CNN or Fox 8 News?

CNN or Fox 8 News? The news is something that everyone can relate to and depend on in some sort of way. Everyone look to the news for current events, sport updates and scores, or even the weather, either locally or nationally. But unfortunately there are some people that just won’t watch the news. The news is said to be too depressing and sad. Then there are those that can’t go without the daily news. The news is a worldwide broadcasting information program that could be of either joyous or tragic events but most of the time it includes both. No matter what a person may turn to the news for, it is there to inform the viewers or listeners of current events. The perspective and viewpoints could easily altered if depending on the delivers of the stories. Rather the reporter is from a local surrounding or rather the story is being reported from a journalist from afar, the same story that is being reported will share similarities but it will also show differences. CNN, one of the most viewed and respected resources for worldwide news and information network, covers headline stories around the entire world. The network is available to over two billion people in more than 200 countries. It has approximately, four thousand employees worldwide within thirty-six bureaus. CNN’s coverage is carried by more than nine hundred affiliates. The station is known for inventing the twenty four hour news coverage every day of the year. Coverage can be easily accessed through television and internet, however the station have also made the network even more accessible while people are on the go. On the go accessibility includes applications through cellular phone devices, PDAs, and pagers. Not only does CNN provide breaking news coverage, but the shows also includes an array of different topics of interest. The topics include but are not limited to entertainment, sports, health and science, business, technology, weather and interviews from the experts on that particular subject that is up for discussion or debate. At all times, there is a team of at least four anchors that work diligently to interact and deliver news in a timely manner. There is also a segment that airs throughout the school year for ten minutes, Monday through Friday targeted towards the student body. WJW Fox 8 News, a Tribune Broadcasting station, one of the four local news channels in Cleveland, provides local news, sports, and weather for the Greater Cleveland area. The network covers the Cleveland and Akron areas. The station started off affiliated with two sister stations and only one news broadcasting. In 1994, the network increased the production to forty hours per week. However, in 1995 when the Oklahoma City bombing occurred the network was unable to switch to national network coverage due to not having any national news service. The station was only able to recap the tragic events. Since then, as of July 8, 2013, the station put more emphasis on local news castings, expanding the hours to five and a half hours a day. Fox was known for the morning traffic reports, in the fastest helicopter in the city. The station was the first to have high definition new in the local market. The current air staff consists four primary news anchors, fourteen field reporters. The coverage is also received in neighboring cities such as Toledo and Youngstown, Ohio and Erie, Pennsylvania. Coverage can be readily accessible during the scheduled air times, internet, and smart phone applications. The accessibility to the networks can vary but most of all the information in the information being reported can be very different. Both the local and national news networks report stories as they unfold. However the local journalists have a greater advantage than the national reporters when it comes to coverage of a story when it happens in their town. The local journalist typically knows someone or something that could have played a role in the series of events or inside information from a confidential, reliable source, where the national journalist/ networks must get to the scene and find credible witnesses and information from bystanders. Both must remain bias to the story and detach themselves and own opinions. Both local and national news sources share a common goal, which is to report the story from the beginning to the end. Depending on how important the particular story is to a person will determine the source that he or she relies upon, local or national.

Website Final Draft

...Tania Moshirian A10023469 USP 100 September 3rd, 2014 Website Final Draft The Collapse Detroit, Michigan: a city where more than 1.1 million people have vanished in the past 60 years. The city has dropped 25% in population just in the last 10 years. The city crumbled apart, which forced people to abandon their houses and businesses, leaving them with nothing. Even hospitals and religious structures were abandoned--and are still abandoned--with no demand to fill them. Ultimately, the auto industry was hit the hardest. With a systematic city, there was nowhere for the people to find jobs, since the auto industry was also hurting. More than 200,000 people worked in the auto industry in the mid-20th century.             Since the slow migration out of Detroit, the number fell to 100,000 people in the early 21st century. People have compared the migration out of Detroit to the whole city of San Francisco being deserted. More than 1.1 million people have left the city over the past decades. With economic downward spiral, Detroit hit its lowest point. With less than 750,000 people living in the city, it has been hard for local government to get money for the federal government for urban aid--leaving people still living in the city to suffer more. Detroit was named the poorest city in the nation, with one out of three people living below federal poverty.  (1) With so many people suffering, it led to many fires. Buildings and houses were burning rapidly. There were two...

...CNN News: The news of the great linebacker was Junior Seau was killed Wednesday by a gunshot wound to the chest. His family will let researchers study his brain for evidence of trauma. The chaplain of the San Diego Chargers Shawn Mitchell told Cnn News on Friday. Since the news have broken about Junior killing himself a lot of people think that all of the hits that he was taking over all of the years that he was playing football took a part in why he might have killed his self. The family made the choice to go through with this idea to help the NFL players and the other players in the future that are playing this sport. The corner said that it will be a while before the can complete the autopsy on the body. There two links that are included in the report. The one link is part of Cnn, talking about how a lot of players from that 1994 team started to lose their lives. It was 8 people from that team. The other link is connected to the San Diego new channel 10 about his that might have an connection to the NFL All three websites have some of the same things but some are every different. Media Bias Issues

...reporting of particular issues such as economic class or environmental interests. One high profile academic survey of American journalists is The Media Elite. The survey found that most journalists were liberal Democratic voters.[citation needed] Martin Harrison's TV News: Whose Bias? (1985) criticized the methodology of the Glasgow Media Group, arguing that the GMG identified bias selectively, via their own preconceptions about what phrases qualify as biased descriptions. For example, the GMG sees the word "idle" to describe striking workers as pejorative, despite the word being used by strikers themselves.[4] Herman and Chomsky (1988) proposed a propaganda model hypothesizing systematic biases of U.S. media from structural economic causes. They hypothesize media ownership by corporations, funding from advertising, the use of official sources, efforts to discredit independent media ("flak"), and "anti-communist" ideology as the filters that bias news in favor of U.S. corporate interests. Many of the positions in the preceding study are supported by a 2002 study by Jim A. Kuypers: Press Bias and Politics: How the Media Frame Controversial Issues. In this study of 116 mainstream US papers (including The New York Times, the Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, and the San Francisco Chronicle), Kuypers found that the mainstream print press in America operate within a narrow range of liberal beliefs. Those who expressed points of view further to the left were generally...

The 24 Hour News Cycle

...Fortunately, the 24-hour news cycle has made that reality implausible. Over the past 40 years, the emergence of major news networks such as CNN, Fox and MSNBC has allowed for a constant stream of information directly into people's homes. This media spike has allowed people all over the world to stay in touch with current events, but as seen in Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein, every new creation comes with consequences. Despite allowing people to stay connection with the world, the 24-hour news cycle has resulted in reports of insignificant news,...

Evaluating Media Coverage

...Evaluating Media Coverage My first online video story was on CNN and it covered the “Lockerbie Bomber Dies in Tripoli”. The length of this video was around 3:22 and I found this story playing on people’s emotions. What it showed (which was terrible) was a man convicted of bombing a airline flight back in 1988(Pan Am, flight 103), which killed all 270 people on board. The Lockerbie bomber was given 27 years but only served about eight years, because of prostate cancer. They interviewed the passengers family’s and they expressed how they thought about his early release. This was a good way to get an emotional response in the audience/public. However, they did bring up some interesting points like the fact that Libya threatened Britain in a statement that if the bomber died in a Scottish jail, there would be dire consequences. Of course, when asked about this, this was denied. People in Scotland were interviewed and many thought that he was being used as a “scapegoat” so to speak. Even the possibility that he may have even been a Libyan Intelligence Agent was mentioned but that was never proven, even in the trial. My second online news video was with Fox News about the continuing story about baby Lisa and the newest updates. It had the parents and their attorney at the news station being interviewed, as well as flash backs with the same reporter from the beginning. This interview lasted 10:27 which is quite a bit longer then the first video but then again, we are talking about...
