Cm107 Reflection

...Unit 9 Reflection Christy Gatlin CM107 Unit 9 Reflections For this assignment I have been instructed to reflect back to the unit two assignment and unit three journal entry. In the unit two assignment we were asked to discuss our goals for college composition 1. Looking back at the goals I set for myself I do believe that I have achieved my goals. My goals were to learn how to correctly write an introductory paragraph and a conclusion paragraph. This course has helped me reach those goals. Strategies I used to achieve those goals was doing research, using the reading material given to us through the Kaplan Library and studying. Without the reading material and the professor being so helpful I don’t think I could have achieved the goals I had set for myself. I am most proud of myself for learning how to write a thesis statement and why it is important. I never really knew how to start a paper correctly. Having an effective thesis in your introductory paragraph is very important. It can make your break paper. The thesis is a statement that tells what your paper is about and why. The project I just completed has taught me a lot. It has taught me to be more comfortable with my own writing skills. It has also taught me that I still need to work on citation and giving proper credit where it is due. I understand why we do citations but I just still need to work on it. I will have to use this in other classes for papers. I think now is a time to set another goal for myself...

Cm107 Class: Journal Entry

...Unit 9 Journal Entry This journal entry will complete the last of what I consider to be major assignments within the CM107 class. It has been a long and rewarding journey, that looking back went by very quickly. I am pleased that a chapter in my requirements is closing, and at the same time I am a bit sad that the class is over. Without further ado, it’s time to answer the requirements of this journal entry. The first question about what I see writing on the job is almost an unfair slow pitch over home plate. I say this because I am currently in my chosen career and I am already responsible for writing memorandums related to ladder company tactics, information technology systems, and personnel issues within the fire department. There are times these communications take the form of email, but typically, whether they are electronic or in...

...A New Kind of Office for the New Generation Jennifer Osborne Kaplan University A New Kind of Office for the New Generation For the longest time, office jobs consisted of the same old thing. Employees would get up, get ready, sit in traffic, go into work, punch in, and sit in their cubicle or office until the day ended and went home to get ready to start the process all over again. Now, things are starting to change the offices that we have been accustomed to. As technology grows and expands so does the environment in which we use it. In regards to technology and the office, the two have begun to merge to one. Companies, the existing and the future, are choosing a virtual based type of business. Most, if not all, of the company is controlled and operated through technology and the internet. Converting over has become the popular and innovative thing for business owners to do. Aside from not being able to walk into a building, from the customer’s viewpoint, it goes unnoticed whether a company is virtual or not. Virtual based companies have become more popular and show significant benefits that most find incomparable. Virtual companies reap benefits not seen by actual businesses. These companies save money that would normally spend on real estate, overhead, supplies, training, and other in-office necessities. Consumer fraud is one of the most lucrative scams around the world. According to the article titled, “Holding Financial Institutions Accountable for Fraud,” posted Courtesy of the Civil Divisions Consumer Protection Branch, fraudsters have devised a new way to part hard working people from their money. By using a middleman, considered a third party processer, fraudsters are able to drain someone’s account without arousing suspicion. Often times banking institutions have turned a blind eye to fraudulent activity even after activity has been reported. Banks have implemented policies and procedures that prevent some types of illegal activity but more has to be done to combat this growing problem. The Department of Justice’s Civil Divisions Consumer Protection Branch is implementing a kind of approach in the battle for consumer safety. “Operation Chokepoint” cuts off bank account access thus protecting the sensitive information from being used. Several well-known banks, such as Wells Fargo and Bank of America, have been caught off guard with these schemes. No institution is safe from being hacked using old methods...

Courage

...College Composition I – Unit 3 Project Essay Kristen De Bragga Kaplan University CM107 Courage is acting in the moment without thought or concern for your own well being while another is in danger. Roderick Joseph De Bragga showed courage when he selflessly gave his life without hesitation to save the life of his seven year old son who was drowning. Roderick “Roddy” De Bragga owned and ran a lobster boat out of Stonington Harbor in Connecticut. On July 4, 1974 Roddy took his two small children, Debra who was eleven years of age and “Little” Roddy who was seven years of age, with him in the morning to cast out a few lobster pots and also bring in some lobster for a family bbq planned for that afternoon. The children spent the morning writing numbers on the buoys attached to the pots while Roddy cast the pots into the water. As Roddy cast a pot into the water somehow the rope tangled around the ankle of his son. The rope pulled the boy into the water. Roddy jumped into the ocean to retrieve the boy. Debra frantically tried to contact her Uncle a short distance away for help by using the CB radio but was unsuccessful due to private marine crafts using the channels for personal use. Roddy was able to find and bring his son above water. They came to the surface once but the strong undercurrent that day dragged them back under. Both father and son lost their lives that day. Roderick’s actions that day epitomized courage in the way that he instantly jumped into the ocean after...

It’s a pocket computer that resembles a USB stick in size. They are hoping to jump into the market later this year but they are having problems with the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and will not be offered for sale until authorization is obtained which the company is not saying what the problem is yet. When the product gets released they will be in major completion with Google’s own Chromebit the Compute Stick though to be not as sleek-looking as Chromebit. The Compute Stick comes at a time when consumers re-evaluate what traditional means in the current time of mobility, where smartphones and tablets continue to gain functionality in the PC-on-a-stick market. The Compute Stick by Intel is going to have an Intel Atom processor with 2GB of RAM and will have to options of storage 32GB and 64 GB that Google’s Chromebit will have the same 2GB of RAM but only 16GB of storage. The cost is around $89.00 for Ubuntu Linux and the cost for Windows 8.1 is around $150.00 which is not really all that bad compared to a cheap laptop or a tablet. Raspberry Pi is another good competitor for Intel because this company offers a family of credit card-sized single-board computers that can run Windows or Linux for a much cheaper price...

The Most Courageous Woman

...The Most Courageous Woman! Lindsay Warren CM107: College Composition What is courage? You may ask what courage is. How do you define courage? How do you know what courage is? Well in my point of view I consider courage to be something that you have inside of you. Courage is not something that you can just buy off of eBay or catch like a cold. Courage is when you have ability to stand up to or against something or someone. Sometimes it can be as simple as having the courage to step up and ride that tall roller coaster at Six Flags that you have been dreading since you were 7 years old. I use to be scared to do a lot of things. I was scared to grow up; I was scared when it came to going to a new school. I soon got over it. I just realized it was easier to make the best out of every situation. I do believe that that is what every courageous person does. They suck it up and make the best out of every situation. During this time I am going to tell you what I think a courageous person is. During most of my life I got to know a very wonderful woman. She was my great grandmother. I called her Granny. She was not scared of anything. When she was diagnosed with cancer she did not get scared either. She was very much an independent woman who did not need help of any kind. When my Granny started getting sick for no apparent reason she was taken to see a specialist. After he ran some test on her it came back that she had cancer in her lungs. She simply...

...Goshen Medical Office Sherbreda Lofton Kaplan University CM107 Misty Thompson August 10, 2015 MEMO TO: Healthcare Representatives and Patients FROM: Sherbreda Lofton DATE: August 10, 2015 SUBJECT: Healthcare and Medical bills Healthcare is one of the top social and economic problems facing Americans today. The rising cost of medical care and health insurance is impacting the livelihood of many Americans in one way or another. The inability to pay for necessary medical care is no longer a problem affecting only the uninsured, but is increasingly becoming a problem for those with health insurance as well. The underinsured are those who have health insurance but still struggle to pay their healthcare bills. Many of them are faced with rising health care premiums, deductibles, and copayments, as well as limits on coverage for various services or other limits and excluded services that can increase out-of-pocket expenses. To consider an individual underinsured is a somewhat general concept which can vary depending on individual circumstances. The researchers at the Commonwealth Fund, however, define the underinsured as “people who spent 10 percent or more of their income on medical expenses (or 5 percent if they were low income), or people who had deductibles that equaled at least 5 percent of the family annual income.” As part of the study, researchers found that the underinsured behave a lot like the uninsured when...
