why I Drop My Writing Class

...Toward the start of this semester, I was exceptionally scared by the possibility of expositions. I saw composing as something I was bad at in this way was under the feeling that I will undoubtedly come up short. I needed information about composing and the segments of a solid paper. The negligible idea of writing an exposition nearly constrained me to drop this class. By and by, I don't endeavor things I know I am not talented at, but rather this course was required for my degree. Notwithstanding, rather than beginning this composition course with a negative state of mind I chose to take this course with a positive mental disposition and face challenges with assurance. ...EWRT 211 Reflective Essay November 25, 2013 Reflective Essay When the semester first began, I was unsure if EWRT 211 was going to be like any other English classes I've taken in the past. I could safely say that, this class was nothing like I've experienced before. For our first assignment, we were told to write a detailed analysis and our understanding of the authors message. I was introduced to citing quotes and writing page numbers and immediately started to make it a habit. The next new idea that was introduced to me was writing concert specific details. For example, in high school I gave very broad examples and rarely gave my nouns a name. I struggled to get used to this new writing style. After writing a couple essays in this class I've learned from my mistakes of not giving enough specific details. Ive tried to improve my writing with better structure and techniques. Therefore, I feel I am prepared for EWRT 1A because I have established to write a structured essay with a strong thesis with specific examples with a common theme. In the first in class essay the writing style had been extremely close too what I had been used too. It wasn't until my second in class essay,"New ways to Defuse Violence", that I learned the importance of structure of the essay. This essay required us to compare and contrast between two different articles and give a detailed analyze of them. This way of writing was foreign to me because no one had ever asked me to do this. Writing...

This semester, the class focuses on creating the most effective and appropriate styled thesis statement for each essay. On 30th September 2009, I had a significant experience where I took part in a communications exercise facilitated by my quite engaging KOLB tutor. The purpose of the exercise was to demonstrate the differences between one-way and two-way communication. Students were split into pairs where one student would sit behind the other. The student in front was given a blank A4 piece of paper and a pen. The student sitting behind them was given an A4 piece of paper with a series of shapes printed on it. The object was for the student sitting behind to tell the student sitting in front how to replicate the shapes onto their blank A4 piece of paper. The only rule was that the student listening to the instructions was not aloud...

Self Assessment Essay

...Self Reflective Essay Derek Alan Barbara ENG115Self-Assessment Reflection Derek Alan Barbara For the informative essay, I chose to do a web style prewriting strategy which was mainly effective at getting my ideas out while organizing them at the same time. I learned from this strategy that I can organize and have plenty of ideas come at the same time. The Purpose of my essay was to inform the reader on how to take a shower. From the getting ready part, through the actual shower and on to the after shower activities. I looked for content and organization in the essays read in class. I learned that other authors had really interesting stands on a variety of subjects. I learned that I needed to spend more time organizing and structuring my paper towards the end. I decided to revise my essay by proofreading it myself and making corrections throughout. I took time apart from the essay in order to gather my thoughts and be able to look at it with fresh eyes. This method was especially helpful because it allowed me to organize the way I wanted and decide what should be taken out and left in. I believe the strongest part of my essay was the amount of detail I used in describing how to prepare, take and things to do after utilizing a shower. I ran into some problems with getting off topic but I tried to cope with it by reminding myself of the main point and taking small breaks in between writing. This proved to be very useful and allowed me to stay on topic and organize...

What I Learned in Writing 101

...Reflective Essay: What I Learned in Writing 101 Jason E. Mainor UMUC 02 March 2016 Reflective Essay: What I Learned in Writing 101 The fall of 2015 is when I first learned that I had to take Writing 101. I was pretty worried, throughout my time in school, I always struggled with my writing skills. Be that as it may, this class was exactly what I needed to build confidence in my writing. I have discovered many things during this class that I will carry with me while on my journey to obtaining a degree from UMUC. The three most important ones I will be taking away are the proper usage of verb tense throughout my essays, how to come up with and support my thesis, and finally being able to properly alter the tone of my paper effectively based on my audience. Growing up, grammar was never exactly my strongest forte. Throughout my time spent in school I always struggled with the basics of verbs and adjectives, sentence fragments and run-on sentences. Anything and everything with grammar was a hassle for me. For this reason, the fear of writing followed me into college. For example, while writing my initial essay I struggled from beginning to end to use the right verb tense. I was constantly going back and forth from past tense to present tense, and I never noticed it until the professor corrected me on it. Fortunately, when the time came around for my second essay, I was well aware of the issue and was able to use the proper verb tense. For example, I exchanged “am” for the...
